The russian newspaper pravda printed the following article

American capitalism gone with a whimper?

27.04.2009

Source: Pravda.Ru http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/columnists/27-04-2009/107459-ameri...

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was.

But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives.

They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonald's burger or a Burger King burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blindeth the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top

protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another.

Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world.

If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison.

Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the sher volumes. Should we congratulate them?

These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointeespicked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another.

They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament) . Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters.

Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company.

That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.

So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies.

I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.

Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "freeman" whimper.

So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses?

The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.
The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is.

The world will only snicker.

Some interesting points, but also some misinformed ones too.

which are misinformed?

  • Only fired the CEO after the government became the majority stock holder
  • GM isn't a private company, but a publicly traded one (unless I'm mistaken in how those things are classified)

Obama has stated multiple times that he does not want to be in charge of GM, or any automotive company, but that if they didn't step in, more jobs would be lost than are already going to be.

I'm just staggered at the irony of Pravda printing this, all things considered.

It's pretty funny, actually.

It was printed in a Russian newspaper and the use of the word private was opposed to government run. As for the second part.. i think you are naive.

Yea i thought that irony was pretty good as well seeing as it was once described as the heart of the communist party in russia

He's naive? Why? Because he might believe something that didn't come from the desk of ron Paul ... or Russia?

How come I never see you post good news? Have you ever taken a look at the bright side of life?

This is what the elementary school bully looks like 20 years later, when everyone else has outgrown him and all he can do is gripe and remember the "good ole days." Seriously, how long has it been since Russia was any kind of player on the global stage? Lucki was right, GM was a publicly traded company. They had 2 options, either fold and drive the economy into the crapper with them, or take gov't bailout funds with strings attached. They chose the only option that made sense.

I agree that our youth is dumbed down to political concerns. At the risk of sounding my age, kids today do care more for pop culture than what's going on in society, but that's a hard problem to fix. Right now the economy takes proirity.

When Russia can do more than supply the world with quality caviar and vodka, then we need to take these kinds of political commentaries seriously.

Irony aside, the funny part is that article has little relevance to truth (which was most of the irony for me), is yet more posturing by what is a heavily state-influenced media outlet for a state that is desperate to be significant again, and that anyone would be naive enough to actually take anything printed in PRAVDA (online) at face value.

In short, the article is BS with an agenda.

I think that he is naive because the people on the far left are licking their lips affirming what i seem to think which is that the president wants to control every aspect of the economy i mean why else would he even consider that he has the right to fire the CEO of the company.

Also the far worse... happened we bailed them out to prevent bankruptcy and they went bankrupt anyways.. what a well spent 20 mil plus another 30 mil coming soon. We got the worst of both options we paid for it and then they went bankrupt anyways.

Why dont i post good news? Name one thing that i would consider good news since the year like 2000. Other than perhaps Lehman being allowed to fail.. lol

every article has bias i realize that... but this one is the first one in a long time that i have read that explains it much the way that i feel about the situation.

The government has the right to set any conditions they want on a bail out package.

As far as I'm concerned, we shouldn't be issuing the bloody things, but since we are, if the government told GM that they wanted every executive to paint themselves blue and run 15 laps around every GM plant starkers in order to receive government aid, then the government can do that.

It's not as though they just walked in the door and said "Yo, Wagoner, pack your shit". They attached his dismissal as a prerequisite, and frankly given the way the company has basically been run into the ground by the executive culture in the US auto industry, I don't blame them for that.

I often suspect that the reason the government has had a more hands-off approach with the banking industry is due in part to the fact that the government, primarily in Clinton's administration, but with policies that continued until quite recently, bears a significant fraction of the responsibility for the whole situation to begin with.

Encouraging banks to take on risky loans so that poor people can afford houses might get you elected to another term, but eventually the fact that you're giving out loans to people who can't afford them will come home to bite you on the ass, especially if the banks try to take further advantage of the situation by offering those sorts of loans to people who are simply too stupid to realize that they can't afford their current lifestyle. Which is more or less what has been happening lately.

To be fair Sharpe, we are taking steps towards socialism, and socialism to the Russians is Marxism. We just don't have the class differences that existed in late 19th century Russia. But then nobody does except maybe Africa, and that's a whole different story.

