Ah, yes. Samba De Amigo. One of my favorite games released originally in the twilight of the Sega Dreamcast.
Samba De Amigo was part of the musical genre of games that were (and still somewhat are) popular in the late 90's to the early 2000. Back when everyone was still crazy about DDR.
It's a Rhythm game produced by Sonic Team / SEGA that features predominantly Latin-themed music.
Old Clips from when I recorded my copy. Please excuse the image quality and slight desynch. I have since updated my recording hardware.
This game--ported from the Japanese Arcades--tried to be true to its original Arcade origins by offering an optional pair of Maracas sold separately for $80 USD (I don't know why I bought a pair back then).
The Maracas were motion-sensitive and detected the height they were held at and when they were shook, via a sensor bar placed on the floor.
The game was pretty successful worldwide. Enough to warrant a Japan-only update:
Samba De Amigo Ver. 2000
Featuring new songs. A new level. And Amigo the Monkey's sister, Amiga, joining in the party.
It's been nearly 8 years since the last time this game hit the scene, and since then, Amigo's done nothing but make Cameos in Sonic The Hedgehog games.
Finally however, thanks to the development team gearbox, Samba De Amigo is going to be ported to Wii this fall!!
New songs. Updated graphics. Sharper controls with either a Wiimote + Nunchaku control style, or Double Wiimote control style.
And like previous versions before it, downloadable songs will be available (notice the sticker in the upper left corner of the box art). Although its a Pay-To-Play Sticker like how FFCC:MLAAK has... >_>
The game's also gonna feature both old gameplay modes and new modes of play that weren't added in the original game such as Battle, Couples, Hustle, Survival, & Career. Minigames will be making a return as well.
Sega's also considering a Maracas attachment for Wiimotes to be bundled with the game. Perhaps something like the Wii Wheel or Zapper.
I'm pretty stoked about this game, just by looking at the trailer. I had ALOT of fond memories playing it for hours on end on the Sega Dreamcast version. The track list they chose for songs were really really catchy and stuck in your head.
I thought I'd share this with you all.
