Requesting positive/constructive input for gil-making

I'm like 0/20 on vclaw and 0/20 on serket ring.

=/

I used to have a whm friend who leveled alchemy while farming Castle Zvahl. The mid-level ahrimen (yes plural!) there can drop ahriman wings, as well as the tears and lenses which can be used for alchemy purposes. Although kills will be somewhat slow for you, this type of mob is usually not farmed by thfs too much because of their high resistance to sleep bolts/drain bolts.

Another thing is, sell intelligently. There are quite a few items that are worth next to nothing on AH but if you were to NPC them, would be worth a little more. It's not true for everything but you'd be surprised. When you go out for exp or something, try not to carry 2 jobs worth of gear on you. Make sure you have some spaces for loot to fall into. Then just sell everything you get. What isn't worth putting up on AH just npc. It's a little bit of difference, but over time, it's like throwing your extra change in a jar. It adds up.

Also, coming from someone who has the shittiest drop rate ever on bcnms, don't listen to the people who say don't bcnm. You can do some of them at every level with three people, and if someone can't find two more people for something like a bcnm, they have bigger issues than money problems. Even if you get a totally crap treasure pool, the 40-50k you might get from a crap run is stil 40-50k you didn't have to spend an hour farming. With KSNMs, get in with some people you trust and agree to split the larger gil items. I've walked away from situations like that with 500k when no really huge gil items dropped. If you get the seals, for sure use them. Just use them in addition to the other ways you make your gil.

I'm surprised no one has posted this yet, but here's a little secret. Fishing! You can get a cheap rod and insect paste on the cheap (or bring your cooking up to 29 to really make it cheap). You can fish in pretty much any town (I do Windy) and you can sell moat carps for about 4k/stack.

If your cooking is up to 29 (or at least able to craft 29 synth) it goes like this

~1k for earth crystals (ah)
NPC the rest:
~48 gil for a stack of worms
~144 gil for stack of distilled water
~600 gil for a stack of millicorn

and each successful synth yields a stack of insect paste, which roughly works out to be about 10 or so Moat Carps (junk or gold carps in Windy)

It takes time to do this, and might not be the highest gil/hour, but at least it makes you money.

Avatar fights it's where it's at. 60k a day if you do all, 15k bonus with FMFt fight. 75k daily if u have a good SMN Bounty Hunter static.

For me it's 50k daily because Leviathan spams Spring Water and it's very difficult to kill him fast solo and time runs out... ; ;

P.S.: Any negative comments/complaints/insults will be dealt with accordingly.

Dealt with, how?

Anyway, use your drg and sub whm or thf and head to Beadeaux and kill Old Quadavs for a couple hours to get their Quadav Helms, then go to Bastok when you have 40+ helms (you need to have pretty clear inventory.. stay until it's completely full) and trade the helms one a time (I usually make a macro for thise, /targetnpc; /item "Quadav Helm" <t>) to a Galka there for 900 gil each, or sometimes they will sell on the AH there for 1000 gil. People use them for smithing (desynth them into ingots) in Bastok.

It's not a lot of money, but it's definitely worth more than it was a few months ago. The path you need to take will take you past a few NM pops, too, so you might get lucky and grab one of those, as well.

Here's the path I used to always take. Old Quadavs should really be your only target. You can also try to kill Garnet Quadavs because they drop Mauls which sell to NPC for a couple thousand gil, I believe, but they are higher level and can link with the other higher level Quadav near them.

In regards to this post there is alot more money to be made here if you have 53+ Smithing

Beaduax is know for having Thunder weather quite regularly and where there is thunder there is Elementals. :P Kill the elementals and get lightning Clusters. Then use the clusters to make crystals.. then Murder Old Quadav and Garnet Quads to get Quadav Helms and Mauls.

