This has always crossed my mind when I'm leveling but have you guys noticed that SE has a tendancy to put high level mobs that aggro in all the main areas that everyone plays in?

You hit the dunes and need to deal with gobbos
You hit Qufim, watch out for the undead and those pesky elementals!
Get your butt to Kaz and look! MORE GOBBOS!
The citidal, Need I say more?

I haven't leveled much beyond this point (or none at all)
But SE, You have a sick sense of humor

I suppose they do want the game to have a challenging element to it. The only area I really MIND the high-level aggro'ing mobs is Kazham. In most places you can steer around the mobs that aggro, because there's room to maneuver. In the jungles of kazham, the maze-like passages are just too tight. I learned that I could ride a chocobo to get INTO the jungles safely, but unless the entire party was returning to the port as a party (doing the hard-slog to fight their way back as a group), any individual would SURELY die. You'd need the ability to warp back (I bought scrolls of "instant warp" before every trip to the jungles) or you'd need the ability to sneak (not just "sneak" per se, but anything sneak-like such as invisibility, etc.) Gobs attack on sight so "invis" or "prism powder" would be needed. Prism powder (for us non-mages) is expensive and a scroll of instant-warp is cheaper, faster, and more reliable -- so that was method of choice.

It seems like everytime I go to a new area I have to be prepared for "what's it gonna be THIS time". Getting to Norg (through the Sea Serprent Grotto) it seems like everything is lvl 50-60 mobs -- and of course it's the level 30 players in search of their advanced job quest (SAM and NIN) who have to go there. It took a while to learn that it was *just* sneak (silent oil) that was required. Once I memorized the route (just hug the right-wall and go through the somewhat hidden door on the wall) I could actually make it on just a SINGLE silent-oil -- but when I first learned I was burning through half a dozen silent oils and prism powders (not knowing that prism powder is not needed) and still somehow managed to get aggro and killed half-way through.

Qufim's pretty bad with the Dancing Weapons in the tunnel. You just see about 15 low level players just trying to get onto the island trapped in the tunnel because there's a weapon running back and forth. Thank god a lot of high level players also use the tunnel and usually kill the mob so the rest of the players can pass.

yeah. the only exception i have found is altepa. yes there are anticans, but they arent where everyone partys (least at lvl 30-36)

and with kaz, the mandy's are NICE exp. but the gobs make in a headache to lvl there (not to mention the morons, but that isnt SE's fault)

That is why they made silent potions. If there wasn't ever a need to sneak past something those items would be pointless.

Now night time spawning creatures is just evil. You'll be in a middle of a fight while not paying attention to the ingame clock and BAM you have a banshee up your butt while finishing off that pugil oh and then the weather changes and a thunder elemental picks off all your mages. >< Yeah that just happened to a party I was in. :(

My first trip through the Sea Grotto, I ALMOST made it to Norg, solo, and without sneak or silent oils of any kind =D Opened up the "secret" stone door, and was immediately greeted by one of the ghoul-type mobs right on the other side. Ran as fast as I could, but died on the last little leg before Norg T_T

Gobs in Buburimu

The Gobs in Buburimu were number one on my list of "Things to Kill When you are 40" list. From Windy, running to Mhaura from Tahrongi in the teen levels was a ritual for many who needs to do the subjob quest and level to 20 in the Dunes. I have been killed by the silly Gobs many times. Unlike Valkurm dunes, these gobs rarely get hunted by anyone. Urg!!

I remember leveling in Kuftal tunnel and we were doing great leveling off crabs and getting good exp. points. Then a NM crab spawned right on top of us and I saw the BLM getting hit. I almost got a cure off but it was too late and he was dead. Then it was my turn to die. The rest of the party made it out alive. I wonder why out of all the places to make a NM spawn why make it spawn in the tunnel going down to the rest of the cave. Maybe I missed something too but I dunno. It happened so fast and it came up to us from behind. Anyway thats a warning to those leveling in that spot in the lower 50 level range.
