This is more of a rant than informaional, atleast on my part. But please feel free to take comparisons a step further. ^^;

I was in an EXP party earlier today (well when today was Wed. Sep 20th). I was in an odd odd set up, but it worked out ok (THF, THF, NIN, WHM, BLM, BRD... below I'll explain how it kinda worked out XD). Anyhow, so we're EXPing and a kinda slow rate, having no consistant DD. We were doing maybe 3k~3.4k/hr. When a party which was essentially assumed to be all "Gilsellers" popped more or less ontop of us and started to EXP on their own. Now, this is in Garliage down the hole on the left for bats/beetles below. So, they start up, almost literally camping ontop of us (normal "gilseller" behavior). They're doing beetles and we're focused on bats. Ordinarily as we were the only two PTs, this prolly wouldn't have been an issue (except they wouldn't have camped -right- on us). And even after a battle or so they kinda nudged over. Well, about this time, after the usual */s 'go away', 'this is our camp', '{Camp} {mine}', '<t> {over there} {camp}'* (I'll save you from more... there were a lot over the entire duration), my fellow party members decided to mess around with them. Pulling mobs on top of them, sitting/standing on them when they had their monster pulled, etc.

Now, I have no love for RMT in any way. But in doing this, our EXP dropped from 3.4K max to about a 2.8k max. I just don't get it. There were still more or less just as many mobs. we were pulling as many bats/beetles as before and the RMT was getting a decent share. Both parties could have coexisted with no issues except maybe one or two out-claiming each other situations. And had this PT not acted like an RMT PT I bet my PT wouldn't have thought this a worthwhile thing to do with their time. Question I ask you all, is, really and trully... is harrasing RMT worth wasting the time to accomplish nothing more than to show that you're just a butt-head, worth losing out on EXP that they weren't directly causing to happen?

My party was built mainly of mediocre-average players (all more or less ranks 9+... which surpised me). None of them was exceptional at performing or gear. I know this sounds conceited, but I consider myself a reasonably good player (based on the opinions of what others tell me). I'm not excellent or even a "top notch" player, but not average. And I clearly see that this whole situation was a waste of time. for one, the RMT weren't going to move/leave... they didn't even acknowledge my fellow PT members until near the end of their stay, in which they then returned the favor of sitting on us and doing exactly the childish things my PT had done to them, effectiving wasting more time as it cause a few SATA attempts (which are complicated without a second voke) to go haywire. it wasn't too big of a deal, as my PT was certainly competent enough to manage it... but oh the time it could have saved..

So, am I alone?! Am I the only one who, while I don't look the other way, I simply just don't let it take over my time in this game... to go out of my way on someone I know doesn't give a flying-pig what I/we think of them. Well, that's my stance, so please help me feel that I'm not the only one. XD

Also, if you have discussions on how they XP vs how we XP, that could be an interesting derailment of this post. ^^; but I tried to make the title fit for it.

When I'm leading a party, safety and exp gain are my highest priorities. If someone or a party comes in and takes either of those away and won't leave, I go somewhere else. I don't care who they are, what they sell, or whatever. I'm there to gain exp and see no point in defying someone else making it suck for everyone.

I think any time someone becomes so fixated on someone that they are willing to sacrifice actually enjoying themselves in the game to go out of their way to make that person miserable, yes, they're crossing a line.

That said, I also feel this from the bottom of my heart. Most of the veteran players who have been around a long while come across any number of people whom they don't care for, but whom they respect. They may think the person is a total prick as far as personality, but recognize that they are good at their jobs and competent, respectable players. The problem with Gilsellers is that they are pond scum. They are beneath pond scum. They aren't playing this game for enjoyment. They're playing the game because it's a job. They don't care what's leet. They don't care about fairness, courtesy and respect for other players. They don't give two hoots whether anyone likes them or not. They get paid whether or not they spend 95% of the time dead or dying.

I think this is what gets people so fixated and perhaps misguidedly focused on screwing with RMT. A lot of people hate them. Why? Because they shit on the principles that a lot of the decent, quality players out there abide by in game. Small courtesies like not parking your ass in the middle of someone else's camp and starting to exp. Or not using hax to get claims, jack your advantages, or cheat in any number of other ways. Or not selling pop items for god fights that should be earned, not purchased.