Then desynth them.
Skill required (51)
Quadav Helms + Lighting Crystal =
nq= Bronze ingot ~500gil if lucky
hq1= Iron ingot ~2,400gil
hq2= Steel Ingot ~5,000gil
hq3= Darksteel ingot ~10,000

Skill required (46)
Maul + Lighting Crystal =
nq= 1 Oak Lumber = ~1,500gil
hq1= 1 Oak Lumber = ~1,500gil
hq2= 6 Mythril Nuggets ~6,000gil
hq3= 2 Mythril Ingots ~14,000gil

Big profits are rare unless your Smithing is very high, but taking that path mentioned in the previous post also means youll be atking NMs and With the high Frequency of lighting weather that will proably help bolster you success rate a little too.

Bring like 15-20 stacks of la theine cabbage and camp Habetrot for however long it takes is my suggestion. Easy gils, and if you have clothcrafting making twincoons into opaline stuff sells very nice. Or camp in Jugner and kill a mix of beetles and tigers. Easy drops, profit is decent if you stick to it long enough, and if you're lucky that NM beetle will pop and you'll get a nice Gaxe you can sell for anywhere b/w 50-100k (fluctuates a lot, I was fortunate to sell it at the higher end of the spectrum).

edit* only recommended this if you don't have any crafts lvled really.. it's a beginners beginner guide to making $ lol.

Man, I just decided to try soloing the BC20 as BST for the first time and that crap was super easy. I had 8 hi-pots ready and I didn't even use one. No astral but I got a thunder spirit pact which was worth the seals to me.

A farming spot that I always used to turn to when I TRULY got desperate is near the middle Horutoto tower in East Sarutabaruta. Your target would be all crawlers (silk thread) and all bees (beehive chips, maybe honey, if you want to sell in Sand'Oria), and if you sub thief, you can steal periodically from the mandragoras for the occasional Saruta Cotton. Silk threads and beehive chips don't sell for NEARLY as much as they used to, granted, but then again ... nothing does.

Just circle the tower, then head North and trace the river east ... then come back. The "bonus" to this area is that you're basically running through an NM's spawn area -- Spiny Spipi, a lottery pop from the crawlers. The cape it drops sold for 100k - 200k at one point, but you'd be lucky to get 30k for it now. Still, it's the best low-level mage cape there is, and it's just gravy on top of the silk, beehive chips, and cotton.

Keep in mind, this isn't the FASTEST thing you can do, but it's safe, easy, can be done with absolutely no preparation (on a level 15 job), and you're guaranteed at least SOMETHING -- this isn't the case when you're camping more "profitable" NMs, or BCNMs, where you'll often walk away with zilch to show for your hours of effort.

If that gets too mind-numbing for you, head over to Giddeus for a change of pace. The bees here drop chips more frequently, and the Yagudo drop their bead necklaces ... get your Norg fame up, if you haven't already ... that alone will net you a little profit on them. Otherwise, sell them individually for a quick profit, or desynth them with a lightning crystal for bronze ingots (which I always do).

You'll also want to trace another NM's spawn area while farming here, or at least peak in on it once in a while. Hoo Mjuu the Torrent drops the elusive Monster Signa, which sold for over one million gil at one point. Now, it's lucky to hit 100k, but it's still a very nice addition to your farming efforts. He spawns in the central part of the zone (you'll have to drop into one of the hidden holes within the caves to reach it), on an isolated overcrop. I can't remember the exact position, but it should be easy to find. You can't get to the Burning Circle area without passing it.

The above two areas were my big "newbie" methods for money, and I still fall back on them occasionally.

also oldton mova, is good gil and no one goes there to farm moblins, mainly mining.

I mine there a lot early Saturdays and Sundays. It's usually empty and once you get a map and get familiar with the area mining is that much easier. Map is not necessary really, though. Ores are usually junk, so toss them (unless it's like platinum or something). Moblin armor sells well and if you know a blacksmither, they can turn them into even more profitable items. Just head out there with 2-3 stacks of pickaxes and a close to empty inventory and go crazy. Remember to buy your pickaxes from Bastok NPC to save a little more and if you have field gear or if someone will lend you some it cuts down on breaks. I think you need to be level 60+ to not aggro stuff. There's also a Bugbear NM out there that drops some SAM JSE worth a little gil that I think you can solo. I never see anyone camping it when I run past the placeholders.

