And why is Ifrit one shotting us with Hellfire?! lol

To weaken Hellfire, you must destroy the spike quickly before he uses Hellfire, So long as everyone is at least 60% health, hellfire shouldn't one shot you. Just finished this battle, worked the same as 1.0, but the server lag still made it hard to avoid cracks, and it seems the plumes are more active after hellfire so ya gotta move around more. No more standing still and edge curing!

XD Youuuu knooooow you want to give it a try... :D

The game's actually pretty casual friendly tbh, until you get to doing the dungeons, then you'll have to set aside 30-90 minutes to complete them depending on how good the group you go with works.

2 of the 3 level 15ish dungeons I main healed as a Thaumaturge (which is the class Blm extends from). I really enjoyed the whole experience. The first dungeon had a specific trick to the last boss fight where you had to shut off an different panels throughout the fight or else you'd end up being swarmed by difficult adds. The group I went with the first time had a really rough time of this since they wanted to just zerg the boss. Well that doesn't work. lol.. I noticed the grates and the effects and tried to explain it to them. Finally we got it to where a few of the melee would run to the grates that were going to spawn adds and shut them down.

It was pretty cool to watch and be a part of a group that actually learned the mechanics of the boss fights.

well I got sleepy and ended this part of the beta for myself. Got pretty damn far in the story, though I skipped all cut scenes to save something when I play for real. I am glad I did it this way because I learned along the way that I will have to plan ahead and reserve hot bars for many different things. I plan to split PLD into a Hate, Defense and offense set of bars since the controller allows the quick switch option so I can rapidly move between all of my skills and have them organized which I find to be much quicker than mouse and keyboard. Also have to reserve a bar for idle and general actions, sprint, meld, equipment sets etc. Then I need one for my chocobo companion as well. I will be able to set up fast now that I learned what all is needed and how to organize it when phase 4 begins.
The Chocobo companion is cool as hell too. I love how it actually puts you in a party with it.

You meet two Airship Pilots in this sequence. Biggs and Wedge. Love my Star wars references!

Full Barding

The story in beta ends after you join a company and get your chocobo anyway, so you completed what you could. I did the same thing. I wanna keep it fresh so I rifled through the cutscenes. Holy crap they looked cool though. I was really immersed in this story.

Another weekend, more stuff done!

3m7Sw.jpg

First thing I did was gather enough company seals to get a chocobo permit. Bismuth is reborn!

3m7UK.jpg

I joined a grand company last weekend, but I forgot to finish the actual quest until yesterday...

I told myself I wouldn't be such a prick in this game, but man, I couldn't stop myself.

The coffer we skipped had monsters I needed for my hunting log too, so afterwards I made them run it again :v

Testing out battle companion. It wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped it be, but that's because I was expecting the growth options being in by now. Will give it another whirl once Beta 4 rolls around.

3m85T.jpg

A nice little shot while on my botanist.

I like how involved gathering and crafting are in this game. I got Botanist to 11 and Carpenter to 4. I'd like to try them out more, but since progress will be wiped I'll save my maximum jewing potential for when the game goes live.

3m8bt.jpg

I made a new character on Leviathan to test out using the controller. It's pretty comfy, but I'm already too used to things like moving my character and the map at the same time to let keyboard and mouse go.

Got a bit in over my head.

Now for some choice scenery screens.

Useful info:
For the purpose of testing, after you finish the main scenario quests available in the beta, there are NPCs around the world that can boost any battle class's level to 15. They are
Swaenhylt in Camp Drybone(Eastern Thanalan) for Thaumaturge
Wihtred in Hyrstmill(North Shroud) for Conjurer
Aniud in Hawthorne Hut(East Shroud) above the town for Lancer
Chechezan in Horizon Camp(Western Thanalan) for Gladiator
Zacheus in Little Solace (East Shroud) for Archer
Urswyrst in Moraby Drydocks(Lower Noscea) outside gate near Chocobo Porter for Marauder
Adelard at the South Hammer(Western Thanalan) for Pugilist

Also, after you finish the second dungeon in the Black Shroud you can boost your class from 26 to 29 at any Wandering Minstrel in town. Good, because right now my THM is 22 and getting exp is a chore without quests. Both of these functions are there to let you test content on other classes without having to grind again.

