First of all, yes she did have permission. Just because they didn't show it in the footage doesn't mean it didn't happen. You can't take a baby from its mother without that mom giving you permission; can you say momma bear?

Second, you're obviously skewed by the over-sexualization of the female breast inherent in American culture. Yes, she "just" had a baby (a year ago). Yes, her breasts are producing milk, and feeding a baby is what they're supposed to do. The concept that utilizing the female breast for its intended purpose is somehow wrong or dirty boggles my mind. People seem to forget that those things they see bouncing all over the TV are mammary glands just like every other mammal has. There's no sexual component to breastfeeding, anyone who's actually done it will tell you that. Putting your "titties" in a baby's mouth as nature intended doesn't make you a "nasty ho".

Finally, this sort of thing happens all the time in areas where breastfeeding is the only feeding option for babies. If a mother of a baby in an impoverished area of the world needs to feed her baby, she's not going to run to the 7-11 and pick up a tub of Enfamil. She's going to breastfeed. If that mother becomes ill, or needs to leave her baby with someone else for any other reason, she's not going to pack a bag of bottles; that baby is still going to be breastfed, only by one of the other women who are also breastfeeding their child. Even assuming they get a well-meaning donation of infant formula from some food donation service, what are they going to mix it with? Cholera-infested river water? And what happens if the formula runs out? Now your baby is hungry, but you have no breast milk because you were using formula and so your milk dried up.

Breast isn't merely best in Sierra Leone, it's the only thing that keeps those babies from starving to death. For you to think that it's preferable for Salma to stand aside and let that 1 week old baby go hungry is fucked in the head.
