Donnie Darko Sequel Starts Filming May 18

Screen Daily reports that UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus will be launching sales in Cannes for S. Darko, billed as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. Fox has already taken North American rights for the $10 million-budgeted film.

Chris Fisher, who previously made Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, will direct.

Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow, Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2 the Streets) and Justin Chatwin (Dragonball).

The story picks up seven years after the first film when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage.

The project starts shooting May 18.

Richard kelly has nothing to do with it? then i dont want to see it even more than i wouldnt if he was directing it.
I wish hollywood would stop trying to cash in on the good stuff and ruin what made it good in the first place.

well.. i agree with miro. it'll be interesting to see. however i also agree with chasym: i'm not expecting to like it too much. HOWEVER i find that i am more open to things than most people... much like keylons mouth apparently <_<;;;
xD i just mean that i don't find things as terribly fail as most ppl. i actually liked Star Wars Episode 1. then again, i think it's because i don't look at it as having to be on par with the original 3 (which are perfect, and amazing, and OMG O_O [bows down in worship]) i mean, hell, i like High School Musical for cryin out loud. but i didn't go into it expecting it to be all the media cracked it up to be.
IMHO: go into every movie as a stand alone thing. don't set your standards so high that it won't live up to them because You yourself would have had to direct it :/ look it as somebody else's work, and respect their effort, even if it's not your cup of tea, ne?
