RPGs deserving the title Final Fantasy.

What other RPG (or RPG series) do you guys consider as good as FF or other Square*-made RPGs? For me, it's a short list:

Skies of Arcadia
Breath of Fire
Xenosaga
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Wild Arms
 
i hated xenosage, slow ass battles and loong as cussceanes, im notinto star wars at all. Kingdom hearts should have been FF11 or 12, with Disnay making "guest apperiances"

Dragon Warrior 4 is better than any previous FF title. =D The Final Fantasy series beats out the Dragon Warrior series but DW4 is perfection.

Is that why it's still like a billion dollars on ebay?

Never been a DW fan. You know, graphics don't have to be Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow level for an RPG to be good (or even FF7 level) but don't make it so I want to gouge my goddamn eyes out.

All this young kids with their fancy "graphics"! =P lol. Nothing wrong with a pixelated character that marches in place even when standing still. I mean this game had branching story archs that culminated in the 5th chapter, a casino(only way you could get several unique items), like 10 playable characters, silver slimes and babbles!!!!!11!!1! Seriously though, this was back in '92 and for that time those features along with the different character classes and unique attacks were pretty advanced plus add in the fact that I was like 11 or 12 and you can see why I love it to this day. If I had never played that videogame and someone recommended it to me now I probably couldn't get into the graphics and lack of attack animations.

Oh and the major reason it sales for so much is that it is a quality game plus it was a pretty small scale release. There weren't many copies in the stores. I had to buy mine used from a video rental store that just happened to have it. Don't know what I did with it though... I play this game on an emulator now.
 
Well, technical abilities and such dont really mean much to me graphics wise - as somebody on the Penny Arcade forums wrote quite a while ago:
"I don't judge artwork based on the quality of the paints." I just didn't like the graphical style of the game when I played it.

Hell, I still think FF1 has great graphics and music. ^_^

Its not what they have, it's what they do with it.
 
Dynasty Warriors 4(REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY BIG FUN)
Super Smash Bros. Melee(still really fun to play with friends)
Morrowind 3(pretty fun still)
Fable(havent played it, but i can tell this game will be a great game)
and i bet there is more...just cant think of them...
 
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Only RPG I know with a level limit set to 9999!

...Save for LaPucelle Tactics and soon Phantom Brave, all games made by Nippon Ichi. But Disgaea really takes the cake! =^-^=

Damn straight, I love their games, I got so many hours in Disgaea its not even funny, still need to beat the Uber Prinny. Can't wait till Phantom Brave comes out.
 
Well, the only other RPG I really play besides the FFs is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Nearly the perfection of the RPG in my eyes. Good story, lots of freedom, cool characters, and of course anything to do with Star Wars is boss.

I also include Diablo II in RPGs. I know all you do is click a button thousands of times, but I really do like fighting demons with a simple Barbarian. Cool equipment and gameplay, although not too strategic. ^^
 
Skies of Arcadia.... Easily as good or better if anything. I got addicted to that game and didn't put it down. I played the first three hours, took a break, then ended up playing 24 hours straight.... it was crazy.

That's one of the only games I could think of at this time...hmm..... Phantasy STAR!....well, I loved two.

Otherwise I can't remember if Square is not included, but I still have to say ChronoTrigger and Secret of mana.....Love those games. If square not allowed, then the above two. :)
 
I'm well aware of that, but the title of this thread isn't "RPGs deserving the developer Square" it's called "RPGs deserving the title Final Fantasy." I believe Mario RPG is one of square's masterpieces.

The origional poster then goes on to list games/series that were not square related. (With the exception of Breath of Fire part 1, which Capcom developed, but Square put their name on to help sell the game. They may also have aided in developement, im not entirely sure).

Also Mario RPG was a Square/Nintendo joint project so I think it applies

Besides Xenogears is also a square game
 
Super Mario RPG was completely made by Square. They used the big N's characters, and that is the only reason the Nintendo Logo is anywhere in it. :)
