Everyone knows how big of a Nintendo fan I am but I've been a little worried about the Revolution. Honestly I love some of the risks Nintendo takes, actually trying to improve the way we play games but sometimes they take it a little too far. With E3 hitting the scene next week the only thing I find myself even remotely exited to hear about is the new ICO and Zelda. I really don't care about the new systems. Maybe I just don't feel I've had long enough to get aquainted with my old ones before having more $400 purchases jammed down my throat.

Today was the first time I've read something that makes me smile. The article quoted below is up on IGN right now. It makes me smile to see that Nintendo is learning from some of it's past mistakes. I really don't care that my GCN doesn't play DVDs but after promoting Nintendo systems for the past 5 years I know the system got slammed and lost a lot of potential consumers based on that fact. I'm happy to see them go with the wireless I just hope they put out Recharge stations and it's nice to see them finally go backwards compatible, giving people who never picked up the GCN because it was too "kiddy" and apparently purple makes your dick shrink in size a chance to try some of the absolutely fantastic titles the system offers. Having the wireless system link up is going to be rad...we can have 4 peeps in my room playing a strat game as a team and 4 peeps in the living room downstairs on the other team all playing the same game with no wires....WOOT!

Anyway just thought I'd share :D

Pre-E3 2005: Breaking: Revolution Details
Sleek system to play standard DVDs, says Nintendo. More inside.
by Matt Casamassina

May 12, 2005 - The Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005 is still days away, but that hasn't stopped Microsoft from debuting its Xbox 360 console on MTV. And now Nintendo has followed suit, revealing some new, meaty details about its next-generation console, codenamed Revolution.

In a recent New York Times article, Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan describes the console as "very, very sleek." The system, which is reportedly tiny, will stand horizontally. Its width will reportedly be no more than three DVD cases stacked flatly on each other, or slightly more than an inch. That makes the console theoretically smaller than Apple's recently released Mac Mini computer.

Although Nintendo has historically selected proprietary media formats, such as the GameCube Optical Disc, for its platforms, the publisher is with Revolution opting for a more standardized medium. The new console will play standard DVD media, according to the company. Nintendo has not yet revealed if Revolution will as a result be able to play Hollywood movies on DVD, but that seems very likely at this point.

At the Game Developers' Conference in March, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that Revolution would offer Wi-Fi online connections out of the box and would be backward compatible with GameCube, or able to play GCN software.

According to recent information, Revolution will also be able to play high-definition games and regularly go online.

Finally -- something of a no-brainer given the popularity of the Wave Bird pads -- Revolution's still-secret controller will be completely wireless. Controllers for Microsoft's Xbox 360 are also wireless. Upon hearing this news, puppies everywhere let out a collective cry.

More details to come at E3 2005. Stay tuned.

About that purple thing, yeah...That's why I got mine in black.

I wish Nintendo could do something other than play catch-up nowadays.

For the record, my dick is at least half an inch longer since I got my purple gamecube and twice as hard.

Thanks, Samus.

Yeah...that totally made me smile too.

I love you Carth

I'm from the old guard that remembers when the Nintendo name was synonymous with video gaming. We were'nt skipping 5-8th period to play video games, we were skipping to "play Nintendo"

Nintendo will always have a place for me in one way or another in gaming.
Granted, in recent years they have shunned the industry trends due to IMHO,
arrogance, however, I do believe them to be on track for the future, and I'll never count them out ^^

The specs on the new machine are impressive indeed, and I look forward to forgoing food to be able to buy all 3 of the next gen systems

No fair, I love him more!

I think the specs WOULD have been impressive in, say, 2002. But seeing what 360 is and what Sony is planning, this just looks like what the Gamecube SHOULD have been to be competitive.

As it stands right now, I'll probably be waiting in line at midnight to get a 360, and I'll wait for Revolution to drop to $100 or less before I consider it. I think this is Nintendo's baby steps towards rectifying the major mistakes they've made with the 64, Cube and DS, but it's going to take a lot more than DVD support and wireless controllers to swing back the mass market.

Well I've heard a few whispers that Revolution's going to have a free version of what I like to call "Revolution Live" (ie xbox live for the revolution) where you can have an inbox, look up ppl online, download extra content, etc. Granted they still have catching up to do but that's a step in the right direction, assuming it pans out to be true, though we should know that on Tuesday at the latest when Nintendo gives their big E3 press-conference.

So they're giving us Xbox Live Silver?

Sabia wouldn’t it be in Nintendo’s best interest to give you, a console for free since you are promoting there product?

If they do, I'd better get one too.

I'm pumped about E3 too! Everything I see and hear about the new consoles makes me happy, but also sad to big farewell to my old consoles.

I've heard that all the systems are using wireless controllers, but the only one I have yet to read actual confirmation on is the PS3, and hopefully that will happen at E3. I hate wires...

-Ham

All of this sounds great. I really like their WiFi plans for the Revolution and DS. I know this will probably be the first of the three I buy, with PS3 coming in second, and Xbox 360 in last. I'm still anxious, yet nervous to find out if all of the rumors about the controllers that have been going around are true, and if there are even untold things about the controllers. I heard a rumor that they aren't even going to show them at E3 because they're afraid the other companies will steal them. Guess there's only a few more days to find out for sure.

I've always been a consumer whore when it comes to buying systems. Usually I buy all three. I bought my Gamecube right after the released information about the remake of Resident Evil & the highly anticipated (and delievers on all angles) Resident Evil 4.

I've heard that Nintendo was afraid that it wouldn't get a whole lot of 3rd party support because Revolution is .. such a revolution that people won't take to it quickly.

I'm not sure where I heard/read that, but hopefully we get a Zelda game that'll keep us busy, busy, busy for a few months. ^____^

& Sabs, how did you land your job? I wanna promote company products. ; -;
