Nintendo announced at the GDC that they're also going have have downloadable Genesis and TurboGrafx games as part of their virtual console, which already had the NES, SNES, and 64 announced. This is very surprising not only from Nintendo, but Sega and Hudson as well. Nintendo says over 1000 Genesis titles will be available on their service.

Oh my. Talk about a severe pull for thier system. I'm sure this'll sway many Sega fans towards purchasing it.

And in all honesty, I myself am a Sega fan. Despite Dreamcasts severe underappreciated outlook. I'm glad they've dropped out of making Consoles. They've been a game developer first and foremost.

Altered Beast!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, possibility of downloading Shining Force and Phantasy Star games? Oo

<3 Sega. This interests me :D

Ever since SNES the titels on Nintendo no hanheld platforms have gone downhill you could count the number of good games for N64 on 1 hand 2 if you really wnated to push it. The Game cube isn't much diffrent, and since zelda was pushed back it's little more than paper wieght. Nintendo's consoles should just go the way of Sega.

D= that's freakin sick.. makes me want rev even more.

Thats pretty sweet. Not to much of a Sega fan but hey, SOunds sweet to me. I love what nin is doing with the rev. Now if only all my fantasys will come true.

.......... come on let there be Breath of Fire, Illusion of Gaia, and dragon warrior (all the old school ones).

Isn't it 1st party games they're doing downloadable games with? And Nin didn't work on any of those. Last I read it was only first party, but it'd be cool for 3rd party games too.

They already have a massive amount of 3rd party games from Sega and Hudson now... I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they managed to get several - maybe not all, but several - third party games from older systems to show up.

Yes, but that's a different console(s) than Nintendo ones altogether. Last I read about old downloadable Nintendo console games, it would be first party games only, but that'd be great if it changed, but Nintendo would have to pay the companies for them. Maybe after Revolution releases and nintendo sees how well downloadable games do, they'll go after 3rd party titles. But I'm probably wrong and they already have 3rd parties other than Sega/Hudson, just haven't announced any already.

edit:: pointed out grammer errors of Yoshindor's, I was quickly told english wasn't his first langauge, so I removed that part, sorry, I didn't know.

Incase your wondering why Nintendo is still in business, it's because of three reasons. One, They have been able to produce all their systems with either a profit or no net loss. To my knowledge, No other video game company has had the right to boast that, and Microsoft hasn't made any real money off of the Xbox yet. Secondly, Nintendo makes Genre's, might sound wierd, but they invented or contributed greatly to a lot of the Genre's we know today. From what I can tell Mario 64 is the first 3D Platformer. Now they're pretty common. And it's a lot cheaper to make new genre's then to make a game to be the best in the current ones. And the Third reason, is that most games that is a Nintendo exclusive end up being really good, especially if they are made by Nintendo or one of their associates. (Even Pokemon is a good game if you can forget about the anime.)

The reason why the N64 didn't have many good games was because it was expensive to make cartridges, that was a big mistake on Nintendo's Management, 3rd party developer's would rather use CDs and save some money. And the Gamecube has quite a few good games, but most of them are just small titles that never got the proper advertisement they deserved. As well as the fact PS2 has the image of the "Cool" system, and Xbox held the "Mature" Audience, both of which Nintendo under it's current management couldn't hope to compete in.

Nintendo has always been the system children can be safe to play on, which was fine when most gamers were children, and Nintendo is now under new management. Now, from what I've seen, the new Management wants to change the image from children only to Fun for everyone, and giving the old school gamers as many of their favorite classics as possible is a good way to start.

Give me an unchanged version of Columns and I could die happy. That's one of my favorite Genesis games of all time, the type of puzzle game where I could zen out and lose myself for a few hours. They remade it a few years back for the GBA and it sucked in comparison.

Also remember, while Nintendo may have seen much better days here in the states, they're still pretty much large and in charge in Japan. It really helps that Microsoft is virtually no competition for either them or Sony, and the PSP has been a consumer failure since it's launch, finally getting great games on it, such as Daxter.

That set back by Sony has really caused Nintendo to hold thier iron grip on the handheld market in both countries, which is more than enough for Nintendo obviously.

well whats really cool is you can do this already if you want!
since xbox 360 came out i havent much use for my original xbox, so i softmodded it for oh, like 6 dollars total cost to do the work myself and its EXTREMLY easy.

This then lets you play ANY system on it just about, Excluding PS2 and Dreamcast.

But i have every Nintendo, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, Genesis, N64, PS1 game u can possibly think of on my xbox hard drive. I own pretty much almost all of the originals, or have in the past too but this is a much nicer way to play.
not to mention the 1000 other features this opens to your xbox, it becomes basically a PC!
you can stream movies off your computers hard drive through your xbox.

Just something those with xbox 1 might wanna think about if they get a 360, it brings new life to the old system and makes it more playable. 1000's of old school games ^^

it's okay

Second Systems like the Virtual Boy (SP?) I don't even think they broke even on those. Maybe I'm wrong but seems to me like your saying nintendo has never flopped a console, N64 and Virtual Boy (SP?) are prime examples. Sorry Game cube isn't much better the number of game I actually want /need to play number maybe 20 and thats stretching it. They do have a hardcore commited fan base and I'm one of them but that only lasts soo long after a couple of flops ya know.

What?? Nintendo has tons of great games. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean that everyone else hates them. N64 had some of the most revolutionary games ever. Mario64, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Zelda, Star Fox 64, PilotWings 64 are just a few. As for fighting games you had Street Fighter, Killer Instinct Gold, Clay Fighter, Ready to Rumble. Racing you had Mario Kart, Micro Machines, Hydro Thunder, Top Gear. Shadow Gate and Quest were cool RPGs, and they had a crap load of good sports games.
Plus how can you say no to a company that brought us the U-Force and the Power Glove? No the N64 didn't flop. You just missed the boat.

Street Fighter an RPG? XD well I guess technically every game is an RPG (mario, goldeneye, etc).. but ya.. I'm not a huge fan of most Nintendo games (as most are just spin-offs of Zelda, Mario, or Metroid) but I am interested in those sega games :P <3 Sega

It's like Sega channel all over again. Only took Nintendo 10 years to learn from what Sega did right in the beginning.
