In addition to this, theyre proposing banning the 10/22 rimfire rifle and the M1 Garand. The fucking M1! Ridiculous. Maybe im the only one pissed about this, but my friend -just- picked up a Yugo SKS and I was gonna get one myself. Now its gonna be banned? The Saiga I can understand because it looks like an AK without the pistol grip; but the Yugo? Mother fucker is almost as old as the M44. Disgusting. I hate congress.

Um having a gun doesn't make you cool nor are they any fun ok? Find a better hobby.

..Uh, who said it makes you cool? This bill is banning practically any semi-automatic capable rifle save the Mini-30, which is a piece of shit to begin with. There are guns in the world, my friend, and they can be purchased. I dont know if you understand that or not, but its just like buying a knife. Or a tv. Or a car. Theres a process, theres forms, you have to register the gun. No, guns do not make a person cool, and I dont think I ever stated that anywhere in the post.

I have, however, had much fun with guns when used in a responsible manner. Such as, going to a rifle range and firing my gun at a target and paying money to do this. How is that a bad hobby, praytell? What am I doing wrong? I paid for my gun. I paid for my ammunition. The government knows I have my gun. It's completely legal. How is owning a gun and shooting it at the appropriate locations any different from collecting stamps, or listening to music? I just happen to like shooting more than I like stamps. My apologies if that offends you.

Seeing as this is not the flameboard, and it is a message for those of us who do enjoy discharging firearms within our legal rights, i'll stop this banter for the time being. Point of the matter is, if youre a responsible gun owner, then nothing bad can happen with a gun. It takes a finger to manipulate the trigger.. It takes thought and brain power to drop the slide and chamber a round. You dont think they just go around and let everyone who wants one own a gun legally, do you?

Doesn't matter how responsible you are, soon as you feel the need to use it on another human being is when the problem arises. See if you don't have a gun, then petty criminals (you know the soloist renegades who break into houses or jump you on the street) won't need to spend the money on their own guns, which decreases the homicide rate.

If that human being is threatening my life with the pain of death, am I wrong for defending myself?

I would rather take my chances fighting against someone who doesn't have a gun then fighting someone who does.

Much more risk of death in a gunfight then a knife fight or a fist fight for that matter. What gun owners don't seem to understand is the evolution of criminals. Petty criminals didn't start packing heat until society started being gun lovers themselves.

In the most extreme case, if it became affordable and people started defending their homes with robots that fire automatic rifles and shit don't you think criminals would also evolve to defeat them by using night vision, plastic explosives and splinter cell type shit. And how pissed will they then me when they finally get to your room.

You can't win, you can only minimize the chance of death.

I understand all that, and you'd go to prison for manslaughter, or even murder if you kill an unarmed person with a firearm. I'd never use my weapon against someone who was unarmed, it wouldnt be a fair fight and its difficult to beat someone to death. You dont always get to pick your battles. Seeing as how it is illegal to carry a loaded weapon on my person in my state, or even carry an unloaded weapon with bullets in one pocket and a magazine in the other, I dont typically take my gun places with me. I will sometimes throw it in the trunk for those 'just in case' situations, rare though they may be. I typically keep my gun in my house, where I have easy access to it should the need arise. I also worked at a gun store for several months and got my Handgun Safety Inspector Certification and my California Guncard, which both show my ability to handle a gun safely.

There are some bad seeds out there, likely those with illegal guns, who sully the name of responsible gun owners. Rest assured, my last desire is to shoot any other living person with my gun.

Deci, you talk like these acts are gonna stop the wrong sort of people from accessing weapons or something. Criminals will continue to get there weapons. All it will do is stop those who would responsibly use them like Veovis stated.

But if no one can own them, then should they ever be found, the person possesing it will be charged.

And owning a gun for self defence is a retarded idea. If your house gets busted into, just run out the back door or do what the guy says. You're much MORE likely to be injured/killed if you resist, because 9/10 times, the person busting down your door already has the gun out, thus has the advantage.

