Semi-new to FFXI. Getting a new computer...

Hello everyone. I'm planning on getting Final Fantasy XI in the next couple months, 3 months max. First off, I'd like to say that I've played this game before on PS2, and I love it. I'm just starting to get into PC gaming. I'm basically getting a new computer strictly for internet, FFXI, and other small things.

What I'm wondering is will this computer be good enough to run FFXI? I don't mind if I have to tone down the graphics a little, or anything like that, I'm just wondering if it will run it at all. I'm almost postive I'll have to upgrade the graphics card, but if not, please tell me because I'm on a pretty tight budget when it comes to money.

By the by, I know most Emachines suck, but just take a look at it. Considering past computers they have made, this one looks pretty good. But I'd like to add that I am no computer genius, but I'm also no moron.

Thanks in advanced! :)

The processor and ram more than meet the need for max settings in ffxi. However, I'm not to clear on the machine's vid card even after googling the motherboard. Is that with or without an ingrated vid card, I found one of each kind being made (RADEON XPRESS 200P being non-integrated). If it's integrated, scrap any gaming plans with it right now. However, if it's the MB that lets you install your own pciExpress card, then you are set as long as you pick up a decent card. Geforce6600gt or radeon x800 and up are good buys for the money right now.

P.S. Avatars need to be at max 100 pixels wide, otherwise they mess up the board.

Well first fix your avatar  100x100 px onry!!!!

The computer looks fine, maybe want to upgrade to 1gig of ram in the future, I found it runs much better with 1gig than 512 but thats just me. I'm not sure on the video card, it looks half decent, if you have the money might want to upgrade to Nvidia or something along those lines..

Best of luck.

Hm..alright, thanks alot for the tips. I'm not sure I'll be able to upgarde immidiately...so hopefully that will do. I'm not sure if its integrated or not, either.

Oh yes, if its not to much trouble, could somone please give me a good graphics card to buy, preferably from ATI that is cheap, yet can run FFXI fairly well. It doesn't have to be the best, I just need it to turn FFXI at the medium requirements.

piece of advice....stay away from emachines ...especially for gaming. there is a reason why they are so cheap

Well, I did say I was on a tight money budget. What computer would you reccomend to me then? Up to $700.

:P i'm running a T3958 and a radeon 9200 SE and it runs FFXI extremely well, nothing wrong with an emachine if you're lookin to save a buck. For the record i'm runnin MxO on minimum RAM without incident either, granted it's no alienware but my emachine does me just fine! *end mini rant

I'm on an E-Machine too.

I haven't had a single problem in the 2 years I've had it. Looks like you have the same chipset for a video card that I have. I just stuck a Raedon 9200 in and I was good to go. It cost me about 100 bucks.

Any Video card will do as long as it has 64mb+ of vid memory and is agp compatible. 64 is kinda weak tho, get at least 128mb for a nice gaming experience.

Up to $700? jesus, why were you looking at e-machines. Get the parts from newegg.com and you can get a better than average PC that can run any game out (Besides BF2 and Fear). I know you probably have no knowledge of building PCs, you can definitly find people to help you pick out parts. Thats the easy part. See if anyone in you area would put one together for you if you dont wanna try yourself.

Definitely www.newegg.com its the hotspot for computer parts and usually has the cheapest stuff. I just built one thats pretty damn good for $1100, and thats with the main parts all costing about $160. You should easily be able to order a full system for under $700. The only part thats really going to cost you is a monitor. If you want, look under the Go go new computer post in general discussion and it should have a link of my build.
If your feeling lazy and don't want to build one, and buy a pre-assembled one I'd bet money you'll end up regretting it.

These look good for their price. ;o

Oh my god. Mithra, is this legit? There has to be some sort of scam here, because from what I've seen here, these computers are great and are around $600-$700 for what I need.

Thats not a scam, ive ordered 3 not for myself but for friends. There are lots of bad reviews, and lots of good ones. So either way, its risky getting a PC from them but you may turn out lucky. Why dont you build your own? That way you know if theres a problem you can fix it yourself most of the time.

Edit - No matter where you order from, if they are custom machines like ibuypower then PLEASE do yourself a favor and do NOT compromise in getting a cheap PSU. Good Power supply brands are Antec, OCZ, PC Power And Cooling, Ultra-X-Connect and some others. My favorite is Antec, they're not flashy but they are very reliable. Just remember that, the power supply is the heart of a computer.
