Sci Fi changing name to SyFy

While they're at it, I hope they change their slogan to "The home of Frankenfish!" since they're chock-full of made-for-TV schlock anymore and seem to have lost all interest in producing actual science fiction. As far as I'm concerned, this weekend's Battlestar Galactica finale is the channel's final dying gasp of relevance to my viewing habits.

"The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular," said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network.

It's not the brand name. Produce quality programming the general public and women want to watch instead of chaining together multiple reruns of older shows, and the audience will follow.

It really is kind of sad that just about any other channel has more quality Sci Fi programming than Sci Fi itself does.
 
I think I watched the Sci Fi Channel in 1994 for Saturday Anime (it is where I was introduced to Vampire Hunter D, for instance.)

I would watch it for its marathons of shows I liked too, but Halifirien's right; I don't know how many times anyone could really seriously watch Carnosaur or Lake Placid 2.
 
I used to watch stuff like the outer limits and old twilight zone episodes but anymore anytime i flip past it, its just stargate, dark angel, battlestar galatica or retarded movies.
 
Over here Sci-Fi put on Cowboy Bebop The Movie several times, prompted me to buy the film on DVD =)

But seriously though, why SyFy??? It's unappealing.

doesn't surprise me, i lost all faith in sci fi when they canceled star-gate sg1 and replaced it with pro wrestling. good riddance i say, shitty T.V. networks deserve to die.

tho sometimes those sci-fi made for t.v. movies are worth a good laugh, its like mystery science theater without the 3 guys making fun of the movie.
 
I'll admit I enjoyed Warbirds more than it deserved, but I'm only human...

Well its kinda sad when the Sci Fi networks most watchable show IS pro wrestling :P

It was the top most watched show on Sci Fi for the 25th week in a row now

This is what my dad and I do sometimes. We'll sit there watching some god-awful sci-fi original movie and go MST on it. Sometimes I think we should record it and youtube it.
 
stargate atlantis is canceled!!!1 I h8 scifi now
 
it'd be cool if they did a stargate show based on the disappearance of the Mayan civilization since there is so much speculation about them dealing with aliens lol
 
There is some new stargate series coming this spring/summer, they advertised it during the season finale of stargate atlantis.

Yeah stargate universe, from what i've heard its about an SGC mission to takeup the job the ancients didn't finish of seeding the universe with stargates. Sounds interesting, i just hope they dont screw it up : /
