Salvage - overview, strategy and information.

I don't know if it 's been mentionned already or if people are already aware of it but I found this while reading on Salvage:

Note: If a Ranger or Beastmaster is present, it is possible for him to determine exactly which enemies will drop cells, and which will drop nothing.
Upon entering the zone, the first 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 13th, and 14th of each enemy (Puk, Ziz, Bull Bugard, and Vagrant Lindwurm) listed on Widescan will drop cells, and the others will drop nothing.

Taken from: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Zhayolm_Remnants/Boss_Walkthrough which is some walkthrough for boss runs in Zhayolm. Maybe that can help in saving time.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. But that's not always correct, as if you pull the first one, the second one will become the first one on the list. So basically, the orded you need to pull is 1, 1, 3, 3, 5, 5, 7, 7, 9, 9.

Either that, or you could .dat edit the mobs and change their names to something unique. Like Pu0, Pu1, Pu2... P10, P11, P12 etc.

Since stuff links anyway, it's not necessarely a gain of time. Moreover the first floor mobs are quite easy to kill compared to say biffron.

Nice to see someone not just talking out thier ass but actually putting time and effort into something. GJ Uzor ^^

Your shell appears to have good leadership and an excellent strategy, lol you are making me want to try salvage again :p

I would like to add, that the "Kill the gears without them using Restoration" is, in fact, false for popping the third floor rampart. We tried it, and no rampart popped, even with Wide Scan. So the question remains, how exactly do you pop it?

Uzor, you forgot to mention that Powderkeg Yanadahn drops Lv 35 morrigan legs (macha slop).

I wasn't reading through the whole thing but from what i can tell all classes except whm bard mnk and pup are useless in Salavage? that sucks. If not then how are they useful?.And what to monks have that others don't?.Just wondering cuz i'm making a salvage group soon

Very broad assumption for a very complex battle area. Every job has its usefulness. Mnk and Pups excel in salvage mainly early, because no one can equip weapons (any job with H2H skill will work, but those 2 are the top). Other jobs become useful once more cells are obtained to unlock restrictions. As far as Whm and Brd, all support finds some kind of use. Any DD job are useful. Tbh, I can't think of a completely useless job.

To be successfull in salvage you NEED H2H jobs. Depending on the zone, you get weapons early or .. not. If you do bhaflau ( this is the zone where getting gear is the easiest, but NMs are hard to get), wpn are easy to get as sson as you can kill biffrons ( 1 monk, or 1 pup, or 1 THF+NIN, or 1 WAR+NIN, 1 WAR+THF, DRG + thf etc, at least), so monk or pup not really needed here. If you do silver sea/arrapago, you can get your first wpn anywhere from 1 minute to 60 minutes, so you need H2H melee, so monk/pup are a must.

In the mage class job, you obviously want a whm. Brd are less usefull than rdm imo, since rdm can main heal a pld easily, and they can also nuke, sleep etc ...

Basically, all job are usefull in salvage, depending on how fast you can unlock their magic/weapons.

Salvage has a number of distinct phases. The opening is where you have no Subjobs, abilities, gear, or stats and here MNKs really rock. In areas where you get weapons early though, MNK supremacy is fairly short lived (though they're still a damn good DD of course though). Skill is one of the few areas where you aren't handicapped on entry.

For the first floor until you're starting to get equipped, RDM can be damn good instead of WHM. You lose status cures and R3, but you gain Phalanx II and a lot more usable MP. In a lot of zones too, (including the dreaded Arrapago) DRG works really well at the start. Wyverns knock around those annoying Qutrubs pretty well.

You need to know what drops you're going to get in a run, and tailor your party to be able to work with those drops. Then you need to be able to get those drops within a set timeframe so that you can achieve your objectives as well.
