In short, there is no length of time that will so spoil the lack of bonds between you and your choco. My proof of this?

On my main character, Veovis, I began raising a chocobo. My egg hatched, and one day later, my card ran out of money. Being the lazy bastard I am, I neglected to refill the account for a good...46 days. When I returned, I checked my chocobo, and lo and behold, he went from being a chick to a young adult to a fully matured adult and he loved me. And I watched the lengthy cutscenes of 46 days worth of "Day Care".

So dont worry too much about the choco. The gardening will be screwed...but...eh. You can regrow! Unless it was ores. Then i'm sorry.
