Right-to-ride

The lengths some people will go through to get out of a $300 ticket.

That is just silly. What's worse is it's a masked agenda. They don't care at all about actually driving in the car pool lane. They just want ammunition to use in anti abortion legislation....or maybe I'm giving them to much credit.

Pregnant women need to get over themselves. Congratulations, you're pregnant. That doesn't mean you get any more rights than normal people.

Where I think this is completly ridicolous and feel like the OP, I wouldnt go quite so far as to say that Eulore. When a woman is pregnet its harder than any man could ever dream to imagine. What my wife is going through right now is the most challenging thing in her life.

While she's pregnet, she's still holding down her job and going to college. She gets her associate's degree this week.

Some of these women deserve ALOT of props. But this whole car-pool crap is just ignorant and stupid. It defies the purpose of the car-pool. The car-pool lane was made to promote car-pool'ing, in order to reduce the number of cars on the road. You car-pool when someone who could have driven their own car is riding with you. This in turn leads to less traffic and less car pollution.

The reason we have car pool lanes is to promote people....all togather now CAR POOLING. Technically it is suppossed to give people incentive to car pool to work as oppossed to everyone taking their own vehicles. They do this to try to decrease traffic, and polution. Not so some pregno can get up to the ice cream parlor to try out all 32 flavors.

(I have a daughter, and understand it isn't easy being pregnant. That is completely irrelevant to the issue at hand.)

Now, before I get into this let me give a brief background on where I'm coming from. I'm against abortion. I'm a woman with 2 kids, so I know how rough pregnancy can be at times.

Despite all that, I still think the right-to-ride campaign is a crock of shit. It's a flagrant abuse of the carpool lane priveledge, and (as Rones stated) an underhanded shady attempt to create legal precedent for anti-abortion laws. The abortion issue is throny enough, we don't need people trying to drag other stuff into it to prove a point.

There is no reason for a pregnant woman to be in the carpool lane if it's only herself and her unborn in the car. If they want to push for special priveledges for pregnant women, it should be for the right to park in handicapped spaces instead of this stupid carpool bullshit. Now THAT I would support . . . I can't even count the number of times during the last month of my pregnancies that I found myself in tears at the prospect of having to walk across an entire parking lot with my hip popping out of its socket at every other step.

I'm not a fan of abortion at all....
Regarding that website though...carpooling is meant for people who are otherwise headed to the same place, to save both gas and reduce pollution. If you're pregnant or have a siamese twin or a split personality, it's not exactly the other's choice to go anywhere else, so logically the arguement to carpool is absolute crap.

That whole thing's just an attempt to get freebies out of their child. Before they're even born. Really good start there, mom.

im gonna use a split personality argument the next time i get pulled over on a HOV lane violation. Also even if this law or whatever they are asking for did pass (heaven forbid). How is it supposed to be enforced. Atm the way u get pulled over on a violation is the cop counts heads as you drive by. Unless u have a big advertisment on your car saying your pregnant. This will in most cases only make that persons commute longer and cause the tax payers more money in court fees and police salarys. Think about how pissed this person would be if they were having twins and had to pay for 3 seats on an airplane or if they were alone in a coupe car and got a ticket for having 3 people in the car.

IMO Rones hit the nail on the head... again.

Even if this does pass, what will stop a woman from stuffing a pillow under her shirt or something. I know its not as simple as that, but pretty much this can and will be abused by random asshats. A cop very well cant check if a woman is pregnant without compromising her personal rights, and such.

Whats next? A man claiming his semen is firtile thus he can make babies, thus he has like 40 billion babies in him right now? This kinda crap has to stop.

Actually there's a supermarket near me that has parking spots for pregnant women...

That i can dig ... swollen feet, fucked up back, take two steps and vomit ... sure park next to the door.

Looking to beat rush hour because you got knocked up? fuck off.

On the whole difficult pregnancy thing from a male perspective... I'm an at home dad ... which i count myself lucky on but ... While i would agree that it certainly is a difficult thing physically in my experience it's even more of a reason for my woman to act like a complete mental case at my expense. Nevermind the fact that while she goes back to work afterwards (due to a decision she made about me being the at home dad) i'm stuck doing everything around the house and keeping up with the child (soon to be children) .. i get no 15 minute break .. ever .. in short while i would definately agree it's difficult i have little sympathy for it based on my personal experiences thusfar. There's alot more to it but it'd be a derail and a half ..

RAWR.... some days ... sorry, had to rant.. it's easier than a 4hr bitching session at home ;)

Most supermarkets in the Boston area that have parking lots, and I'm guessing other major metro areas are similar, all have the same kind of reserved parking spaces for expectant mothers. It's a nice move, I think.

Some states allow alternative fuel vehicles with one person riding inside to use the HOV lane, too. Massachusetts is apparently waiting on some sort of federal action before allowing it.

I didn't even think of that, but its quite humerous. They can have the carpool lane...when they start paying twice for everything: plane tickets, movie tickets, amusement park tickets, etc. If they want to claim a pregnent women is 2+ people, then they have to take the bad with the good.

If that meant condoms and birth control ended up in the mail for free like a sample of tide i'd be all for it.

I've only seen 2 places with reserved parking for pregnant women and/or families with infants. One is at Babies R Us (and it's always full). The other is at the Ukrops grocery where I shop, and 90% of the time the 2 spots they give are full as well. I've never seen another grocer in any of the 3 states I've lived in do this. Also, since it's really just "suggested" and not truly enforceable there's nothing to stop that asshole with the Mazda Miata coupe who wants a convenient spot. (If I didn't have my kids with me and needed to set a good example that prick would have been keyed by now.)

But back to the real topic, carpool lanes are designed to encourage a reduction in vehicle emissions. Pregnant women using them defeats the purpose. Not to mention unless a woman is willing to give an officer a urine sample on the spot, there's no way to actually prove you're pregnant instead of just really fat. >_>
