If you read my previous post you'll know I was planning ( or at least considering) returning to the game; however, when I was trying to register with Playonline it doesn't accept my registration key. I've heard rumors of if absent for a year, the key deactivates permanently. Anyone know if this is true? Would I have to buy another copy of the game to continue? That'd be... lame.

Once you use up a registration key, it becomes invalid to use again. Just simply try logging in with your log-in ID and password. POL accounts stay around forever, and you get a one-time character restore. So if your character was deleted from account inactivity, talk to PlayOnline about it.
 
Actually, it's if you cancel your playonline account... and the timer is 3 months.

Note, though, that there is absolutely no reason at all to cancel the playonline account, so anyone who does is an idiot anyway.
 
I thought the 3 month timer was if you delete your person you have 3 months to have them recover it if you want it back. Or you want for the yearly offer to come back to the game and have your old account restored. I just remeber reading something about you have 3 months to restore this char if you delete them when I killed off one of my mules.
 
It's not if you delete the character. It's if you cancel your FFXI content ID, you have three months to reactivate the ID and have your character intact. Otherwise, you have to have them restore it.
 
lol, no. Canceling the content ID is the best way to make sure you can possibly come back later; characters cancelled that way remain a very long time (q year or more).

Deleting a character outright can only be recovered *once* per character, and is only *guaranteed* within the first three months. I've heard of characters being restored almost a year later but that's very rare. Sangroso couldn't restore his character when he came back after literally 3 months and 2 days, though... ouchies.

Closing a PlayOnline account has a 3 month hard timer, though... and after those 3 months, the reg code is disabled completely.

ok that was it the content ID warns you about 3 months to recover it before its gone for good
 
Thanks for the info all, I only remember canceling my Content ID's, not the playonline thing. I'll continue to look into it and probably end up calling the help line :/

If you didn't cancel your playonline account you should be able to log into it without any registration codes... just use your old account login and password.