Really? Indiana law says we can carry guns out in the open wherever we want as long as we have a permit (granted it would be EXTREAMLY dumb to do this depending where you are like my neighborhood or church)

My brother has like 3 guns, we have 2 rifles. My brother has like 2 pistols and 1 m4. However my brother feels he needs to bring a gun EVERYWHERE he goes cause hes going to get attacked..for some reason. I think it's really dumb but whatever he's so close minded and never listens to anyone cause he's ignorant.

Deci if you think guns are bad, then your kinda being dumb. Guns can be bad, if the person is using them for the wrong things like killing people, but Veovis only uses them to target practice, which isn't really bad unless..hes training to kill people o.o (which i know you arent im just kidding)

Honostly I don't like guns myself, I think they have only made us paranoid to where we are expecting people to attack us. I live in an area where we don't really have problems (well at least my general township), my brother thinks other wise but whatever. I don't like guns, I have them, but I wish we didn't. I think we are better off without them but eh whatever I don't care if anyone has them.

i do believe this is the worst arguement i've ever seen put forth. the vast majority of gun crimes are committed with firearms that are obtained illegally, guess what, gun laws don't stop that from happening. It'd be a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling if it did, but sorry buddy, doesn't work that way. And really what's the base of this arguement? "If i leave myself unprotected then somebody that wants to hurt me/take my shit won't use a gun" ??? um...are we living in the same world? This isn't the wild west where you can't shoot an unarmed man. The fact is that criminals *have* guns, they will always *have* guns, and no matter how many gun laws are put in place they will still have them. The problem is that the people they will target won't, makes things nice and fair doesn't it? it's called a trump card, just cause another person doesn't have what i've got doesn't mean i'm not gonna use what i've got to insure i get what i want. And if you want some sort of historical reference here ya go. WWII. "Japan doesn't have atomic bombs? so what, we do, we wanna win, USE EM!!!"

There are studies, government studies as a matter of fact (sry i don't have the URL handy, i'll have to dig it up) that prove that in areas where decent, honest people own guns, and petty criminals know they own guns, there's less crime.

There's studies that showed that allowing concealed weapon licenses actually decrease crime, so people walking around with the guns actually decreases the crime, let alone owning it.

As far as "if no one has guns, then the criminals won't use them," England has a fair amount of gun crime, despite having a nation-wide ban on guns. Hell, Switzerland actually REQUIRES citizens to have a rifle in their house and they have the least gun related crimes of anywhere. The reasoning is that they actually educate people on gun safety and their citizens join the military. The biggest problem with guns, is untrained, uneducated people with guns. Ban stupid people from getting them, sure, but not everyone.

Unless you have constant "random gun checks" it wouldn't be difficult to own a gun and get away with it in places where it's illegal.

They could also just as easily shoot you for running away. Unless you're a moron storing it in a difficult to reach area, you'd have your gun drawn too, so there is no advantage.

guy busts your door in, and you're in your lay-z-boy with a plate of food on your lap. He beat you.

And people busting into your house, 95% of the time, they dont know you're there at the time. They just want a TV. They're not gonna gun you down, because they know that they'll try THAT much harder to find a muder/assault suspect than a burgler. The average criminal isnt out to kill people, and if they are, you're probably screwed anyways.

Uh, Criminals will always use a gun if they can, legally obtained or otherwise. It's an intimidation factor. Regardless if they know the person they're targeting has one or not.

They don't use their guns to protect themselves incase their target has a gun. They use them to instill fear in their victim so that they can get what they want.

Ah, I was going off someone breaking into your house in the middle of the night, not during the day.

Yeah, I don't know how a burglar could be stupid enough to break in to a house in broad daylight. Or if the lights in the house/TV are on. Lights and Sound are generally a good prevention to having your house broken in to.

Jingle Bells at the windows and trip-wire hanging paint cans in your stairwells are good for after it's broken in to, however.

Ah, I was going off someone breaking into your house in the middle of the night, not during the day.

Most break-ins happen during the day. In fact, on the rare occurance that they do happen at night, 80% of the time the suspect is known to the victims, and enters undetected. At that point, if thier goal is to hurt you, you're fucked because you're asleep.

We're talking about break ins when you're actually around to defend your property. Not break ins that happen while you're at work. Arguing guns is worthless when it's a one-sided burglary.

Unless in Canada thieves usually break in while you're eating lunch in your dining room, in which case, thats not how it works everywhere else.
