Shout Box?

Hey Sculli, have you considered the shout box thing (chat box) for the site? I know that some believe this reduces the site to nothing but an Instant messanger...but how about you put some restrictions on it or something. Say you can only have so many "shouts" a day...or something like that. To help reduce the use of it and to keep people posting instead of only using this.

just some food for thought :wink:
 
For the time being there will be no shoutbox. There are plenty of instant messenger applications, I highly recommend Trillian.
 
The sites traffic isnt really overly high for a shoutbox and replies are still pretty fast on the forums. plus a shout box needs to be put onto a webpage and thet may result in people just using the box rather then floating into the forums.
 
not necessarily. On the forum my LS were on prior to this we had one and it did not keep us out of the forums. Just while we were on a short break from work or class we'd log on and chat a little about the game or just bullshit w/ each other...it really helped tighten our group and build a stronger community I feel.
 
plus...when i'm bored like now...and have read most of the recent posts and put in my input, I see that there are other members on and I just want to talk to them instead of waiting for them to read a posts and post on it...I think if I continue i'll just be rambling so I'm done. Peace :wink:
 
could even go better and get a mIRC channel going :P and then have a web based java client going for the buggas who dont use irc clients

its real time chat. rather then the 10 seconds auto refresh. no i am not being sarcastic.
 
That would take alot of modification to the forums PHP and I am not sure if sculli has zee technology to do that, shout boxes are normally ot placed into forums but onto a main webpage.
