Literally less than a mile away from my house.....

Speaking of shark attacks, anyone hear about that one in New Jersey, Long Beach island? It was one of my friend's surfing buddies that got bit. Not to mention I live in the same area, but I can't swim anyway.

Heh.. ya know whats funny. (well, not really since a little girl died in the first attack) I read the paper a few days ago and they had an article about the attack. The next day they had another article about it where they had re-opened the beach and had considered this an "isolated incident". Guess what was on the front page of the paper on the very next day. "Second Shark Attack..." boy the news paper sure is good for some laughs.

On the upside, no deaths in the second attack.

I've lived in NJ for almost half my life, this is the first Shark attack that I've heard of. Nothing happens in Ocean County besides shark attacks and people getting hit by lightning on the beach. :/

lol I've lived in NY right next to Jersey for my whole life. I only go to NJ for the beaches, and the syringes on the beach that one year almost ruined that for me. Oh yeah, I go there for cheap gas too :D

Anyone who would go swimming/standing/fishing (while standing ) in a salt infested body of water is dumb/ballsy...that's just me though. They're there and they do bite...DUH. Might as well go play Russian Roulete (SP?).

That's like saying anyone who drives on the highway or flies on an airplane is dumb/ballsy.

Oceans used to scare the crap out of me. As a kid I remember reaching down to pick up something that looked like a coin at the gulf, and it friggin bit me.

When i was younger my brothers would tease me, bully mean in a way when we were at the beach. I would Boogie boards and they would pull me out all the way to the deep end, you know... where the water is dark and your feet cant touch the floor. So yea... as of today i have a fear of the beach. :?

No it's not for highways, yes it is for airplanes.

Actually, most number-crunchers have shown that your risk of being killed while driving in a car is higher than on a plane. ;) But both of those occur a hell of a lot more often than shark attacks, heh.

My concern with going in the ocean was always jellyfish. I got stung by one when I was 10, in water that came up to my neck when I was sitting down on the sand (so maybe 2, 2 1/2 feet deep). My whole arm swelled up, and I had a fever for 3 days. Worst part about it is you can't see most of them, you only know you've been stung after wherever they hit you feels like it's been dipped in acid.

Shark attacks are so rare it's scary. But people put so much emphasis on them that it makes the water seem dangerous... Drives me insane sometimes. Most sharks don't even LIKE to eat people.

Bull Sharks are something of an exception of course, and they're downright dangerous.

As for jellyfish... ouch. Though on the other hand, it would give you a reason to make friends with R. Kelly. >.>

luther vandross died either today or last night, probably shark attack!

Jellyfish are nasty things too, ugh. I remember when I was like 10, me and my cousins would dig big pits on the beach and bury red jellyfish and hope someone would step in them. Now I don't go to the beach often, since I had gotten a real horrible sunburn one year, I'm now very sensitive to the sun. That's why I'm always so pale, not OMFG GOTH!

I spent 3 years living in Gulf Shores, AL. I had fun but I stayed out the water.
