I started playing FFXI back when it first came out in the US and have taken a couple breaks from the game along the way. I thought I was over FFXI but all of a sudden I feel like playing it again. This of course depends on if SE will restore my characters from last May or so.

I don't have any more college classes save Intermediate Japanese and my Thesis (mostly done) but I still can't help thinking I'm making a mistake in coming back. Of course I don't even know whats been going on since I left.

Anyone feel like talking me out of it?

I was a level 72-73 WHM If I remeber correctly. God, I hate being indesisive.

I was in your situation a month ago. I quit FF a few weeks before last Thanksgiving (2004). I had an "urge" to come back and play a few weeks ago but I wasn't sure what I was going to do. So although I can give you advice, it ultimately is your choice on whether or not you come back. So let me ask you the same questions I asked myself.

1. Is my character still there? If not, do you really want to start all over again (especially with the insane economy).
2. What is your primary goal in the game? Do you want to do end-game stuff? Missions? Questing? Socializing? Level grinding? Ask yourself this and furthermore, ask yourself if you have the time to do the things you're interested in.
3. Is your old linkshell still around? Mine wasn't. I was all alone when I came back.
4. Do you know anyone in the game still that actually has time to do things with you? Many people I knew that were just getting to Zilart stuff when I quit are now in HNM linkshells, etc. They are still my friends, but it's not like we do anything together. People have different priorities than they used to.

Good luck and welcome back if you do decide to return.

Hey Chadd its Squee.. I went to DLI with your brother. Tell him to give me an email sometime at [email protected]

Anyway I also asked myself these same questions. I decided to come back and start all over ago. After 90 days of deleting your toons, they cannot be restored. However, if you just canceled the content ID but did not delete the toons, then just go back and re-activate your content IDs. Your toons might still be there.

Anyway best of luck to you. Tell your bro that I am chillin in Iraq. I think he got a strategic assignment and doesnt have to deploy, but I could be wrong.

I'm glad Faluzure came back :P it was fun to poke him when I would see him. And he's right. You have the choice and it is up to you ^^ Personally though.. if you have the chance to come back as your character.. you should for a month or so and just see if you enjoy it and then go from there.

Thanks El. It was a bit overwhelming at first. I was conflicted on whether or not I really wanted to play again. My first few days back, I dabbled with my old jobs and found out that I was *VERY* rusty. I thought to myself, "if I don't quit playing like a noob & have start having fun, I'm quitting again." BLM & SMN were the easiest to remember but when I tried out RDM, it took me a couple days to get used to it. Now that my "skills" are back, I had to tie up some loose ends I had before I quit. I've accomplished most of them and this time around, I'm playing at my own pace. Surprisingly, I'm actually happy with FF (instead of bored & frustrated).

I've lost quite a few friends (either they don't play or they don't really remember me), but those that do remember me (such as yourself) make it worthwhile to log into FF once more.

Hehe :P ya.. I'd say RDM is the hardest job to really get good at. It requires tons of attention towards the game XD And it's good you are back :P I forgot you got a Dalmatica before you left. That thing is pretty nice looking but with Nobles, Yingyang, and Sha'ir Manteel.. it's become fairly useless for most jobs XD RDM make nice use of it for curing and that's about it really.. BLM I guess could make use too for curing but I don't see why a BLM would use it much compared to their other bodies. Stupid SE... taking such a hard cool looking item to get in the game and making it fairly useless :|

Haha... funny story that Dalmatica... Only a few people know of it. ACtually, I didn't get a Dalmatica before I left. It was one loose end that I HAD to finish, just for the sake of finishing it. My old LS (now no longer an HNM LS) provided it to me a few months before I quit. Gil then was pretty hard to come by (still is to an extent these days). I had enough gil to buy 1 Behemoth Hide at the time and got it off the AH for 6 million. I gave it to a 100+3 Leathercrafter and he broke it. Ultimately discouraged... I went into a "hate FF" mode. Around that time Svina knew what happened and got people together to do a BCNM run so I could recoupe the lost gil. Well it ended up my drops were the luckiest of them all and I recovered 6 million gil. I was back to where I left off but was uncertain if I wanted to try again. I mean, if a 100+3 leathercrafter failed, he could fail again. Svina at the time was only 90 leathercraft. So I quit due to that as well as boredom. I mean... the now ever-famous LS Kaizen were still only doing Sky Gods then. They rarely went after any of the 3 land HNMs. I on the other hand, did those things for almost a year on a daily basis. I was there for nearly every Adamantoise/Aspidochelone/Fafnir/Nidhogg run for several months. I was capped at Promathia at the time so there really wasn't anything left for me to do. So you now know why I was bored out of my mind.

