lol I feel as if I accomplished nothing compared to you guys. All I did was level to 15 on a Gladiator this weekend and that was it lol

It's no big deal in the long run, since Beta 3 characters get wiped. I'm mostly just leveling Thaumaturge because I'm not going to level it on my main character outside of cross-class abilities like Thunder. But I also want to mess around with battle companions and the higher level dungeons.

Whoops! Double posted.

Yeah, not really a big deal. I enjoyed Conjurer a great deal in P2 and wanted to see if I would find Thaumaturge as enjoyable since it was also a caster class. I did.

I was also curious about Pugilist's combat system (like the majority of people where) so I leveled it too. Also was curious to see what it would be like to level a secondary class when you had no quests to do other than the class quests every 5 levels. It ended up being about the same amount of time spent leveling in my opinion, which is pretty awesome. I say this because it takes more time questing due to the running back and forth from quest npc to objective and back to the NPC than it does just working on the Hunter's Log and doing FATEs as you run into them. It just takes about the same amount of time because what you lose with running back and forth between quests objectives is essentially recovered by the huge exp rewards you get from them.

I had so much fun!

My Character before logging off, Sucks to see him go. I would have kept him had he not been destined for deletion, but next week I can get back to the old version!

Those people in the 5th screenshot there Chasym, who are they? Are those the Warriors of Light? I saw that cutscene when I was doing the story quest and had no idea who they were lol I have yet to get around to watching all the plot summaries from 1.0, so maybe I should just do that.

They're the leaders of the three nations/Grand Companies. The Warriors of Light in this game are basically all the 1.0 players.

My god does that game look sexy... too bad I'll never MMO again ;p Still makes me a tad bit jelly.

Why no MMO again? This game isn't exactly hardcore at all, really, I think most MMORPGs are done with that anymore, at least the newer ones.

Having played Beta Phase 1 + 2 and now playing 3, I'm super stoked for this game. I'll definitely be playing more hardcore at open beta, starting on the Adamantoise server (probably) and making a Pugilist.

Over the weekend I managed to get to level 15 on my PUG with the main scenario at the point where you get sent off to the other cities on official duty. It kind of reminds me of the rank 3 storyline in FFXI that we all know so well. You start heading around the world and you are granted the airship pass.

On terms of gameplay and visuals, it's absolutely stunning. Strid, I said it before and I'll say it again. I can easily see why you loved the Alpha so much back then. Grid was awesome in Phase 1 + 2 and Thanalan is such an improvement from 1.0. Such a breath of fresh air.

One important note I wanted to point out. There IS voice acting in the game for the main scenario quest. The only reason they don't have it in the beta phase 3 is because there is a contract with the JP voice actors that they'll debut in Open Beta. For those of you who played and haven't realized yet, the main scenario quest line are the quests with the comet looking "!" above their head. It may be hard to tell since some of them are basic fetch quests and are redundant, but it's not like some of us haven't delivery Boiled Lizard eggs before. >.>

Yeah, it's made quite the change; honestly I was shocked at how much better this phase was from the previous phases. I think I can safely assume now that I can trust Yoshi P, fully, to put out and maintain a game htat will keep me heavily invested for years and years to come. I was down on it in the last couple of beta phases, but really, it was because we were testing the same content for like, the third time by then. This last beta I played non-stop and I'm super excited to get back to it. I got all nostalgic during the airship pass missions myself, it just... it felt right, you know? The entire game just feels "right" and I'm very happy to have a FF MMORPG to call home again.

The only thing I absolutely hate about the game is all the tedious amount of quests. I just want to grind or something and let that be it, but if there are quest to be done I feel obligated to do them for completions sake. I went from 1-15 in a few hours just grinding testing JP server latency. On the NA/EU server I did all the questing and such and I think it was around a day to make the same progress.

Yeah, the grinding can get a bit... repetitive, but what I did appreciate is how they're laid out.

I would finish a bunch of quests in one little hub of Central Thanalan and then it would take me to western. In one part of western, I'd have to do more tedious side quests (while hitting enter, ignoring all text - something I won't do come launch) and then get levels and be done with that area. Here's the smart part though, and I'm sorry if this has been done before as I'm not MMO experienced, but the last quest of an area of the map would send me off to a location that is within running distance, such as deliver this letter to so-and-so. That letter would be delivered to the new area (I'm thinking the western thanalan port with the 100g ride boat atm) and then once that quest was complete, a bunch more opened up and you did them in that area.

To summarize, if there's going to be fetch quests, I'm pleased that it's at a decent pace and well organized. Some of them were very witty too and I actually found myself chuckling.

Edit: I too was on the JP server Ifrit. And the connection was amazing.

I'm guessing I'm the only one that was having major lag and jumpy refresh rates. Kinda turned me off to the whole thing. And the jerkyness of the controls and free-scape camera really annoyed the grap outta me when changing targets and stuff. And idk why, but the fact that I could jump, while semi-sensible, really pissed me off for some reason lol. Could have been all the dumb-asses in the bar pretending they were in Halo. Idk, I wanted to try it on PS3 to see if the lag and frame-rates were better than my PC, but alas... The world will never know...

This sounds very strange to me. Everyone all over the beta forums were saying how well the game played and how smooth it was.

How is your rig?

A number of reasons actually, the major one being I don't have a system that can run this or any recent MMORPG's in the slightest. I will often go a week or two without jumping on a game as it is, and even the slightest dip in my wallet wouldn't be ideal.

I'll just live vicariously through whom-ever does play =)

I have to agree with you all, I felt burned out in phase 1-2, something just wasnt clicking and making me want to stick with it. I actually didnt bother to log in during the last few parts of phase 2. Got to about level 16 during that and just got bored. Phase 3 it has all come together! It feels great and I did not find myself being bored in the least bit. To know that what has been added so far made the game that much more enjoyable, and knowing there is still more to come that we haven't even touched on yet is getting me ready to dive back into an MMO for the long haul. I have been withdrawing since it went offline. cannot wait till this weekend so I can log in and sift through all the changes to my gear and start making decisions on what I will do come phase 4. Yoshi-P has certainly saved this game and made 1.0 a distant memory.

as for lodestone beta, here is my character.

Yeah, the questing of XIV is the very basic type done in nearly all MMORPGs and frankly, though it's organized, I wish it would die in a fire. I understand the majority of people hate kill grinding and would rather do this, but for me, it's all about kill grinding; all personal biases for the method aside, in most any MMORPG I have ever played, even if they do have crap tons of quests, kill grinding is the fastest way to level up [all progression req. and story missions aside]. I rather liked the original version and how it handled them to be honest, through just leves and such. But it's something I'll get over.

Yeah, I connected well to the JP servers, but my connection to NA/EU servers was way, way better. My group was looking to roll on a JP server, but now we're thinking the advantages of being on a N.A./EU server are too much to pass up in the long run.
