I think that making that comparison Skaw, is just as much of a jibe as calling someone a hacker. And I disagree with it.



However unrelated it is though, if we were to continue comparing the analogy of hacking in regards to the law... A man who shoplifts, whether he is caught by the authorities or not, doesn't necessarily mean he will continually shoplift.

True if he is caught, he may be less likely to do it again, but that same man may not have stolen anything again after that point either. That's just an interpretation made because of what he has already done.

Hacking to rape is a very viable comparison but in two different worlds. Murdering and raping, imo, are on par with one another in Real life. The equivalent to either, in MMORPG's, would be hacking.

I was simply saying "He doesn't do XXXXXX anymore" isn't an excuse to clear your name for doing something heinous, in less than a maximum of three years(the US launch of the game.)

Rape was just what I used because the Sex Offender list is easy to view, and sticks with you forever. And Rape is the easiest way to land yourself on it, much in the way hacking is the easiest way to tell people you're a cheat.

Hacking isn't petty like Shoplifting. Shoplifting's equivilant would be like running a script to level Summoning Magic skill. Hacking is the top of the list in being a cheater.

Not quite. In terms of punishment, Rape and murder gets you the full court press from the judicial system. Likewise,in game, Hacking does. Not MPK, not harrasment, hacking. With harrasment you get a few warnings before a big warning tap on the wrist, suspension... number one. You get about three of those and same for MPK, if they even do anything. Hacking, can get you to the severe end of the punisment realm before you even know what hit you.

Hacking is no matter how a sensible person looks at it anywhere close to rape or murder.

Depends on how you look at it. All three, in real life on non game things, can get you the highest tip of the punishment tree.

I didn't admit to being a notorious hacker, I admitted to experimenting with a program, that's different. If you want to pretend your friends never have never been curious than that's your choice.