So no, I absolutely don't think you're the only one who feels it shouldn't take over your gaming experience as a whole. But as someone who enjoys seeing RMT laying there dead and leaving them that way, or giving it right back to them when they pull their camping on top of others crap, I can say that sometimes, turnabout is fair play. I find that with the friends I'm usually with, we don't screw with them 'til they screw with us, and even then, it's for our temporary amusement and then back to business. And wow, it can be amusing.

*EDIT* Forgot to add my favorite RMT thought: Every time a gilseller dies, an angel gets its wings. It's evil. I know. I try to be ashamed, but it makes me smile too damned much.

Since MPK went away I really don't bother to try and screw with RMT anymore. When a situation like this arises, usually the best thing you can do is to show exactally why we (the standard issue player) are better at the functions of the game than they are and simply out-pull them, out-kill them, and out-perform them. Ironic that every camp in the game if another standard player party were to show up this is what would be done. Your party would have gone all-out pullers and voked/shadowbound/stun/dia/whatever's fastest pulled in an attempt to drive the other group out.

Fact is that RMT aren't very good at exp type dynamics. It really should have been academic for you guys to raze that zone to the ground, and leave no xp monsters, even with your weird setup. Isn't that what makes us better players than them? The ability to adapt to something odd, and make it work. RMT excell at botting, hacking, claiming, and zerging, not at group fluidity and teamwork.

I would have simply turned up my partys rate of performance. I know we've all seen it, you take a crew of average players, put them under duress, and after about 2-3 pulls, the new rapid pace becomes second nature. Hell, the current style of non-stop pulling isn't exactally new, and it can be done with damn near any setup, especially when dealing with shadow whore jobs. Increase your rate of pulls, let the RMT get angry and move along, or watch them start pulling shit 2 x 2 then drop a well-timed dia on their add, and laugh as they wipe^^

I was missing the papyrus for my G1 quest and knew I'd be needing it soon, so a couple high level players offered assistance in fighting the lichs for me and getting one, for which I was grateful. About 15 minutes into it, we uncover a RMT alliance camping lichs and getting a little XP while they're at it.

Instead of moving on and finding other lichs, my helpers decided to start harassing this alliance with /slap emotes and pranks at the switches to lock them out from the hallways. This went on for awhile, eventually resulting in us getting locked out ourselves and subsequently lost for the next half hour trying to find our way back. Finally, I had to Warp back and logoff to sleep, with no papyrus drop to show for it. I wasn't too particularly pleased.

RMTs may not be nice, but two wrongs don't make a right. If you make it your mission to harass them, make sure you're not becoming the very people you despised.

I studied two years of Chinese and have been there for a total of six months. I talk with gilsellers a lot -- they're always fascinated to talk to a Chinese speaking American. The reason they don't really care for decency is that they have almost no interaction in the game with other players. They don't understand what you're saying, they don't even understand anything the NPCs are saying. Despite what you think they are real ppl and they do get lonely, so it helps to have someone to talk to and humanize the game (for them) a bit. Otherwise they feel its just a job and have no problem sitting on top of you and stealing your shit. Just you ask them (in Chinese) nicely, they will pretty much do anything ;)

How do we know that doesn't really mean 'I am going to punch you in the ovaries?"

Its not just that they're there that bothers me, its more so that they have a PL or two, and the puller goes out and pulls about 2 min before the mob dies. So this means noone else in the area can get another mob to fight, thus "derailing" legit players from having fun doing what they do best. Its at the point where theres 2-3 RMT pts in one area, and when you try to exp there, there's no way. Now if the RMT were to pt in altepa where theres vast amounts of space, it wouldnt make me that mad. Garlaige just isnt made for so many RMT in one area >.>. Im against gilselling and gilbuying, but this hardly has anything to do with them just being RMT. They harm everyone else's gameplay by their actions. They don't play legit, and they don't go through the game knowing what to do.
I actually took part in laughing at a RMT pt when i saw a Fallen Evacuee rape their pt when their mages and tanks just stood there waiting for everyone to die. Their whm did reraise and got back up, and cured one of the others, and then got smacked again lol.
