I gotta agree with the silent hill series. Nothing freakier than flesh bag monsters and meaty face nurses.

But the fatal frame series had some of the best pop scares I’ve seen in any game. They just had a way of letting you see a ghost in the distance and letting you know you had to get damn close to it with your camera to get rid of it.

ET for Atari bitches...

Thought Resident Evil X was pretty cool.

Come to think of it, I havent played any scary games. Anyone want to linky me to some Emulators and Roms of PS1/PS2 and Silent Hill?

DIDDY KONG RACING! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

That fucking game pissed me off soooo much. -.-; I could never win it. =(

But yeah, Silent Hill for me. I have an unhealthy obsession with that game though. /freak

silent hill is one of the perfect example that a lot of developers need to look at. A game doesnt have to have top notch graphics to pull off the scary atmosphere. I personally thing sounds does it all. Just make the abnormal normal, thats what weirds out a lot of people.

RE is cool and all, but its too action-y. RE2 is probably the scariest RE in my book, only because there are so many surprises, like lickers jumpin through windows and shit.

But #1 goes to Silent Hill, for PS1/PC

The Silent Hill series by far. Never before has a game succeeded in creeping the fuck out of me. Resident Evil is good, and can be scary at times (the first encounter with a licker in RE2 brings some memories to mind), but RE to me is more of a pop out scare the shit out of you game, where Silent Hill is more of a creepy atmosphere that just continually keeps you creeped out.

Silent hill series for pure shit-your-pants and cant-sleap-flesh-straightjacket-zombes-will-eat-me Creepyness.

But Parasite eve was a better series.

I'll admit, RE had its moments. RE2 is one of my favorite games, it was fucking wicked. RE4 had a lot of terrifying moments, but thats more of a "holy crap I wasnt expecting this!" sort of thing. I chose SH because 1) When I played the demo so many years ago, I was almost too scared to finish it. Harry lit a match and held it above his head, demon babies with knives swarmed him and killed him. WTFWTFWTF. 2) Tell me the 2nd version of the game-world wasnt terrifying. Grated floors? Wicked creatures? Tell me, you lovers of horror...when you got to the reverse school and you checked the lockers where the cat was...the door that was threatening to smash open...and you opened it and...............nothing was there? Didnt fear grab you by the short hairs? Wtf was just in there making that locker door move? I saw it moving, so did you!

SH was terrifying. Part one. Part two three and four werent so bad. But part one..holy fucking crap. RE is known for its shocker moments, but most the time youre running around solving puzzles and killing the same zombie over and over. Not so scary after a while. SH had the habit of lulling you into a sense of false security every now and then only to uproot that feeling and dash you against the rocks of fear anytime a squeaking shade of a child or a cockroach decided to set off your static on the radio..

"Dont shoot! I'm a human!"

I voted for Silent Hill because the Midwich Elementary School is one of the freakiest areas I've ever explored in a game. (Fun trivia: Midwich was the town from the book that became Children of the Damned.) It was usually hard to play the game for more than a few hours before I needed to stop and take a break.

Honorary mention should be made for Eternal Darkness on the GameCube, though. Very few games manage to capture that Lovecraftian feeling of cosmic dread the way this one does... and the insanity effects (like the screen that tells you your memory card is being erased) are just icing on the cake.

Oh god, the Radio. The single scarriest invention in a horror game, EVER. The scarriest part is that it isnt 100% accurate, and isnt even consistant regarding distance. I'll be walking, walking, small static starts and i stop to look around. Move TWO FEET and somthing jumps at me from behind some rubble or w/e and the static starts BLAIRING. Or it'll get really loud, only to cut off suddenly for no reason.

FUCK I hated that radio. I wish the game had the option to just throw it away, then I might actualy be able to play in the dark for once.

I agree with Hal. Eternal Darkness is too often overlooked. Subtle things in that game are what sell it. Walk through the a kitchen half a dozen times and nothing. Walk through again, there is a man hung to death in the corner. That and the blue screen of death. Truly freaky.

I first played Resident evil 2 when I was 11 years old, that game gave me nightmares. Didn't play it again till i was 14.

I got a PS2 emulator, but i can't get it to work right. When I try to play FFX on it the graphics look all choppy and the sound is way off.

Well I dont really find any game "scary" but...there are occasions where i've almost shit myself. Like for example, playing RE4. I was in a dark room, and i was killing one of those spikey regenerators. I kill him and i still here their "breathing" noise...so im like wtf mate. I walk around the corner and the fucker is right in my face and lunges. I basically flew out of my chair and let out a womanly scream.

lol i had a friend do the same thing, the guy turns a corner with one of these right there. Here's what he does. He screams, jumps up, and shuts off his gamecube immediatly hahahahahaha i laughed soooooooooo fucking hard.

Played doom 3 for xbox? Play that in the middle of the night with the lights off. Guarentee you'll get freaked at parts.

Is that the game where you have to take pictures of ghosts? To like kill them? Habawabachubaanumba?

Clock Tower scared me worse than any of those games even came close to. =/ Parasite Eve wasn't really even meant to be a "scary" game I don't think.

Every time something happened in that game i freaked out, even though I knew stuff was coming. Did you ever get the Blue Screen of Death? For a second, I thought my gamecube was broke, it sucked.

The first time i got the memory card thing, i turned pale and was completely speechless... until everything went back to normal. What an awesome game. I heard there was a sequel coming, which would be pretty fucking cool.

I voted Silent Hill because of the overall atmosphere of the game. And the floating babies. And that cat that you save from the locker, only to hear him get eviscerated five seconds later. That freaked me right the fuck out.
