Should we all level a merit job first?

Just to clarify I was referring to the bhaflu greater colibri camp not the mamools.

I just came back to the game after nearly a year and it's difficult not knowing where all the good camps are since you've never been to some of the zones before. A lot of people came back to ToAU for the first time when transfers opened up so be a little forgiving before you start cussing folks out of camps. :P

Ok, citing some common camps:

SC + MB party (ex: PLD DRK SAM WHM RDM BLM). Go beat up trolls. Seriously. All the complaints about high defense and not very good targets for TP burns (though really good ones can, as an aside, still make it work there) etc. - that's where skillchains and magic bursts shine.

I'd sooner do Abraxes in Lufaise Meadows... that damned stoneskin move of theirs SUCKS ASS. I've done trolls with some of the best skillchainers in the business (Gregedor and Nikoloi) and they're still a bitch to chain over 5.

Those bastards always seem to do it right before a skillchain too.

Oops forgot 30kexp only here on qcdn.
And your posts keep getting dumber. Fighting mobs that are really annoying, constantly surrounded by blood aggro; for a crappy amount of exp is not worth doing. The only reason to fight qutrubs is to jack off to your damage numbers. Even with a monk-burn they're not worth fighting.

Anyone who's actually fought there knows that Dvucca Isle sucks for exp.

Dvucca might be good for a relic weapon burn PT. Sup nearly 4-6 times normal damage occasionally and continuous level 3 chains.

Dvucca is a very good place with the right members. Its insanely simply to avoid any blood aggro at all, and if thats why its a problem to camp there... Well, you obviously need to work on your ability to locate good camp, or keep the pt together if youre moving about.

Its not just about seeing high damage, theyre just incredibly easy to deal with, and kill.

Talking about the "strategy" and "tactics" of TP burn vs SC party is kind of pointless I think. In all seriousness this is a video game and nothing in it requires you to be a General Patton or Alexander the Great to play it. With the exception of something like Absolute Virtue which people can't figure out, there is nothing remotely complex about playing as far as tactics are concerned. I don't see how setting up SATA and a MB would be considered any more difficult than a TP burn, manaburn, BST soloing, or any other kind of setup you can think of. Like I said before it's mostly just repetiton, timing, player stats vs mob stats, paying attention, a little bit of skill thrown in, and luck. No one is splitting the atom playing the game one way or another.

we're to experienced Soujiro. i picked up on SC's and MB's on my first exp party. but what numbs my mind are the people that i've encountered that cant. and im not talking just ToAU recently. im talking since back when CoP first appeared. i never assume that people can just pick up on the simpleness of this game. cause im just asking to be dissapointed.

Considering that Qutrubs are weak to blunt damage(on top of the 2x damage they normally take), then a monk-only cannon would do the greatest amount of damage to them over any given time frame. Even then, it's not worth the exp.

They take twice the damage, but they have three times the HP; that's called a waste of time.

Lolcohibu, the level 75 samurai who couldn't skill chain for shit.

there are alot of ther places beside ToAU areas thats can get you good xp. Hell i can prolly setup a great pt for the middle of the Range with a coulpe of black mages for skillchains

Conquest Points ftw^^

Not a bad camp for SC + MB parties, you're right. Conceivable for piercing-heavy TP burns as well, though Abraxas are decidedly more murderous (and less squishy) than Greater Colibri.

Regarding Dvucca's Qutrubs, here are the concerns:

- Double damage = more erratic hate than usual. Pretty much *have* to share hate by doing damage, because JAs etc. count for less.

- As Bajaratt pointed out, double damage + triple HP = slower kills. (150% normal kill time, if you do the math.)

- Blood aggro concerns make both roaming and finding a good camp spot difficult.

- The above is compounded by the previously unmentioned point that Qutrubs are immune (or at the very least, so ridiculously resistant that even pimped out debuffers wouldn't be able to sleep them by anything less than sheer luck) to both light and dark based sleeps. Neither Lullaby nor Sleep works on them, and I assume the same is true for the miscellaneous BLU sleeps that work/fail on the same sorts of mobs as either Lullaby or Sleep.

All in all, they do not make for good exp mobs.

Tell me about it. Full VIT gear and those guys still hit me like a Mack truck. It's still fun though :D

I shoot people in the face that say smn is only a healer and a healer only. They base the reason for not letting us join these merit pts cause there jobist and only care about exp and not learning more skills or about other jobs abilities. We have the ability to be a jack of all trades in some areas. Screw your war/mnk/nin burns with a RDM healing(Summoners aren't always proud of it, but we can heal ok and are willing to if you offer merits sometimes). You'll never get better in the "gaming" aspect if you keep yourself that simple minded. All your doing is being good at gaining exp. But by these parties you lack the skills to work effectively with other jobs which could make you fail in the future. 5 blms and a rdm in a party learn no self control. They wonder at times when at fafnir why they pull hate and die with opening with a Burst II.

I disagree with pretty much everything you said - being a "jack of all trades" doesn't really help when you want quick xp.. having someone that isn't quite a healer, isn't quite a DD, isn't quite anything specialized won't exactly help a burn or even non-burn party for fast xp. It's got nothing to do with learning how to play with others or not knowing what a SMN is capable of - it's just not the best job choice out there when there are other more specific jobs that get the important tasks i.e. healing, refreshing, damage dealing and tanking to choose over a jack of all trades kinda job. When making parties I, as PLD, typically avoid summoners if I can find either a white or red mage. IF I can't find either, that's when I'll resort to a SMN as the main healer with either a bard or corsair for the refresh. Mebbe that's just me but I doubt it.. just from personal experience having a jack of all trades is kinda worthless for an xp party. (I totally just ragged on all you summoners).

And any blm that opens w/ a burst2 and instantly dies.. unless you're in dynamis or somethin fighting statues - probably bought the account and has no idea what they're doing ^^ /blist {can I have it?}

You contradicted yourself in 2 sentences and basically backed what I'm saying. Nice!

hay guys, i heard u can get past chain10 in sky!!!!

Since when did this thread turn into a discussion on good places to exp? Quit talking about that and invite my lolddpld to a merit party.

It was always about how/where you could get experience points. The question is, should everyone level a cannon job or should they stick with jobs they enjoy and still get decent exp? A non-cannon in a cannon camp is wasting the camp, so naturally the topic would lead to where can a non-cannon go to reach it's potential for exp.

Excuse me but i've been wondering this for a while..
What exactly is the big difference between playing your non cannon job in a mediocre exp party and playing it in sky/dynamis/assault/ect?
It's almost the exact same experience! I'm not missing out on the "fun" of a mediocre non cannon party because I'm already doing essentially the same thing in endgame on my thf. Sky farming for despot/ulli/SC/water is nothing more than a glorified exp party. I'm not missing out on anything and once that farming is done i've gained a decent amount of exp for buffer/merits anyway.
The only difference I can really see is that you are doing it with random people this time and there are less people to talk to.

i personally have to say i agree with you on this aspect. on average i had a much easier time keeping a NIN alive VS a pld in an exp party. and i had more fun with NIN tanks cause shadows bought me the time i needed to buff everyone and get back out of AoE range (where aplicable). unless the pld was above average i was stuck in healing mode when i had to heal for pld tanks.
