Hows the game nowadays? Can people actually get groups with having to be LFG for days at a time? Is the economy better now? Is it easier to make money then it was before?

Any answers would be useful ;)

Same thing.

LFG time is the same as it always was, maybe quicker for DRG now and slower for RNG.

No, economy is 5x worse.

Yes, its easier because everything is very expensive and can be sold for a lot.

Edit : I came back with a new character after 7 months hoping for a change. Trust me, theres nothing in the game that will make you like it now if you didn't like it when you quit. #1 wait for the expansion, or don't waste your time..

Why say no, when it feels so good to say yes?

The economy is fine, the numbers are just higher.

lmao

You know, even if the numbers are harder that should present more of a challenge for someone to play the game. That's the reason why many play video games to begin with, they offer challenges. The only challenge that should prevent you from playing a game is the fact that no matter where you go on games with multiple players, you're gonna run into ignorant people. Just depends on how well you can put up with that, it exists everwhere.. not something you can escape ;_;

Farming for days is a boring challenge. ; ;

lfg times isn't too bad, unless you're my BRD. T.T

As far as money goes, I made a character about 2 weeks ago that I have put maybe 7 hours into so far, and no investment from my main. I was able to make over 200k with no subjobs, good gear and my highest level being 11. I still dont see how people can complain about making money. I mean, I started in Bastok, so I dont even get awsome crystals or silk to sell. Most of my money was made off wind crystal drops from the bees. And a stack or 2 of b. chips.

I know windurst has better drops and in sandy you can level off orcs for crazy fire crystal sales. Bastok has water and earth crystals apleanty. I would imagine that if I had chosen to level in windurst I might have been able to break 600k at this point.

Higher, not harder, smart guy.

Buyers need 10x more gil than they used to, but sellers also earn 10x more than they used to.

It's harder to comprehend, as our feeble minds have difficulty processing numbers once a certain number of digits are involved... but it's really not much different than it used to be.

Oh, and Bigboy - Quadav Backplates off Amethysts, and Grain/Vegetable Seeds of Saplings. Those plus beehive chips actually makes Gustaberg fairly lucrative for a lowbie job. It's how I made my gil for a long time...

Meanwhile the server still produces the same ammount of gil and items, less people craft, and more people buy gil meaning the economy sucks donkey balls.

That's seriously faulty logic imo.

Faulty logic = prices haven't moved in a month now.

Oh, shit, what a terrible economy it is.

they're still 20x higher than when i started. and a solid 10x higher than when i quit ... less than a year ago >.>

Wow .. no growth in an over-inflated economy that can't support it's contributors without them outsourcing for gil ... you're right, everything's fine.

OH NO INFLATION EXISTS

ALERT THE INTERNET!

but... oh... wait... higher prices ALWAYS means an economy is worse... cuz... um...

Wow .. no growth in an over-inflated economy that can't support it's contributors without them outsourcing for gil ... you're right, everything's fine.

NEWS FLASH FOR THE WELL INFORMED...

People bought gil when Leaping Boots were 300k, and 100k was considered a 'pretty good' amount of money - and you could buy as little as 20k at a time.

OMFG, people ONLY buy gil because prices are high!

If that were the case, then sure. But it's not. Try not to bring the McCarthyism in as a way of convincing people otherwise. Not everyone buys gil and I would say most people don't.

This whole "Everyone buys gil and the economy is fucked" non-sense has to stop. It isn't any harder to buy things than it was when I started. It is actually easier to make the money than it was when I started. Simple things that can be farmed solo are worth more and easier to kill than they used to be. People aren't having to compete with GS in the same ways they used to and while prices are on the rise, I have yet to see people actually suffer because of it (aside from those who had been struggling long before). Everything is better from what I can tell. The only people who complain about money are people that refuse to farm or camp anything at all. Even fishing is more profitable than it used to be, and its more fun!

As you've noted Mokk, things have changed, but the squeeky wheel gets the grease and people are more likely to talk about things that bother them than things they like. If your information is comming from other people and flameboard posts then things will look bleak, but for the rest of us, things are going pretty smoothly.

