SE doesn't know how to handle patches >.<

I've been trying to update for over an hour now, many times I get errors, sometimes I get to download version info and check files and stop there, once I got to the part where I'm actually downloading the patch but it stopped me there.

SE should learn two things:
how to setup a que so their servers aren't overloaded and once someone starts getting the version info they don't have to hope they get into the next part (actually dling the patch ) with luck.

something called RESUME, after downloading the version info and the thingy checks files, and tries to connect again to get the patch it trips over itself and have to start back from step 1, I'm sure it's really helping SE's servers when I download the same version info like 20 times because I -have- to after not making it to the actual patch.

It wouldn't even be that bad to DC if you could resume after it boots you >.< the way I see things happening is this:

step 1: *Attempt to connect to server*
step 2: download patch info
step 3: *disconnect from server*
step 4: Patch info is checked against current files
step 5: *reconnect to server* (If reconnection fails you've to start from step one)
step 6: actually download the patch, and you're done

Step 5 fails like 95% of the time because of the overload. >.< so the way I see it is step3 shouldn't ever even happen >.< it should keep you connected to the thingy no matter what once you get in, OR at the least let you start up from step 5 if anything goes wrong

(again all steps and such are from ovserbation only, not like I bortherd with netstat and crap to check connections)

Um I used to get that error all the time...

Main Problems:

DSL and Router... try connecting directly to your modem and not through router. Or try flashing your router firmware to an older version, both methods worked for me.

Im sorry, I find this absolutely funny. I had 0 problems DL the updates. I've never had a problem downloading any updates/patches.

Don't try to rush your freaking update as soon as humanly possible(ie Right at or after the time its suppose to be finished).

I can only guess those of you with no patience are the ones who have never played an MMO other than FFXI. Patches take time, servers go down.. when they go back up you should be happy that they dont have to go back down again for some kinda of emergency maintenence because an unexpected problem arose(sp?) with the patch. SE as far as I can tell has done remarkably well with not having any problems with patches, atleast on our server.

Some MMO's rush their updates out to try and please thier customers.. which only results in the servers being brought back down for more maintence.. which ofcourse angers the players/customers even more.

Go read a book, play another video game, go see a movie or two, hell i dont care.. go have anal sex with your butt buddies for all I care. Point is, just go do something while maintenance is going on. When its finished.. or just finished, give it some time before you rush the update onto your pc.

Now.. if you havent rushed it, and your still getting errors out the wazzoo.. then I dont know what your problem is.. might be your internet connection, might be that your pc is a lego block with some wires on it.. but its not SE's fault. Unless everyone and their moms is having problems with it.

I never had an issue either. This one is botched, I'm convinced by the numbers of upset people. I think you got lucky.

Ditto here. It's been done for about 3 hours here, and I can't even CONNECT. I didn't have any problems connecting YESTERDAY.

I don't see how it can be an internet problem when I can post here or talk on MSN.

Square Enix is really ticking me off. I've been stuck at 83% about 3 times, 65% four times, and just randomly disconnected many times. I'm testing my connectdion by posting here and I have no problem getting aroudn the site.

I click the retry button four or five times and then it starts to download and THEN it disconnects me... I mean, if they know they have an increased population of players they should bloody well increase their ability to accomodate this download.

The thing that ticks me off, if we even called them to complain, I'm sure WE"D look like the bad guys to them.... arg!! I didn't have troubles connecting yesterday. I didn't have troubles this morning 2 minutes before the update. I didn't have problems with MSN/QCDN or the main login page...which is probably going on me as we speak, so this just sucks.

And....this is an angry taru after trying to update for the past 3 hours... leaving NOTHING else open other than that dang POL screen.

Note to Square enix. If we're downloading you're stupid patch, don't handicap us by forcing us to stay in the update screen. We should be able to at least complain to people on our friends list.
