After switching from Telus ADSL to Shaw cable, we have been experiencing a number of problems.

Occasionally images on webpages will not appear until refreshing the browser multiple times.

Occasionally webpages themselves will not load, 404 error or the page cannot be displayed errors. This happens on a large number of sites and isn't unique to certain webpages. Sometimes they can be displayed, a minute later they won't.

In FFXI, the search function and AH browsing loads at a crawling pace. Often taking a solid 30-60 seconds to /sea in the area I'm in, or any other aspect of searching. Often while browsing the AH, it can take the same amount of time to view a list of items like Head armor. Sometimes it will display half the contents of a list, continuing to show only half when I attempt time and time again to view the list.

Also, there has been a very noticeable 2-3 second lag between actions. Like casting a spell, I will attempt to cast from the menu or a macro and it takes 2-3 seconds to perform it.

I'm not sure at all what kind of issue is causing this. If it may be a firewall issue, the new ISP or the modem and router they supplied us with. Tomorrow I'll call the ISP but it'd be great if I could get some insight before that.

I changed the router to an older one I had laying around earlier today with no changes that I could notice.

Router model: Linksys (Cisco) WRT 160N V2

Switched to Router model: D-Link DIR-615

Modem model: Motorola SB5102

Try and see if this helps a bit:

Could be several things wrong. Sounds like you weren't having these problems before w/ your DSL connection?

Could be your building/house infrastructure or installation. Could possibly be the ISP. I remember when I switched from DSL to cable.

It took like 30 minutes for the tech to get a signal from the ISP. He said it was most likely the ISP. It's always the ISP lol. Sometimes it takes a while for me to get a connection and I have to reboot modem (very annoying/time consuming). Think it's happened 3 times in the past year I've had it. I've never had any of these problems with my old DSL connection. Was pretty solid except for one day when SBC was experiencing major problems lol.

I don't think it's your firewall since you're getting some sort of connection. I don't think there's much you can do till the tech comes and tests it out. Could possibly leech off of a neighbors connection in the mean time if possible? >_>

Hope everything works out~

I never had any problems like this with DSL. I should also note there are two other computers, three including my own, sharing the same router. Someone mentioned it may be a bottleneck problem and I believe I found the problem lol. I think it's due to peak hours, streaming radio and whatever my brother or parents are doing. Yesterday was a prime example of this, my brother was downloading and streaming videos while I was on FFXI, surfing the web and streaming radio. Really wish I kept that in mind before making the switch, with cable it seems like I have to deal with peak times and sharing the connection.
