Sextuplets' parents want apology for transfusions

I guess that all depends on how they phrase the apology. Both sides are right. That's what makes the story so interesting.

I humbly disagree with your opinion, as well as Reeve's. The hospital had every right to take those kids away to give them the life saving blood transfusions they needed. The parents can go fuck themselves. Apology? Go kiss my ass. The children should be taken away from their parents, it's obvious the assholes don't have the best interests of their kids in mind.

Human life is more important than any religious crap, and don't you forget it.

Refusing treatment for yourself is one thing. But no one should have the power to deny the treatment of another. Especialy one who has no ability to speak for themselves. They might grow up and decide not to follow this religion.

People aren't idiots for their beliefs, except for Scientologists, what the fuck's with them?

Sad to say...but it was entirely within the parents powers/rights to say no to the transfusion. There was legally nothing forcing the hospital to give the children blood, so if the parents said no...then they should have abode to that. I personally find it absolutely horrible that anyone'd actually say not to do a transfusion like that, but with the way our system works, that's...well...how it goes. =/

Switch to decaf. You'll thank me for it. Your problem with this is your definition of "best interests" differs from the parents. I'm sure if you asked most religious people, they'd disagree with you and say what happens in this life is far less important than what happens in the next.

And it's the parents right to refuse treatment for their children. Part of being a parent is making medical decisions for the children, since the kids can't make those decisions for themselves.

From what I read in that article there was no legitimate need for the transfusions because it said they were in stable condition prior to it. If that's true I'd agree with Mishaela and Reeve... otherwise- if it was absolutely necessary I'd side with the hospital. Granted the doctors wanted to do what was in the child's "best interests" and I'm sure the children are better off with healthy blood being pumped into their veins, but if the kids could've managed without it then the parents have a reasonable beef with the hospital.

I don't drink coffee, and even if I did that comment has no place in this argument. Parents have no right to refuse medical treatment for their children based off of irrational religious beliefs. The doctors did the right thing and saved 3 lives. And you can't bring the afterlife argument into this, because like all religious arguments it's based off the supernatural and therefore is unscientifically testible and has no merit.

You have no right to make another person suffer, especially little children, by refusing medical treatment because of your beliefs. It is immoral and unethical. Any parent who does so doesn't deserve to be a parent and should have their children taken away from them immediatly. If the parent's refusal of medical treatment led to one or more of their children dying, then they should be strung up on murder charges.

One last thing. You call yourself an atheist but you're just a christofacist in disguise.

*edit*

I come from the Stardestroyer.net school of debating. If you can't handle me calling a dickhead a dickhead then get out of the thread.

Feel free to save the name-calling for the Flameboard, Sirjarvis.

I don't agree with the parents' refusal to deny blood transfusions, but I understand it. What I don't understand is this knee-jerk assumption that they they don't care about their children. Their priorities are clearly different from yours and mine, but it's still their call. They feel their children were violated and they want an apology. They should get one. I honestly don't care if it's a sincere apology and the doctors are blowing smoke up their ass to avoid a lawsuit.

One last thing: I don't have to prove my atheism to you.

There's Klingons in the White House!

Hal's an atheist. He's a bit light on Christians since his parent have gone the Born Again route, but he's by no means one of them. Then again atheists who feel a need to be combative with Christians over everything are trying way too fucking hard and embarrassing the rest of us.

As for the topic at hand, I'd side with the doctors. The only sort of "We're sorry" they should offer up is, "We're sorry these kids are burdened with such shitty parents."

This version of your comment (of the 2-3 I've seen today) made me laugh the hardest.

Hali's such a horrible guy for respecting other's decisions, even if he doesn't at all agree with him. God Hali, how could you be such a heartless, understanding, evil, respectful monster?

Take a pill, Jarvis...

IMO, J.W.'s have some serious mental issues. but thats just me. i feel sorry for the kids. now they will probably be that much worse off cause their parents will be telling them they were "violated" as children. thus they will grow up with en even more warped sence of reality.

as for the issue at hand. the prents are within their rights to demand an apology, true. but the doctors still did the right thing i think. stable conditions can change at any moment. pre-mature children are more fragile then rice paper. they took the logical step they felt was needed. and thus may have prevented them from suffering in the future. it was a judgement call. something they have to do on a daily basis.

I'll say it nice and clear.

Religion can go fuck itself if it is going to cause the loss of life.

Edit:

And someone who feels their religion ranks higher than their children's lives needs to go live in a monastery(or other religious buildings) and not have kids.

Jarvis, you can argue a point without name-calling. Do it again and action will be taken. Flamebaiting is NOT tolerated outside of the flameboard.

As for the issue at hand:

Personally, I think the doctors did the right thing. Saving a child's life, by far, trumps religious views.