You are nowhere near Socialism, you're taking steps towards being less centre-right (although it could be argued America was slightly more right wing than that). The Russians were never really Marxist anyway. America never will be Marxist or Socialist because too many Americans seem to think the USSR was actually Socialist.

You are entirely correct on socialism viewpoint. As an American, we view the salary caps and tax breaks as socialist. From a European standpoint, we are far from socialism.

As far as America never being totally socialist, I don't buy the argument that we're afraid of becoming like communist Russia. America was founded as a capitalist country, and that's what we're holding on to. There have been some changes of course, we've seen monopolies and depressions that have made us rethink some laissez faire policies. But overall I think that we still believe capitalism is the best economic system. That's not going to change any time soon, but not because of a stigma relating socialism to commie Russia. It's more along the lines of "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Russia was never communist though. Maybe for a few months under Lenin but I'd argue that wasn't true socialism let alone communism.

You could, and I often do, argue that "If it aint broke don't fix it", if what has happened lately isn't "broke" then I don't know what is. We've also had a huge scandal lately about our MP's claiming thousands of pounds "expenses" which they weren't actually allowed to claim. No chance at getting rid of them till the next election, which Brown seems to be conveniently putting off till the last minute.

Don't mind me I'm just sick of Thatcherites ruling my country :D

I don't know enough about Russia's economic history to debate that. But I do know that there will never be a political/economic system without corruption.

I agree that the system is flawed, and now is the time to tweak it. I'm in the minority here in the cultural/political/economic conservative south. I feel like we do need some government influence in the economic sector. The good thing about the system we share in common is that it can change. While it may take 4 years or 6 years, you can vote out the people in charge and put in people that will fix a problem. However, we are shifting to an economic climate that is far more global than it has been in the past. Once we get over this pretty big hurdle then we'll have fixed some glaring problems that have finally come to a head. Namely trade deficits and dependancy on foreign labor. You guys across the pond know better than most where that gets you.

Yea... because Gordon Brown is doing such a good job with your country right now... tanking your currency and selling you out to the EU... but i digress. Aren't you the one who used to have a signature that stated you were a member of the socialist party. If that is the case of course it is not socialist because it is not exactly how you think it should be. The same as i believe that the US has never been truly free market capitalist and instead have adopted a bastardized form that we call free market. Whats funny is that one of the strongest voices in your country for the reforms that you seem to want is actually a conservative Daniel Hannan... lol. He has openly asked for legislation to make it possible for people to be recalled as well as more regulations on how mps can spend money.

True socialism has never existed i agree... but we are taking breathtaking strides in the marxist direction. My whole political philosophy comes from the idea that no matter who is in charge there are going to be problems (i'm not that unrealistic). So instead of having the government cause the problems lets let the people who are effected by the problems create them so they only have themselves to blame and the government makes sure we don't kill each other.

Government only does things that private entities can not do.
Police, Military, judicial and hell these can even be contracted to private companies as long as there is oversight.

If you know I'm a Socialist surely you would know I hate everything Brown is doing, althought your comment about the pound tanking isn't very current as it's been rising on the dollar a lot lately, especially with my Thatcherite comment. Hannan is a typical Tory and is just following his leader David Cameron's rhetoric at the moment. Let's not forget though that Cameron and the Tories assisted Brown in 2007 in blocking MP's expenses being made public. The strongest voices have been the trade unions and people like Tony Benn. We on the left have been campaigning for the ability to recall MP's and tighter regulations on MPs expenses for years.

Honestly i don't pretend to know how your political system worked in fact i had to look it up to realize that Tory was just another term for a member of the conservative party but... i really like the way that Hannan speaks and this video is what i was referring to when i said he was a strong proponent of the regulations that you actually seek.

Also just because the US dollar is tanking faster does not mean that your currency is not tanking as well...

Also it was my understanding that Gordon Brown was the leader of the Labour party which is basically your socialist party. Now i understand if he is in the party that you are a member of but you disagree with his policies because that is something different but with my limited knowledge of British politics i cannot think of anything that Brown has done that is Thatcherite in nature.

Also specifically what do you dislike about Thatcher because i have always kinda liked what she did... but then again i believe in smaller government... lol
