Can you imagine if they accomplish this?
Sending messaged back in time like
"Hey titanic, look out for that iceberg!"

Im sure this is years of research to go, but theres always imagination!
its always a good time to look into stuff like this
http://www.timetravelfund.com/
lolz

Edit: and yeah i did join that time travel fund. I figured, what the hell. if its a scam or not, I got me a certificate. Its only 10 dollars and a chance which is all they offer anyway! who knows, i could be picked up after i post this lol!

Wow I actually read that whole site.
well besides the fact that im a big time travel freak who loves the topic.
If that fund site is real or not, thats quite a great concept and the rules seem to be pretty straight forward and legit.
i honestly dont know if i believe the site or not, and we may never know.
but hell, i got a certificate that says im being picked up in the future and belong to the fund for 10 dollars.
God i hope those damn dirty apes dont own the world by then...damn you!! damn yous all to hell!!!

Altought I myself an a time trave fan, thinking of each and ever possible thing that can happen if one person went back in time and changed sometime causes me so many headaches.

Like what you said; If someone where to stop the titanic from sinking think about the people who'd have lived. the new line of history that would make, how'd we live today, the fact that the titanic taught us "hey when you make a huge damn ship be sure to watch out for icebergs." If it didn't crash and sink we would have never learned the many things it taught us and we'd be out a movie too.

But i do love time travel and hope someday we figure something out so we don't ultimately destroy ourselves by trying to figure out how we came to be.

i love time travel but all the paradoxes that can occur fuck with my head alot too.
I mean my fave movies are back to the future and donnie darko.
back to the future is a prime example of fucking up the past and changing the future
Another one is Frequency, When the guy saves his dad from the fire over the cb radio, him mom gets killed instead because if his dad had died his mom wouldnt have been at the hospital to stop the doctor from giving that murderer medicine and he would have never murdered again.
but because he lived, his mom worked the full shift and stopped the doctor from accidentally overdosing the guy, who then goes on to kill 12 more victims including his mother.
and even then his dad still died of cancer and he had two sets of memories in his head.
Time travel can be a pretty bad thing in the wrong hands.
in a way, if it is created i dont think going into the past should ever be legal. unless it was under the rules of the time travel fund of only taking at point of death.

They should build their time machine out of a DeLorean.

Seriously, DeLoreans rule.

Too bad Back To The Future is full of lies. Deloreans couldn't reach 88MPH.

i watched Frequency in my math class earlier this month... man that movie was freaky o_O it really makes you think what COULD happen if u could go back in time to change things, all the possibilites and consequences. Its definatly a good movie if you havnt seen it.

movies that make you think like that are amazingly powerful. Kinda like the first Matrix movie. (the the series went to crap :x)

See but that's the thing about frequency and more time travel movies. If the Origanal past events never happened then he would have never fixed the radio to talk to his dad in the past and wouldn't have been able to cause the time change but in that aspect if that never happened he would have fixed the radio and saved his dad to begin with and that would create a time loop and causing one hell of a headache >.<

Do not remind me :(

IMHO: The only thing that could be done is time travel to the past. Since the future is not decided yet, you cannot every move into what it would be through any means. Also, going into the past from the presant would require that anything you change in the past must have already happened in the original timeline, thus nothing changed. For example, if one went back and warned someone of an impending doom, the person warned must still die in the same manner. The reason for this is: one wouldn't go back in time to change something that hasn't happened in their timeline because they had changed it by going back in time in the previous timeline and thus the problem wouldn't exist. The only time travel movie that took care of that was Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure where when they change something in the past, they remind their future selves to do it when they meet up again. And now that I've successfully thought in a circle, I shall go to sleep.

If you do something to change the past, then the past was never really decided either. Personally, this scares me. There are two main theorys of time. One, its a straight line, with only one reality. The other, time is curved, and there are many many different realitys. The first one is what scares me the most. What if some prick gets ahold of the technology and sends a letter to hitler, where our missle bases, army bases, all that, were? We would all be nazis now!

Time travel is great and all, but you have to think of the problems it could cause. Stopping osama bin laden/saddam hussein from being born, stopping major world events, all sorts of stuff would all have reprocussions. You might end up destroying yourself by changing the past. Who knows.

Its good, but it's not for me. Besides, if it's invented most of these things would already have been changed ;) Think about it, we'd still be living the same lives except maybe martin luther kind hadn't have been assassinated.

Its quite simple. You cannot change the past. Its really weird, but you can logic it out just fine.

If you were to go back to the past to change somthing, that means you were there when it happened the first time, and were obviously unable to make it how you liked it. If you DO magicly succeed, one of two thigs happens. A) You create some bizzaro alternate dimension where things happened differently, or B, you remove the reason to travel back in the first place, thus you never made the trip, thus you didnt change anything, and everything stays the way it was.

So save yourself the Brain-hurt and dont bother thinking about it :P

Traveling to the future is the same. You go forward to obtain some magical piece of technology, like warp drive or whatever. You go and get it, bring it back, and publish it. Thus, it never gets invented by the guy who's suposed to invent it, thus you couldnt have gone to get it from him, thus you didnt build it, and everything back to normal.

I spent way too many physics classes talking to my teacher about wierd stuff like this.

This one is kinda wierd to explain. Because time is better viewed like some giant, infinite sidewalk, and you move along it. Time is relevant to where you are along it. Its a mind bender for sure.

there's a reason star trek had a rule against time travel D: I never want time travel to come true.. things could be worse than they are x.x better to make better what we have now than try fixing the past that could horribly screw things up

Yeah if you go back in the past and change something, then that means it had to happen the orginial time that the event happened, but it didn't, because that event was carried out. So therefore nobody came back in time in the first place to change that certain something, there making time traveling seem impossible.

that's why a change you didn't intend to make would last :P if you intend to make a change in time you won't actually have that intention since you'd havemade it and the you would never think about it but if you just go back in time not intending anything and do something that you didn't intend that could be a change that lasts :\

what are you talking about? Dr. King is alive and well! And so is Elvis.

If I were to travel back in time, I would tell my past self to move to whatever town Jennifer Love Hewitt grew up in and to become her boyfriend as early as possible. Fast forward to the present: I'm banging Jennifer Love Hewitt. To me, thats the only benefit of time travel. Everything else will seriously fuck up everything we have already accepted and our brains would explode.

Nice post Chasym. I read the whole site, very interesting stuff.

In the Dark Tower Series there is a motif of time travel and how it messes with two characters heads, since they can remember both timelines (one where one of them lives, the other where they die). It's very interesting to see the kind of madness that sets in if you know yourself to have both lived and died at some point, and can remember it vividly.
