Take a wild guess...................................

.......Ranger

yeh i thought it would be, just i been told it is and it isnt

Supposedly RNG get a widescan upgrade every 15 lvls, while BST gets it every 20.

I've read that both BST and RNG get upgrades every 20 levels, but it looks something like this (smallest to largest)...

BST1
BST21
BST41 = RNG1
BST61 = RNG21
RNG41
RNG61

Flymop - I have a bst27 and rng40. I got the rng first and got used to that scan range. Once I unlocked bst, I was very suprised to see that around level 12, you still can't widescan past the length of your arm.

In certain situations, (early early on, I'd bst/rng so I can get a wider view)
later, I had to /whm as most bsts do and forfeit the use of widescan. At 27, bst is still crappy in the widescan area and I just don't use it much at all. You can find most mobs you need by sight anyhow.

Sorry that I am not all "Numbers this and numbers that" kind of response. I don't care what level what happens. I'm just giving you a first hand response of someone who experienced both. Numbers mean shit to me in this case. When I flick-on the Widescan, the VISUAL results mean more to me.

hope that helps!

to sum it: BST (don't rely on scan unless you need to see 2 feet away from you) /rng in non XP cases only if you really really need the scanner.

shakaar, I'm not picking on you. I just need this as an example.

flymop, this is why I don't get hung up on numbers. Level this level that.
The best case example here is if Shakaar's statement is true. From level 1 on both jobs, widescan update or no, from level 1 you can tell the range is very different.

I challenge anyone who fits the following criteria to do this:

criteria:
have neither bst nor rng unlocked

to do this:
unlock both (Extremely easy) and at level 1, grab a screenshot of your
scan as a beast and as a ranger in a mob-poplulated noob zone.
(east saratabaruta sp? for example)

You just basicly said What I said.

The only reasons you don't statenumbers and facts is because you don't know shit, Duffman.

To put it in lamen terms, A rng and bst lvl there widescan at the same time intervals. However the rng starts off at a much larger widescan from the beginning. I havent really lvl'd bst that much so I dont have a complete first hand experience on it. Mostly going off other testimonies

I thought my post summed it up pretty nicely. I'm lvl 36 bst and my WS is still smaller than rng lvl 1 was. Now at rng lvl 22 my WS is even bigger. But whatever, sorry if it was too "technical".

Alright everyone thank you very much :D i didnt mean this to turn int any FUs or anything else i woulda posted it in the flame section

As a 52 Ranger I can see almost the entire King Ranperre's Tomb zone. In Boyadha Tree, I can see from the main room to about the area when Robber Crabs start popping up. Its fricking huge. Also Aquarius if you care. Hope that helps a bit.

If I remember correctly (and I probably don't), my BST widescan became equal to a lvl 1 RNG widescan when I hit lvl 20. I remember there being a BST faq on Allakhazam that had all the exact numbers and such. Basically all you need to know is that BST widescan is almost useless before it hits the first upgrade. It doesn't show anything that isn't within visual range to begin with.

EDIT: Found this:

LVL 1-19 : Exactly 1 Grid-Square
LVL 20-39 : Exactly 2x2 Grid-Squares
---- I'm 23 right now so i can only assume the following ---
LVL 40-59 : 3x3 Grid Squares
LVL 60+ : 4x4 Grid Squares (wow)

A lvl 1 RNG Widescan is 2x2 Grid-Squares and grows every 15 levels, and opposed to every 20 for BST

Yep that sounds about right. 8) And wow indeed for lvl 60 BST widescan range. Whenever I use it in a mob-heavy area I cringe. XD I don't even want to think about the range a 75 RNG would have (entire map?)

Yeah, but you said it like an asshole. I think he wanted a little more than
"Take a guess."

With an answer like yours, it sounds like you don't know shit either.
