Hello,

I took a very large break from FFXI (About 6 months+) now that all the things that made me take the needed break have nearly gone (College + Final major project) i want to return to the game again.

I have the game for both the PC and the 360, my PC copys account is the one i've been playing the longest and i have 4 content IDs and my Main Character is on it too. I have know doubt that its still there but i really want to put that account to rest and use my 360s account instead and start afresh.

I have a few questions that i need answering before I make the plunge and start a new character this coming week. Only a few basic questions,

* Is the game Noob friendly? (in terms of level) Or are the dunes still the hell hole they always were?

* Classes, I plan on making a Taru WHM to start the new character because i stayed clear of Caster type classes on Spriggan and im going for the complete opposite. My question is have the classes changed much?

* Also are there any classes in high demand? Im not looking for the easy root by rolling a class that people need, I'm just trying to get an understanding of balance.

* Auction house, I was told that RMT are still around but now the AH prices are stable, which is great news for a new player but how much of this is true?

PLD got a few more JAs to help them with tanking, and DRK got a few little new toys (Drain II, which steals MHP, and Dread Spikes, which drain HP when hit). Jobs are otherwise about the same.

Signet nows gives more bonuses than before, including no TP lost while resting, increased HP healed per tic, and an evasion bonus vs EM- mobs as well as a slight XP bonus. I'd say it may be wiser to skip partying in Dunes entirely, because yeah, it's still a hell hole there. =P
 
What happened to the old account? If you deleted your old account then you probably can just get SE to restore it or use the return to vanadiel program coming up soon. If you have any gil at all on the old account you are essentially rich now. 1 mil is the equivalent of about 10 mil in november as a guesstimate.
 
I suppose it is about as noob friendly as it has always been. But parties are rarer now due to less new people and players lvling new jobs (Most people have like half the jobs to 37). On the bright side like Mish said soloing is better now due to signet enhancements. I think you also get defence and acc boost while soloing.

Brightside is that pretty much every party up to late 30's is PLed now by either a seperate account or friend.

And WHM will always be needed :P
 
The dunes can still be pretty much a hell whole. With the new mobs to take out RMT fisher bots camping beaches can be alittle more exciting. Goblin Bounty Hunters nasty little bitches which move rather fast and aggro from miles away. I have however seen a few parties exp off them, they have lightning quick respawn rates.

Parties pre 37 are not that hard to find and as stated most are PLed, but being a WHM (due to the lack of low level healers) would get you a party very quick. As for low level parties I tend to get some awesome parties during JP prime, still quite a few of them willing to party about. Failing that try to make a static on here, I would assume some member would love to level a new job and avoid rubbish pick up dunes parties.

As for the Conquest/Signet mods its now easier to solo/duo anything up to Even Match mobs. Get a few boosts to eva and acc when fighting them, also with the added bonus of not loosing TP when resting (which is useful) Also with duo the exp is slightly boosted I believe there is a chart somewhere for it.

AH status according to FFXiah is showing that we are the second highest being (+0.449%) over the avarage price of items. So it depends on if you rate that as a good thing or not.

Prices for many things have been slashed down a lot, more than half or 3 times less than they were around last Christmas or so I believe, whenever the peak was, for most items.

I'm not sure about dunes really since I haven't exped a job there in about 6 months lol, but it's probably still hellish.

Jobs like whm, rdm, and brd are still in demand, but Blu is always one of those fun melee/caster jobs you can lvl.

If you're going as whm, they have gotten a bunch of new stuff too, especially towards the end with merits and stuff.

The game is still enjoyable though, and maybe someone here will run into your new char eventually to help you out a bit.
 
Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm very tempted to dust off my old account instead of starting new, But i gave away most of my items because i didnt know if i was to return after my long break.

When i last played i was loving BST, i was lvling at my own pace and if i were to start up my old account i think lvling that and WHM would be my choice.

Only question i can think of is; Does windower still work? about 6 months ago i remember windower was very buggy and in some cases that it stoped worjing altogether, is that still the case or is it totally baned by SE?

It works better than 6 months ago, however, SE will soon be releasing a legit windowable version of FFXI. Soon may be relative to the time FFXI has been without a windowed capability, but we can hope that it will be a good, clean, usable windower.

You'll find the game is nicer to lower levels than ever before.
