WOW! what a bunch of incompetent fucktards!!!!

ok, ill try to sum my story to a few major points....

soo i am gonna fight maat this weekend...i want to have a nice fraps-ed vid of it. Unfortunately, my fraps vid recording looks shity with diff settings... so i call SE to see if i can do something to make FPS or anything run smoother. (and no i didnt say anything about fraps).

first guy: give specs > tells me to DL a catalyst driver update > i DL it, turns out the DUMB FUCK TSR CANNOT READ, i have a MOBILITY radeon...as in LAPTOP, not stationary desktop... so that dumb bitch gave me a link to a desktop update, which then, after DL and install, promptly ties my comp down and fucks the shit outa it while im gawking helplessly...

second guy: me"omgwtfj00nubbitchassho?" > "oh dearie!", tries to find me a LAPTOP fix for this, but sadly, is unable to find one, tells me to call HP when their support hours is up. > i goto HP.com, search my model, and VWA-LA <sp...wtf> i find a godamn fix in 2 sec... like wtf, those assholes cannot find a godamn fix in 5 min of me waiting when i can look it up in under a minute???? > i DL & install... nothing is working...

third guy: OMG THIS GUY IS ALMOST HELPFUL!... :evil: he gives me a helpful idea...finally after me bitching at him for the other bungling morons... he says find the ATI software restore CD's that came with my comp, because at the state at which i played before everything crashed was just fine.


sooo now here i am...venting about these deuchbags and trying to dig up my restore CD's as if it was an episode of "the legends of the hidden temple" and Olmec told me to run past the monkey pit to get to the golden monkey statue while trying to avoid getting captured (molested) by the acient gate gaurds that are extremely obvious to see where they are hiding because of their bigass nasty-gold-thong-ness cramped in a 3yo's bubble ball play pin....

Wait, so you're contacing Square Enix... who maintain a game you happen to play... for hardware support regarding your laptop?

You're not going to get nice looking videos without turning down ingame graphics or your recording settings. Playing a hardware-intensive game is one thing, but recording realtime uncompressed video to your hard-drive at the same time isn't going to give you real incredible performance no matter what you're running. "Update your drivers" is a nice way of saying "Sorry, you're not getting much else until you buy new hardware."

This isn't Square's fault, they shouldn't even be liable to give that kind of support.

Why would you call SE about FRAPs in the first place? It's not their product si they have no reason at all to even consider helping you "fix" it, and their game runs fine without it. Your underpowered hardware is what's causing the problems.

also, davio.... ima dude, so hoping you were referring to the person below me... annd.... i called to ask what i could do (setting wise) to up the performance of my PC for FFXI.... and i think they are liable for giving me a freaking desktop link when i said it was a laptop...
 
Still, you can't expect much support from a company who develops a game you play, about how to make your computer faster.

I have a fairly decent gaming rig, getting a little old, but when I run Fraps it bogs my shit down quite noticably. You'll get the best results (and decent vids) if you go half-size, 30fps, no sound settings in Fraps. The game may appear to be laggy, and it is, but the videos will come out at the regular framerate. Going with no sound cuts the hard drive write queue by a significant amount, so unless you absolutely need sound then disable it for performance.
 
SE's help glossary that is included right next to ffxi config's file spells out how to improve fps for every settings option. Beyond that, there is nothing SE can do to make the game run smoother for you with game settings. As for you downloading and installing bad drivers, that falls on your responsibility. You should be happy he took the time to even try to find some drivers for you, even if they were the wrong ones. If you know what kind of video card you have, it is a simple matter of using google and a tiny ounce of self effort to find them yourself. Further, windows restore points and safe mode can easily rectify faulty video drivers long enough for you to uninstall the bad ones and install the good ones. Bottom line, don't blame tech support for you being computer illiterate.
 
I agree, to my knowledge, and if someone has ever bothered to read the licence document that comes with ALL drivers, specially the ones by the most respected companies, such as ATI and Nvidia, they say it's your OWN responsibility and that they can't provice any kind of support.

As for your issue, you can't expect a laptop computer to run as a desktop, they are designed for travel and power saving, they sacrifice some stuff in order to consume less energy, and some laptop Videocards are more designed to produce 3D graphics for software other than games.

Finally, you should know that recording uncompressed video while haveing your graphics accelerator in use, causes major slowdown overall, but that can change with faster procesors, in this case, I bet your card didn't have a problem AT ALL, but it was your processor when you wanted it to take up another task when it already had a hard one such as running a game that's very processor intensive, especially when there's many chars on screen.

Forgot, that's why, the guy at SE I bet he thought you were running the game under normal circunstances, thought it might have been a driver issue because if you provided them your PC set up they were surprised you had all the necessary hardware to run the game like you usually do, they can't read minds :P.
