Ok, this will probably be my last topic for a while since school is starting and ill be pretty busy.

For those of you who will still have time for online games, but dont want to waste the monthly fee for a character your going to use maybe twice a week, I would recommend the following.

Place your character on suspension for the 3 months. That way, you save your character but dont have to pay the monthly fee.

Now choose one of these beautiful MMORPG to satisfy your time whenever you get a chance to play:

Knight Online:
Rufus do not change these links again

A simply wonderful game, although with a small community, that highly resembles FFXI. The graphics arent as good and the controls play like Runescape, but its a very very good game. This link will take you to a Free Server site so you can play without having to pay.

Ragnarok Online: Rufus do not change these links again
Another good MMORPG to satisfy your time with, though I wouldnt place it on par with KO or FFXI, it is nonetheless a wonderful game with a large community and EXTREMELY dedicated GMs. This is a free server.

Runescape: www.Runescape.com
I really shouldnt have to go into this one. Almost everyone knows about it. Its a great time waster, but I usually only play it during FFXI server maintinence.

I would personally HIGHLY recommend Knight Online. Its a combonation of FFXI and Runescape, and its actually quite nice. The only thing it lacks is a check system on the monsters, so be careful what you fight.

I still think that paying $12.95 a month vs buying a video game (usually worth $50 in the US, and $70 in Canada as new release) every month makes "paying to play" worth it, so even if I were in school still and didn't find the time to log into FFXI more than a couple times a week, i'd still pay for the account. Lucky for me though I work a 9-5 job, and so I don't have the hours of homework that follow leaving me all that time to play FFXI =)

Also, its actually spelt "C'est la vie" ;)

With Chocobo breeding introduced now, I am doubting folks will put their accounts on hold for a while, or their little Boko's might run away during that time, ect, ect.

DONT post private server links

Runescape got on my nerves.
As soon as I started people were trying to sale me shit or asking me to trade crap I never heard of. Also in towns all you see is "Does anyone want to be my girlfriend?"

and when u die dont you lose all your armor? well my laptop sucks anyways i only use it for online and emulators

That's because everyone who ever played or still plays Runescape is twelve years old or still has the same mental capacity as one.

In my opinion, pay the price and play the game. I failed two semesters of college to FFXI so can you.

Runescape is like Multiplayer AOL (AIM).

Did anyone ever play Gemstone III (Although now its Gemstone IV).
That thing kept coming back to haunt me for 7 years total. Eesh.

I've signed into Knight Online... I really only got a chance to run around a bit before I had to get to bed for work the next day... It appears that all gear is purchased online with $$ rather then dropped by mobs as in FFXI... Is this true? Is there any gear that is dropped?

I forgot what the word "School" meant when i started playing this game.

I'm happy to be rid of this game. Until I find something new to do with my time, QCDN hasn't heard the last of me however =P

Been playing Rag with my roommate since he refuses to go back to FFXI (and WoW was too much of an addiction). It is a paid account because if there are problems, there is a physical location and/or place to claim any possible stuff.

Currently in my final year of school, I should be doing more things like having a job while going to school, internships, clubs (that start at 6 or 7pm), getting plastered every night, etc. In the world of the low context (US and many western cultures are considered low context), time is everything and MMOs are considered time wasted. Schools try to teach in time management and such but it is easier said than done. Especially being a commuter student in a nearby city.

Have I missed out on the college experience? Not really. When on campus, I still go around grabbing free passes, food, and whatever college perks there are. It does cut into MMO time when studying and/or projects are needed but so would a full time job emergency, a special ocassion, animals/pets/kids, etc.

To say the least, I am old and prefer being home at night. With an MMO, there is no outside traveling time and expense besides a fee (for most MMOs). Also saves on gas.

When seeking party on not a high demand job or night, it is easy to read a textbook while waiting. Put the chat log in full screen, peek every once and a while, rinse and repeat. Or set up a static with flexible members so it works within a reasonble schedule.

There is always the idea of doing schoolwork ahead of time in the beginng of the semester ... :X

I hate to mention this but instead of computer fun, there are the outdoors. If it is too hot or one might explode at the exposure to sunlight, try to find stuff indoors.

Having a full time job does cut into free time, but after work a lot of the time you just don't feel like doing anything too active. I stopped being interested in TV a long time ago, so originally, I had MMOs and my computer to fall back on after a long work day. Once it becomes an addiction and interferes with your work/school though it is time to decide whether its something for you or not.

FFXI just was a pure and simple timesink to me, anything I did in that game wasted hours of time and required too much foreplanning to leave ample time to do.

WoW at first seemed like the kind of game you could play in small doses, until I reached the endgame. At first it was casual, but later on it consumed my life much like FFXI.

I like playing RO again, simply because it was a game I could just sit back and have fun with, without the crazy rampant addiction. I mean sure you can become addicted to any MMO but there isn't as much of a time constraint or the idea that telling your group you have to go will ruin their day, as grouping is a fairly simple thing, and you can still solo if grouping isn't your thing.

Having a job again (and the persuasion of another somebody ^o^) kind of helped get me out of the WoW thing, I'm somewhat glad. At first you think you'll lose a lot by hitting that delete button, but once you do it, you realize how much you've lost, or could lose, by beginning in the first place.

To all the young people reading this.

Do what I did:

- Finish College
- Get a extremely high salary job in which you spend all the day on the internet talking about games.
- Then play MMORPGs.

Absolutely, DON'T do this part I did (I didn't know better):

- Don't get married (wifes need time... lots of time.)
- Don't have children, (My son Neggy is 14 and he's already beating the crap out of me at videogames. He is on the path to become a better gamer than me) they take your game space!

Enjoy a wonderful life. ^^

ps. Even with wife and children theres still fun to be had. lol
