Welp, i'm a lvl 59 rng now, I want to know in what way I can make Sidewinder/slugshot more accurate and stronger. I have 20 agi, 8 str, and +60 r.acc. I usually eat Tuna, Bream and Squid Suish for +15% R.acc. I just want to know what else I could use to help out :3

Well subing War helps with damage but can gimp acc (no duel knifes), but apart from that i cant think of anything else at the moment.

There are a few ways to make sidewinder damage more powerful. The majority of the time, the trade off will be your accuracy. You can sub NIN and eat attack food for bigger WS dmg, but typically your accuracy will take a hit. You can sub WAR and eat sushi, and have similar results to eating attack food on NIN sub. Those are a couple of your options, though unfortunately unless you have a BRD, chances are you will have to sacrifice some accuracy for power, or vice versa. Hope this helps!

Fire your Sidewinder/Slug at "sweet spot" will give you the best damage output; use Sharpshot before hand will increase your WS accuracy.

I beleive Sidewinder is a 4 hit WS so you would probably do the same thing WAR does for Rampage: Lots of accuracy, remove accuracy and add damage until you find a good middle ground.

Simple answer, I'm suprised nobody's told you...

Don't use Sidewinder at 100% TP unless you like to miss. It's got -20 ranged accuracy or so at 100%, and higher TP reduces that. Wait until 120, 150, maybe 170 if you're missing a lot that day, before firing.

What Mai said is very helpful.
I'm only lv54 rng, and haven't played it for about 8 months.

But that is the one thing I remember, anything under 140% tp was pretty much a risk. Missed often.
But since rng usually build tp fast, or atleast used to pre nerf, getting over 140 shouldn't hurt the exp.

As a 1-69 Sam/Rng I had 35 Racc and 6 Agi and used Squid Sushi +1.
Levels 57-60, the levels i used to get used to SW I fired SW mostly with Sharpshot with 150+TP. I would hit at least 65% of the time and 45% without Sharpshot.
Levels 60-69 SW could be fired at 100 tp with Sharpshot and hit 3/4 times a fight(If I had a PLD tank). I used to fire SW on mobes with out high evasion without Sharpshot.
SW is best shot at 150+-TP on mobs with lower evasion(for example mage gobs in Gustav).
If your fighting It++ mobs with high agi like Courels in Onzozo its safer to SW 200+ without SS and 150+ with SS. Its like trying to make Barrage hit all 5 arrows.

I never leveled ranger past 50, but I partied in mostly ammo burn set ups (4 Sidewinders/SlugShot shooters and 2 Healers). I usually fire SW 3-4 with 100tp and hit 75% of the time. Rangers would save up til about 200% and shoot 1-2 times.

rng/war on windower draw ditance.dll
PCC AM+1 AFbody AF head Noct+1 hands strider feet (helps getting to good spot for WS faster) and use red curry at 140%-200% TP and preety much owns u can pop into the 500-600s Low lv i never new about red curry till Eor said i should try it out

sub war, get voyager sallet, shikaree aketon, and fire staff will help. Now, you might want to swap the jse out for af body to help with acc if that becomes a problem, but if its vt-it mobs, you will do some pretty sweet barrages and sidewinders. also, use sole sushi for the str.

Quick question, does Dex do anything for me at all?

Remember when I missed like 12 sidewinders in one night?

As far as I know, it does nothing except increase accuracy on your melee attacks.

I leveled ranger way before the nerf, but if I used sushi I could land damn near any Sidewinder at any level TP, and although that seems good, I parsed out better with Yellow curry and R Acc stacked with /Nin sub. Right now, the best combo I've had best results with is Str stacked on every piece and using Red Curry, but these are on VT mobs.

Not really much input I can give since I was like Lv 74 when we got nerfed. :/

First off, my ranger is lvl 24. I leveled that bit before the nerf, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

There is a food that raises both Racc and Ratt. Flounder Meuniere. It also gives you enmity -3, which is handy for a ranger. I used that while I was lvling.

Now to make Sidewinder or Slugshot More powerful, first you have to know how the damage is calculated. The short answer is all bow skills rely on your Str and your agi, all gun skills rely on your agility.

The damage Calculation for those skills inparticular looks like this at lvl 59.

Sidewinder
({Damage of your weapon} + {[your Str - Targets Vit] + 8}*2 + {[str*0.16]+[agi*.25]}*.91) (Acc TP modifier fits in here somewhere)* ([your att]-[targets def])

Slugshut
({Damage of your weapon} + {[your Str - Targets Vit] + 8}*2 + {[agi*.30]*.91}) (AccTP modifier fits in here somewhere)* ([your att]-[targets def])

With both of those skills, The more TP you have, the more Accurate it gets.
Also, you'll notice with bows, Str and Agi are modifiers, and with guns, it's just Agi.

The WS info all came from here if ya wanna check it out yourself.

dex governs the rate of rapid shot. (which is variable btw, one rapid shot may be slightly faster or slower than the next, with the same weapon.)

dex helps decide
1. when you rapid shot at all
2. to what degree.

dont bother worrying about that till 75 and you get to merit rapid thou, till then its a waste of possible accy or str/attk.

also im surprised (or mayhap i missed it) that noone suggestd sole sushi instead of squid as a bow rng using rng accy food.

honestly thou, since the nerf, ive found /nin to be a waste of time and gil.

/nin and eat attk and damage is "ok". eat sushi and its gonna get owned by a mnk or war/nin (for nothing save the cost of their food and time)

/war + sushi + zerk nets you numbers relitive to /nin with attk food, but with lesser accy..so not much point there either.

/war with attk food and zerk. there we go. course all the heavy hitting in the world doesnt mean anything if you cant land a hit right? so we need a brd.
failing that dont slug unless you have 150tp. Hell, if you can do both brd+150tp.

you can play around with stat sets all you like, but im pretty sure youll find generally rng accy Gear to be the better (or at least more consistent) way to go at least until lv70 when you get you last Accy JT. from 70-> you will notice you get a little more leeway in the "feel" of your WS landing alot more reliably.
