Search Function Debates.

First I would like to say, I added this to the flameboard because I'm pretty shure someone is going to get the panties in a twist over this.

Second, this is about people supposely using Search function to see if people are camping a certain NM or HNM then going to camp. Like for exmaple.

This will list people in Onzonzo, and If I see people of high levels in a level, I would suspect that LoO is popping soon, so I would try to camping him as well with my PT.

I'm shure you guys know what this is though.

Third, I myself have never done this before, and the only HNM I have fought is Simurgh, witch isnt a big deal. But I cannot find a reason to why it's wrong.

Calling some one cheap for using /sea all is like calling someone cheap for spawn fragging(FPS player thing).

People used to call me Spawn fragger all the time, but when it comes there chance to do so, they proceed. This goes for /sea all as well. Until the day 1.) Someone, or anyone gets kicked from a HNM shell because of using /sea all, or 2.) SE decides to add using /sea all for HNM benefits against the Terms of Use, and will punish accordingly.

Until then, stop making up imaginary rules, and learn to use the system, and everything in this game to your full adavantage just like every single player should.

So to be fair, I would like to be shown why Search function is bad.

So let the debate begin, what's so bad about using search while NM & HNM camping?

The problem is that you are pretty much screwing people out of their hard-earned reward. They have likely been there for a couple days, and have either fought the HNM or just seen it killed. They have put in some effort, while you just /sea all and came. You're trying to get something for not even spending an iota of work, that's why it's so heavily frowned upon.

That being said, I've searched a zone that I was headed to exp in to see how many parties were there, and I noticed that there was obviously an HNM about to pop. I didn't just grab people to go CC the people that had worked to get the times and were already there, I stayed with my party and exp'd.

You didn't do anything but leech off of other people's effort, so why should you get the NM or the drop?

Well, I always wanted to see a Behemoth, so I searched a few times and when I saw a bunch of people there, grabbed oils and powders, a level 1 job and weeeee..... Ver's running nakie around a big dog.... (ok, that does'nt sound right...)

The other was to see Vrtra, just wanted to make sure no one was fighting it and I would not screw up targeting or anything.

Unfortunately Baja, you're saying if you see people camping an HNM, you shouldn't gather a party/alliance to countercamp. But that being said, that'd make it unfair to gather a party/alliance to try tomarrow, or the day after that, because it's equally "unfair".

But if this were the case, it'd mean once a certain LS gets a HNM, they're entitled to it until they wipe, can't camp a certain day, or there's another maitenance. Which, sorry, that'd be even more unfair.

First off, you wanted to see it, not fight it. I don't really care if you just want to watch me kill an NM. If you're planning on coming back tomorrow after /sea the zone or for someone, that's entirely different. Show me how you just watching someone kill something gets you anything?

On the second part, its again different to just happen upon something than it is to actively ruin people's hard work. When you search-whore, you are doing it for the sole purpose of beating whoever is there, and you are only concerned with your own greed, hence the whore part.

Baj, don't get me wrong, I don't think doing /sea so you can see when a HNM is about to pop is the proper thing to do, the first part of my post was just ... you know... me bored telling a couple of stories... :wink:

As far as the second part, well again, even if I don't agree with doing the /sea thingy, I was just showing you people ruin others effort / time every second in this game, which makes the argument kinda weak.

Your party is pulling great exp then another party shows up
You're camping a lottery pop NM and someone comes and claims it
You're looking for a coffer for your AF when a THF comes and pick it in front of you
Someone camping a ranger to see what direction they will take off (ranger spent all the time leveling to get there)
Etc.

To be honnest, I don't know, it does seems unfair and unethical. But this sorta things happens all the time. I don't see this debate coming to an end, that's for sure.

counter-camping isn't a bad thing. When the ONLY reason you're even there is because you /sea the zone or /sea all someone, that's what I don't like. Some people actually wait in a zone for hours on end to find a ToD, others happen to find it out when they're exping there. There are plenty of legitimate ways of finding a ToD, but some people are just greedy pricks and are willing to do anything to get money.

I think /sea all area is dirty fighting, but so is pretty much everything else in HNM nowadays. It doesn't really matter how the countercampers got the ToD, fact is they are at the spawn, (not YOUR spawn, THE spawn) and you gotta spam instead of relaxing. I never cared much except when it was in the last hour of the window, some bastards show up and get the claim. I've been spamming for 2hrs... sigh. But you gotta remember you arent entitled to anything, its not YOUR pop, not YOUR nm. So ya just bite your lip and move on to the next day.

Don't like it, but learned to live with it :/

I actually got chewed out for happening to come to Maze of Shakrami during Argus's spawn window because people were all "You counter-camper, you just did a /sea and you're crap for doing it" (not an exact quote but a reasonable translation) This was from people who I didn't recognize from anywhere, and would suspect to be EU from the style of English they spoke. Anyway, the real reason I was even down there was for my RSE chest. Now I happened to get his ToD from that, and could just go around every day from there on. Even if I had done a /sea all, its the same as just walking in to take a gander at who's there at any random point, just without the travel expenses/time (which I can see as somebody being lazy/cheap). If you have such a big problem with competition, then you have bigger issues than people counter-camping you once in a while. I have never done a HNM, I'm not of level to yet. But I can tell from what I hear that its just a bunch of MPKing and counter-camping/backstabbing fun. CGS MPK the NA, NA MPK the CGS, JP sit back and laugh as the GMs do nothing for the NA.

I agree with the whole "If you came upon leaping lizzy while just walking through you wouldn't pass it up, even though you didnt' work for it" because it rings true, I don't care if you call me a greedy bastard or what not, because EVERYONE loves something for nothing. I can't see anyone throwing away the 1 mil gil a seller mis-sent, or the sniper rings that a quitting friend left them just because they didn't WORK for them.

I agree with mistaya completely ppl keep bitching about /sea whores but the way I see it is what ever way u can get a nm claim do it. If u dont like the ppl that do that keep a record of where and when it pops and get there closer to the pop time. Now I realize that isnt as easy as I said but these /sea whores arent gonna stop cuz some of them are successful at claiming it this way and thats how they get filthy rich. Ive had many NMs claimed by ppl who just showed up and that indead pisses me off. As far as this subject goes my solution is if u cant beat em join em. From my personal experience doing the "honerable" thing has dont nothing but made me lose out on valuable things. Yes I make good friends but these friends arent gonna just give me a couple mllion gill. Most cases I get nothing for doing the "honerable" thing and iim gettin suck and tired of it I need money like everyone else, call me greedy if u want but till these hard workin ppl share there money with those who do the "honerable" thing I noe dont give a fuck. If I gotta be a /sea whore to get the damn money I need to be able to make alot of money im gonna do it. obvoiusly ppl arent gonna stop doing this as long as other ppl are successful. Its not your nm/hnm its a nm/hnm and its first come first serve. Im sorry u spended hours waiting there and missed out but I reccomend for yall try some way to trick these CC and gl with that. Being honest and "honorable" has dont nothing but get me so called friends that never help me out. So I say to those hard workin ppl yall better find some way to not work so hard for things some ppl can get in a fraction of the time.

It's just another way of getting a ToD, people who are pissed about it are just the people that were unlucky that there was noone else down there to /sea for when they wanted to kill a NM.