Giddeus reminded me . . . harvesting there is actually pretty good. I made a nice chunk of change while getting mugwort there for my cooking, just from selling all the other stuff I got. If I actually sold the mugwort too I'd have nearly doubled my income from harvesting. Plus the best part is, unlike mining etc., harvesting primarily gives stackable items so you can go a lot longer before filling up.

This is a wonderful idea, and if I have too little time in game to do anything, I'll buy stuff from the Auction House in Jeuno and sell it to the NPCs in Merry Minstrel's. If I see a stack of Colibri feathers for sale going for 1K a stack, I snatch them all up. IIRC, the NPC will buy them for 153 gil each, netting you just over 800 gil each stack.

Scrolls are the same way, often I'll buy a whole boat-load of scrolls and sell them to the NPC for a 50%-XXX% profit. Some of the scrolls are Rare, so you have to make numerous trips, but the walk is short. ;)

As with life, be a student of making money and you'll find a niche that suits you and your playing style well. Best of luck.

you can make decent money doing anything, just stop doing nothing and start doing something and eventually you'll get your stuff. the answers are all out in plain sight.

I like how QCDN will burn anyone who comes on asking "tell me ur gils secretzz" but will offer suggestions to those that are polite.

Makes me happy.

As what has been said before...I fished...

I fished

and fished some more...

but omg did it pay off...

I cleared out 80% of my inventory, fished till fatigue, then put up my carp in my bazaar and sat next to the lu shangs quest npcs.

let's just say I made about 200-300k a night maybe...but that was back in the day, and I was able to craft my own insect paste.

Wow... much more responses than I expected. I'm finally able to respond to these posts.
Lesse... to those who asked about my progress in-game:
- Levels: WHM70, DRG51, BLM38, SMN38, SAM37, WAR34, THF30, NIN25; all others below 15
- Windurst Rank 6-2; Zilart (too low); CoP (too low); ToAU (too low); Assault none
I've noticed a few interesting sells on the Jeuno AH, but I am a bit hesitant to put anything up on it due to the AH fee. The items I'm looking to sell are in the leathercraft, alchemy, and clothcraft skills. I've pondered selling them in the respective cities that have said crafting guilds, but I'm not sure if that would be the best course of action. I, as one person suggested, sell to NPCs if the AH price is lower or doesn't sell as well (i.e. Yagudo Feathers don't sell even remotely slowly).
Aside from farming... I unfortunately am one of those people who cannot sit in one place for too long; I prefer being on the move to keep myself awake. (Falling asleep while trying to craft at lower levels isn't good! Fun when a Lightning Crystal explodes in your face...)
I do not do nothing - I'm always doing something. Time is the biggest issue against me - I maybe am able to be around in Vana'Diel maybe once a week for perhaps four hours tops. Of course, that can vary depending on circumstances and work schedules. My apologies if my posts seem odd in nature, but given my time constraints, I can continue on my current path or ask for advice. And quite honestly, I don't like to ask for advice/assistance, but I would like to continue my adventures in Vana'Diel for as long as I can by asking for and utilizing advice from those who know what they are doing and do it well. I thank you all for your suggestions and recommendations. </bow> ^^;

I prefer being on the move to keep myself awake.

Then fishing may not be for you, I'd probably suggest farming crawlers for silk threads (BuBu Pen) that's some running around, pick up some air/water elementals.

Of course, since you're WHM there's always taxi-teles, which can be good business.

It's not what it used to be, but I made a lot of money pretty quickly harvesting in Bhaflau Thickets. Once you know the harvesting points and can get out there w/o a lot of competition, you'll rack in 50k-100k per session pretty easily. Mohbwa grass is 15k/stack, red moko grass is 25k/stack, fresh mugwort is 40-45k/stack, pedo hive chips are 15k/stack and all except the mugwort are incredibly common. I usually would grab a couple stacks of sickles, put on helm gear, and go nuts, tossing everything I didn't list.
