SE changed Thieve's Knife...

If it wasn't omg then why where ppl always running around selling it for 30 mil.

People used to pay up to 30 million for the Arco De Velocidad, too. There's no accounting for stupidity.

Yeah sure not now funny how stories change when ppl can get it easier, and not worth 30 mil anymore. If it wasn't omg then why where ppl always running around selling it for 30 mil. Come on damn. You guys all crack me up.

A. Everyone knew it wasnt that big of a boost. However with drop rates as shitty as they are in this game people take any shot at an advantage they can get.
B. 30 mil for free membership in almost any hnmls they want in order to have to do absolutely nothing until 5% no matter how crappy you are or much of a shithead(*cough*vang*cough*) while getting paid and getting tons of ex gear others can't get? Seems like a fair deal to me

You could make *plenty* of analogies in the game to this - for example, beating Shadow Lord way back when sneak and invis didn't exist and the level cap was 50 (and of course, a lot of the gear and items and spells - like Refresh - that we know and love today, didn't exist), compared to soloing/duoing Shadow Lord at 75, or for that matter clobbering him with a party of 75's in a minute or two.

Does the fact that Shadow Lord is easy *now*, make the accomplishment of people who beat him way back then (when he was hard), any less meaningful? Of course not. They did something difficult when it was difficult. The fact that it happens to be easy now, if anything, makes their accomplishment greater, because newer people can't really simulate the previous accomplishment.

It's much the same for anything else that becomes easier, whether we're talking Promyvions or getting certain previously uber-rare (not necessarily uber-useful mind you, this knife was always overrated) items, or what have you. The past accomplishment is in no way diminished, because you can always take pride in having done it back when it was actually hard to do.

And if you look back on that time and consider it a waste of time, well, doesn't that imply you thought of it as a waste of time in the first place? If so, the smart thing you should've done in the past, was simply not do it. There's no shame whatsoever in placing a little value on your time and saying screw it to an exceptionally bad time sink.

I incidentally have zero sympathy for people who like to get items for the sole purpose of feeling pleased with themselves that they have something that other people don't. Bolded for emphasis - the draw of the item to such people is not the effort put into obtaining it, or the improvement gained, or the quality of the item itself. It's the feeling of superiority over people who don't have it.

(As a stunning coincidence, it's frequently this sort of person who gets massively upset when things get easier and other people can get their previously unique and lord-over-able shiny thing. Because, of course, this concept bothers such people far more than it bothers someone who just wanted the thing for its stats.)

Not only is that shallow (and frequently a mark of insecurity), but it's really a very shaky thing to base your ego on - because, as we've seen here, a little flick of the switch by S-E and suddenly you ain't so special any more. :P

I never personally saw why Thief's Knife was so sought after. It raises drop rates by an unseen amount. Rather, it makes me think of the 6% crit weapons...you may do better with it but there's people out there that'll still do better than you without it. And some people, based on their luck, may not see an improvement at all.

However, this is just my opinion, and many may disagree with this. Many may have seen a world of difference with this knife, I have not. Is it a piece of crap? I dunno, it's sortof impossible to parse. I personally always believed that larger parties improved "prospecting" which caused better drop rates than any amount of thieves in a party could, myself. To each their own, I say let them think what they will.

THF doesn't have to do dick all for TH to work. SE has stated this so long ago. As long as they're in the party/alliance when the mob dies, it works. No activity required.

Well, you can parse it, rather easily. Get multiple thiefs, an equal number with as there are without the knife(like 5/5,) kill 100 goblins each. Count the amount of masks and helms you got, average it out for both types. Take the difference between the two counts for both Thief-types..

As for larger parties, you're right. Every character regardless of job has a base Treasure Hunter Value. Thief simply has a higher amount, but not so much more that TH2 is necessarily better than a full party of non-thieves. However, a full party of Thieves will blow away a full party of non-thieves when it comes to drop rates.

My point exactly. You have to not be afk at 5% so you can get into the party. I don't see how you misunderstood my first statement.

omfg I got Cleric's Mitts +1! Worship meeee~
Actually seems more like a punishment since I can't even store my set now.

But yeah, it seems to boil down to people just wanting to have crap others don't have, i.e. the people in the patching thread worrying about how A/E/M/W Bodies possibly becoming common due to Assault and at the same time they call none of them "good" pieces.

Personally, I'd say that most folks are upset by the loss of status of having an item that was once hard to get, and now is "less hard". My condolences to all those that invested so much and are not part of a elite group.

QFT!! that is the main root of all the bitching.

lmao yeah ok. What i was getting at is these ppl that bought it for that much. The thf Knife is a good item to have for dynamis and such i believe but i would never pay that much money for a stupid game Item. But still funny how the knief was something until everyone can get it then all you guys change your stories now it sucks.

that knife was 99% status symbol 1% item.

people usually got that knife for 1 of 2 reasons. for the TH+ or to have people oooh and aaah when they get checked and see that they have it. i feel it was mostly reason #2. i wanted to get one for elphaba when her thf hits 70 but we are to casual of players to waste months upon months camping for 1 item. SE took away the ego trips associated with this item.

Ding.
Tho i'm in the camp that its a little too easy to get, mostly because of the dozens of mobs it drops from. Shoulda just been pursuers on the Sozu map.

Should've just not been as great of a drop rate for the actual knife.

lol people just can't be happy. You whine because gil seller bot nms to out claim you, you whine because you killed x mob 30 googlplex times with no drop, Square finnally hear your crys and crushes the gil sellers and up the drop rate so what do you do? you whine it to easy. Im sorry there is no "on the line" pick a dam side.

I don't think you're getting it. There's a quote from The Incredibles this whole thing makes me think of: "And when everyone's special... no one will be." Yes, people were bitching because it was overcamped and the drop rate wasn't fantastic. But there should be a happy medium in there somewhere. I think it's great they stuck it to the gilsellers. However, I think it's kind of stupid to have every Tom, Dick and Harry walking around with one because the drop rate is foolishly easy. Makes it kind of a joke.

I'm not a thf and have no intention of leveling it past a sub ever, so I could truly care less. But I think you're a bit off trying to simplify this as a "you-people-are-never-happy" kind of thing. I can see what these guys are saying on both sides.

I agree it should be at least A LITTLE more difficult to obtain, however, I don't think it should be any more difficult than Moldavite Earring. The earring that defines blm. This knife, in a way, defines thief.

SE should have made it rare/ex and put the mob on an EXACT two hour respawn and just turned it into a free-for-all much like mysticmaker. Every thf worth his weight would be in there camping it until he/she got one. It absolutely should not have been something people camped for 2 years.

My 2-cents at least.

Now that was just mean. I've never been a grammar nazi. ; ;

Oh... it's on now.