When I came back, the first thing I HAD to do was to get the Dalmatica. I don't really need it but it's something that I wanted for the longest time. Problem was that this time around, people rarely sold stuff on the AH anymore. They bazaar it up in Batallia. For over a week, I looked and tried to get one but I never found one. A friend who did sky offered me one for 6 million but I thought I could do better than that. Checking, I noticed they were going for 6.8 Mill on the AH (within a WEEK!) However, I could never catch one on the AH. Over the course of a few weeks, I then asked Kurei if he would sell me one and he told me 7.5. 7.5 was not something I wanted to pay since they were going for 6.8 on the AH. Eventually, someone sold one for 7.125 (I think). A friend of mine asked another friend if he would craft it into a leather for me. I offered to pay, he didn't accept. Very nice guy, I wish I knew his name. I do know he was Jonas' friend.

Then came the search to find a clothcrafter. Many people gave me names, but I didn't know anyone personally. I eventually relied on Akron since he sent me a /tell after finding out I needed one. Akron is a REALLY nice guy. He made my Macrame for me as well as the Dalmatica itself. I offered to pay him but he declined too. He got a 0.1 skillup off the Dalmatica and said that's all he needed.

You're right, the Dalmatica really is not that awesome anymore but it was a part of me that I needed to finish. It sure as hell beats the Vermillion Cloak though. You mention the Nobles as well as the Shai'r Manteel but I'm neither of those jobs (WHM or Bard). In addition, it's not something you can just outright buy of the AH like the Noble's or Manteel. It's something that can take as little as 1 HNM spawn or it could take months. So it's more of an accomplishment piece than anything really. The Yinyang is nice, but I"m not losing out on much. My SMN macros involve swapping the Austere Robe & the Dalmatica. I'm only losing -2 BP delay. If anything, it's that the Dalmatica is just hard to get (in general). I usually just swap between the Dalmatica, the Crimson Mail, and the AF on my redmage. So it all works out.

Heh, I've only been absent for a few months, and I feel like I'm so far outta the loophole I don't even know where to start...

And just so y'all know, I never really left, I've just been geeking out to Dragon Quest VIII and have been working mad overtime. My contract with SM Ljia is up in February, gotta pay the rent some how.

No no, it's not my thread. It's originally Chadd's. You're just as welcome here as anyone else is. As you can see, a lot of people miss you and that shows that you have people who are waiting for you to come back.

As for getting back into the groove of things. It takes time. It took me 1 week. It's like riding a bike.

This new board format has thrown me for a loop. Yeah, that's my excuse... ...right...

Yeah, I'm sure it'll all come back to me soon enough. Problem is, I play on the PS2 console, and I'm used to Dragon Quests' menu navigation... which is different from FFXI. I keep hitting the circle button and hoping for a menu to appear. XD

I'd probably better stick to a low level job and solo until I get the feel of it again. It would probably be safer.

Man it's nice to be back to the qcdn.

About character deletion... I think if you deleted your character, it may be a little difficult. If it was just the content ids, it may be alright. Porum just activated his content IDs and he cancelled them in June. The more, the merrier!!!

Its not the first time I've quit FFXI (3rd I think :/) so I just deleted the content ids. I am a bit worried about my LS being gone, last time I left and came back greencherry left to hades or something. Plus my other LS TeamBringIT merged with another LS (forgot name), then later changed name to Everyone's Grudge. Now Everyone's grude's message board is gone and I don't know were everyone went ;;

Nice to see some people had a good time coming back though. I think I got bored between the finding ways to earn gil/70k xp to next level/trying to find people to do end level stuff with.

Plus it was a headache using the JP client trying to keep up with what was going on. I did it mostly for the challege (and it was that couldn't tell if somebody was cursed or paralysed). managed to get from low 60s to low 70s using it though.

I might give it a try after the 10 day pass to WoW expires. Got it from my OTHER brother and doesn't seem all that exciting yet. Of course I'm a level 8 undead priest so how exciting is that anyways.

-> Squee
Regarding my brother, he lucked out and didn't have to go to Iraq. I think hes in Texas intercepting communications or something but I didn't hear that from him and you didn't hear that from me :| I don't talk to him much but i'll tell him you said hi. What level you up to now? And does Iraq suck like everyone says it does? :p

And then I look at IGE and see 20 bucks for 2000k..... and read a post saying quetz has the best economy -.- It used to take me half a week to earn that much in game. At least I still have 2 astrals on my char... I hope....

Chadd, Everyone's Grudge merged with Shadup Stupid. Warick and Darkchylde started their own HNM linkshell called Indulgance. Check Indulgencels.com and you will find some of us there. Good seeing you man ^^.