Me and some friends are planning to roll on Hyperion once Phase 4 hits. Maybe if you're legacy and you're all alone/hate everyone you know you can come join us?

Has this changed since last phase then? I used to just kite the adds [WHM] while the rest of the group would gangbang the boss.

Since we have 3 starting dungeons rather than just 1, yes it has changed. 2 of them are brand new but I think the order in which you go to them might be the same no matter what city state you start in. I'm not 100% sure about that, but starting in Ul'Dah I had to so Shastasha, then Tam Tara Deepcroft, and then Copperbell Mines.

Edit: I thought you were referring to TTD at first but I see now that you were talking about Shastasha after all. You might have kited all the adds, but it was actually much easier just turning the panels off so that none, or only one add would spawn. And when that happened the melee would jump on it while I focused on healing the tank as best I could. Had a Warrior for that and he was getting pummeled pretty good by that boss, so If I had to worry about kiting all the millions of adds that spawn when leaving the grates alone the tank would have died and I probably would have died rather quickly too just because of the adds landing hits on me. I'm a wet paper towel after all when it comes to defense on Thm. /edit

TTD was definitely the easiest of the 3 as far as boss fights went, imo. Shastasha wasn't too bad once my groups figured out a strategy that worked (considering none of us knew what to expect), we wiped about 3 times before we beat it finally. TTD was pwned, and CBM I died on the midboss because I thought I was outside of the aoe circle and apparently wasn't and we wiped on the final boss only once before kicking his teeth in.

Sastasha => Tam Tara => Copperbell => Bowl of Embers => Halatali => Thousand Maws => Haukke => Brayflox

Make sure you get a chance to try Brayflox before Beta 3 ends, as they've artificially inflated the difficulty for that one. If you've got a Legacy character you can jump into Thousand Maws/Haukke/Brayflox immediately, as the quests to unlock them aren't in the game yet. Otherwise, you gotta grind it out to Lv. 20+.

Hopefully this weekend I will get to experience more. I had left off last weekend after finishing all the (3 beginner) dungeon storyline quests and then going to the camp that had the church/graveyard (in Ul'Dah's Story) and I had just finished up all the quests in that hub before I was able to move on to the next area.

My Thm was only lvl 20, but close to 21. So according to the list you have there Xali, I've got about 5 more dungeons/instances to experience. None of which I've been able to run through yet.

All in all, I don't really care if I get them done with the time I've got available this weekend. I'll be pleased if I experience them for the learning experience, but I won't mind if I don't get to them either, so that they are still new to me after P4/Launch.

this may be a dumb question but how does like the pugilist and monk work and all the other jobs /classes and stuff? do you like level up from a pug to monk? i was just wondering.. was confused lol

And to expand on that, no, you don't have to re-level from 1 on your Monk. What happens is you do a quest and get an item called, Soul of the Monk or something, not sure exactly the name, and you can equip it or not. Let's say you're a level 40 Pugilist; if you equip the item you become a level 40 Monk, take it off and you're a 40 Pugilist again. It cost nothing to change, it's just an equippable item like any ordinary ring, chest piece, etc.

To extend further, PUG is your class, MNK is your job. If you're on your job, you only have 5 additional skill slots to plug in to from your other characters, where if you're on your class, you have 10 slots, but you lose your 5 mnk abilities.

I am so torn on what class I want to start off as...

I'm gonna start as CNJ, even though I'll eventually level MRD as well. Warrior AF looks comfy as hell on Lalafell.

I'm gonna start out on Arcanist (if available at P4, if not MRD to lvl 10 then switching to CNJ or THM til launch).
