Is this piece of equipment really needed? I know that no equip is "needed" but would you as a bard think that another brd isn't trying, or is just gimping the job by not at least attempting to aquire this expensive piece of equipment?

I was saving for this piece, and in the process of saving, the thought came up? Do I really want this piece? I said yes, but thats because I'm a silly Taru.

So I ask you brds, do you think I should do endless farming to get this one piece? Thanks again for any reply's.

I'm not a BRD yet (64 atm) but if you're not a career BRD, then this piece won't make or break you. Yigit body provides the same cast time - and is free if you put some assault time in. SMN can solo Golden Salvage with any other jobs leeching for easy points.

But If you want the other stats feel free to spend the money but if not Yigit is probably your best bet.

Yigit is kinda the same thing but, kinda not. I'm not career by any strecth of my imagination, but having said that I do like to do a great job, a good enough job to make me stick out in say, a sea of Taru's.

So yes I agree that Yigit is a good sub, but does it truely replace Mantel?

Any more input is welcome, please share the your wealth of Knowledge gals and guys.

I know plenty of BRDs with no manteel who still kick ass. It's by no means a must have piece. It's a nice piece sure. But Yigit is a very good and free replacement for it

DEF:42 MP+14 CHR+7 Haste+2% Song spellcasting time -12% - Manteel

DEF:40 Evasion+7 "Magic Atk. Bonus"+5 Song spellcasting time -10% MP recovered while healing +5 Set: Adds "Refresh" effect - Yigit

So your basically paying for 2% haste, 2 defense, 7 CHR and -2% casting time.
 
I have a 75 brd for a long time and don't have either of those pieces. When I used to merit I pulled with my KO on and have never had a problem or complaints

Yigit doesn't give the same -cast time, but it is the next best thing. Neither is required but the -casting time gets really noticeable as you stack it, and the haste noticeably helps with the recasts.

Manteel is the best body piece, but you can easily get by with Yigit. Unless you plan to be playing bard all the time, Yigit will be more than enough.
 
the way i understood it, it was useless outside of the 2% casting time once you "capped" CHR.

if you need haste to help you cast the same song quickly again, wouldnt you just use goliard?
 
Baj, thank you for the reply. Yigit Gomlek would be incredibly nice, considering more than one job can use it.

Unfortunatly for me, I dont have the time (more like lack of people) to do these runs and aquire all the points needed. Maybe in the future, but as absurd as it sounds its actually easier for me to farm, and craft for the gil required.

Having said that I dont want to invest the time/gil if its totally not worth it. I dont plan on being brd full time, but I actually do enjoy the playing the job.

hopefully I'll get some more advice and i'll make a decision. Thank you all for the advice already given.

Well, I know it sounds weird but if you don't plan to get either because of lack of time/money, you could go for a minstrel's coat. It's better than nothing and it's basically free if you go down in SSG.

If you got the chance though, start doing some random assaults when people shout, you'll get to 20k AP one day, it just take a while but it's totally worth it.

Yes, goliard would be better for just the recast on the song; but then you lose the -casting time on your body piece. Manteel is the best because it has both on it already.
 
lullaby, req, therondy, ect casting time are so small, wouldnt matter. what i was driving at
 
Yes its needed. Buy one of my manteels!
 
tari you coulda asked me you silly goose. no manteel is not needed i'd suggest either getting yigit or do what i do and settle for Minstrel's Coat.

If you can hit 110 CHR /whm, focus on skill for buffs and magic acc/chr for debuffs. The above spells work very well with (starting from easiest to hardest to obtain) ACP body with Macc+4 (has chr+5) the ebon brd body (CHR+4 macc+3 with fastcast+) and the Shadow/Valkyrie's Coat with Magic acc+10/+11 respectfully.

Not to mention...you are a bard, you go doodlydoo on your flute and people love you. Having the top notch gear isn't needed, it's not a bad idea either, but!

Minstrel's Coat would probably be best if time and money are an issue. Low traffic camped nm, drop isn't too bad, I went 1/1. The skill and other stats on it are decent too.

This does, when my computer arrives, that will be in the upper area of the to-do-list. Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. Minstrels for now, and well in the future, someday, Sha'ir Manteel.
 
manteel is 100% needed. there is a noticeable difference between yigit and manteel, and minstrel's coat is simply garbage.

i'd say definitely get it asap. farming the gil shouldnt be hard, easier than farming AP anyways, for a better piece.

No, there's not a noticeable difference. 2% difference in casting speed is nothing. Manteel is replaceable by 3-4 body pieces, it's just for better inventory management if you're lazy/bad with macros.

Anyway, as a future neighbor of yours and main BRD mahself, I figured to toss my two-cents in. Sha'ir Manteel is what you should strive for. Do I have one? No. Have I used one? Yes. Although the casting time difference between a Yigits and the Manteel is really only noticeable by the BRD using it, the CHR boost is mighty fine. However, I wouldn't stress about Manteel as you can get by on a happy little macro-swapping combo of ACP(if you haven't made your PLD or SAM lol with it) Yigits or hell, use Minstrel's and Mahatma.
