So i changed my reg files to make my game run in high resolution and wow its so pretty only problem is when I cast a spell thats kinda flashy and directly on me such as drain/aspir etc is when I get frame lag. So is this something a little bit more RAM can troubleshoot or is it a better video card needed?

768MB RAM
Nvidia Gforce2 MX/MX400

Ofcourse, stating how much RAM or what card you're running on would be tremendous info for anyone who'd like to determine which area needs improving.

A little bit of both in this case I think. I'd go to at least 1GB, 2GB recommended. Also, the videocard is severely outdated.

If you have to make a choice, get a new video card.

I'd say upgrading your video card would make the biggest difference at this point. I couldn't stand even playing the game on a Geforce 3 when my old Radeon 9700 broke.

Now I'm on a 6800GS I bought a couple years ago for $200 and run most games at 1680x1050 with no problems (Stalker makes me cry, though).

Depending on what type of slot you have is going to determine your card choices.

If you've got PCI Express and don't want to spend $200 on a new card, then you should consider the MSI NX8600 GT (Nvidia). It's directx 10 compliant, has 256 megs of ram, and is only $129 from Newegg.

If you're stuck with AGP, maybe try a 7600GS with 256mb of ram on it for around $104.

Your processor can also make a pretty big difference in this game, as well.

Def Vid card if you're using one that weak. Anything Radeon 9000+ or GeForce 6500+

If you've got PCI Express

And so that my own nubish mistake last time I bought a video card (or, as it turns out, two...) can serve as a warning to other nubs out there:

PCI Express is not the same thing as PCI.

Thank you for reading this public service announcement.

(Bit more on topic, I need a new one myself. I was broke at the time - and having to buy two cards instead of one didn't help much - so my second, working card was a dirt cheap Nvidia 5500. I do not recommend it. Avatars, telepoints, and any and all weather effects are murder. If you're gonna get a vid card, unless you're really broke and your current one totally doesn't work at all, save up a few hundred bucks and get a good one.)

nub question how do I tell/what the difference between PCI and AGP they just different slots depending on your motherboard or something?

ah ok gotcha thanks~
