I've never seen a more desperate move by a corporation in order to regain lost members, execpt for that crazy AOL people who sent me a free year of membership to AOL for Broadband in a wooden cd case with a fake personalized letter to me from the "CEO" saying that they want me as a customer. That was just pathetic. I do hope this brings back some lost friends though, I'd like to see the trend to WoW reverse in flow.

I don't think this is desperate as it is taking advantage of the current situation. That AOL deal you were confronted with is different from what SE is doing. SE isn't begging people to come back, but they are realizing the faults of WoW and the already-dead EQ2 (neener neener!), and have probably realized that many former FFXI players might have nostalgia for their old days on this game (Like I did).
I think it's just a move for the money, as always.
I remember buying the game when it first came out.... After a couple months, I went on a trip down to Central America for a little over 3 months. I come back to
reactivate my account and am unable to. I call SE and am pisssed to find out that because that account had been unactive for over 3 months, it couldn't be reactivated....
Not only could I not get my char back, they said I'd have to buy a new fucking game if I wanted to play again...

A couple months later I got so bored of my other
games I broke down and boought another damn copy of the game.... I'm sure alot of ppl have done the same thing as well... I'm gonna call and tell them to give
me my damn $$$ back for the second copy i had to buy, as well as to everyone else who has bought this multiple times We'll call it "Return money to
screwed players Part 1" Anyways didn't want this to turn into a flame and tried to make it somewhat humorous so it doesn't. Anyways I ended up on a much better because of it anyways.