I'm simply pointing out the obvious, if you're looking for the same economy the game had in the beginning or looking for a solution to the economy of the game as it is now you're not going to find it. Aside from that anyone that thinks FFXI is a capitalist economy seriously needs to read up. I fully realize that people have done the RMT thing for as long as the game's been out, however it _is_ at an alltime high.

The point remains, if as many people spent as much time contributing and working together for a common goal as they did getting the wrong ideas as to what the problem really is it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as it is now.

I'm not so much about slamming it as i am asking the question to threads of this nature "If it's so bad why don't more people proactively enhance to community?"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mccarthyism <--- this has nothing to do with the links i provided. It specificly doesn't relate to the economic portions of the links in question. It, in fact, does not relate to economics at all. If anything threads like this promote the witch-hunting and blame games that are threads of this nature. All i'm getting at is the finger pointing is completely moot.

Mokk, the McCarthyism lies in your ranting about gilbuying being at an all time high, and being the cause of the economic changes.

WoW's economy isn't the same as it was in the beginning either; NO MMORPG in existence is immune to inflation. Some handle it better than others (for example, in WoW, any mob can drop valuable rare/magic items randomly - money is stupidly easy to make in WoW), while others handle it very poorly (Anarchy Online for the win; and while it isn't technically MMORPG, if you want to see the ultimate inflation psychosis, check out Diablo II some time - gold is completely worthless in Diablo II online play).

The same people who didn't farm the right mobs, or didn't learn to garden effectively, or didn't learn a craft, still haven't done so today. Thus, their gil earning paths are very limited and/or situational. Those are the types of people that are driven to buy gil - the types of people that wouldn't have any gil to begin with because they're too lazy to be productive.

Hell, I'm guilty of this to an extent myself, however I have never bought gil, and I DO have some methods I can use to earn my keep; I just don't need to that often.

But, you know, you summed it up yourself quite plainly. "The point remains, if as many people spent as much time contributing and working together for a common goal as they did getting the wrong ideas as to what the problem really is it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as it is now." What you want is a Utopian society, where everyone works together and helps each other, not earning money, but earning a place in the framework of society, and earning one's items through merit and selflessness.

I don't feel like going into this too deeply, so I'll give you the blunt version.

Utopia cannot exist in a human society. Hell, most non-humans wouldn't be able to handle it either..

I never said RMT was the cause of the economic difficulties, it's surely a mitigating factor. I'd blame the laziness/greed/polarization of the community for more than i'd lay on RMT.

Everything else i think we see completely eye to eye on.

Edit: surely utopia is soemthing i'd love to see but i'm not so jaded as to think it'll ever happen. However when SE set up the game i'd imagine that's how they thought it might go. That's purely conjecture on my part tho, the world may never know.

What you need to understand about the 'economy' is that it's created by your peers you play around.
There is no sense in bitching about inflation when you in turn would sell or buy things for the current prices.
RMT doesnt give a rats ass about whether or not something sells high or low, so long as its stable and people buy the amounts of gil they need to obtain the items sold by "Gasp" the RMT.

You dont have to buy items people place on the auction house, that is solely and purely 100% your choice to buy something for the price someone offers.
Just because you see a certain price on the price history doesnt mean the prices are stuck there. The people who you play with wish to make money, and they will do so by raising prices on items people are willing to pay for
One thing that irritates me is when people complain about the economy's inflation, Tagrineth is 100% correct, as more gil goes into the hands of players, people have more and are willing to spend more competitively on items other players deem valuable, or useful.
Some people prefer to take the lazy route and purchase gil farmed up and sold by RMT (gilsellers), because its worth it to them dollar value wise.
Most of these people are either lazy, have a job and not enough time to farm wilst enjoying the game, or just plain stupid, trading real money for fake money is just not a good idea. Yet hundreds of people do it. I suppose its up to them to make that decision.

As for prices on items, as I stated previously, if you dont like the price on something, dont pay it. I made a flame a long time ago about people whining about price hikes. My two cents- Dont complain and then rush to buy these items anyways.
Expect even more inflation actually. Another thing that needs to be understood is that farming items still is really no different. If you check, everything has inflated since back in the beginner days when there were maybe at best 1200 people on any given server. 100,000G was considered a damn good amount of money in those days, because prices on all items reflected as much.
It is just as easy to obtain money now as it was when we all first started playing whenever we did.
