Repairing Gear Quesions

Do I need to be a blacksmith to repair my own gear? Or can I repair my leather gear as a leatherworker? So far I have the items needed to repair, but as a leatherworker it will not give me the option to repair. Please help!

You can do the repairs yourself, as long as you've got the appropriate main-hand tool and repair items.

NPCs can also repair your gear, but to a maximum of 50%, vice the 100% you can obtain through self-repair.

I was looking through FFXIVCore and the Wiki, I can't really find much on repairing armor or weapons. At least in the wiki you can search it and it will tell you what materials are needed to do the repair, but I think you just talk to the NPC, either ask them to repair the item or tell them you will repair it yourself... but I don't know anything more about that.
