I guess I'm not going to school like I was planning to.

We talked with the loan advisor tonight, finally. After waiting for a month for my parents to make a decision about cosigning for me. A month of me completely kissing ass, and doing every little thing they asked of me. A month of working my ass off at two jobs, to try and get some of my bills taken care of, so they'd see I was serious about something, for once.

We put the application through, and it denied them as a cosigner, because they had to file for bankruptcy 7 years ago when my mom relapsed and her leukemia(sp?) came back.

There is always the chance of asking someone else to cosign for me, but I couldn't do that. Only other people I could think to ask are my grandparents, and, I don't feel right asking my grandparents for that kind of support.

So, I guess.. I dunno where to go from here. It sucks..

sorry to hear that it didn't work out iso.

but who needs that fancy book-learnin anyhow
:rtfm:

look at me i've never been to college and i'm a teacher at a private school.

but you never know another chance may come up and you could be skipping

classes in no time.

I took a year off from classes. Getting back in was a huge ordeal, between paying bills, reapplying for everything, and working my way back into the system.

I wanted to get back for the fall, but that didn't work out... which sucked. So I figured things out, busted my ass for a few months and went back this semester. School sucks as much as it did before, but it feels great being back.

If you really want it, you'll find a way. There are plenty of other options out there for loans and whatnot. You may not get the best interest rates/payment plans/etc, but it might be worth it for you. Which type of loan did you get rejected for?

Went thru a company called Next Student Loans. It would have been a loan for school, room/board, books etc. Moink thinks it has to do with the amount that they applied for but in the past it's given options for lesser amounts if not approved, ya know?

Guy on the phone made a huge deal about my parent's bankruptcy, though it was almost 8 years ago, and almost off their credit hitory.

There are a few more options for loans, but I don't know how well it's going to go. I have no credit history really, and what I have is meh.. and I have a feeling any other private loan companies are gna be the same way as this, about their bankruptcy.

Idk, was very dissappointing when i was looking forward to getting enrolled and getting back to school finally, after a year and a half of being out.

Believe me, I know how it is. But you'll get back in eventually.

Applying for a loan to cover all expenses is tough as well. Between FAFSA and all that crap there's bound to be something to cover you. I'll try to find the list of loan companies I had when I applied for loans.

Awe Iso ;_; I was pullin for ya too! Sometimes you have to humble yourself, even to family. Let it be your grandparents choice, the worst they could do is say no... ya know?

Have you tried applying for a loan directly through the school? Usually they are able to help you out some if the money will be going to them.

Iso was talking about doing something like 25 credit hours this semester when I read that my jaw hit the floor. This sucks Iso it would have been cool to have you in IL if you really got your stuff together then transfered to Columbia.

PS: It's snowing here again. :p

I tried, believe me, that's the first thing I did. But i don't have enough credit history and what I do have is meh. So they didn't approve me.

I'm going to talk to advisor at AIU today and see what she think our next course of action should be. Though, I'm pretty fuckin sure, it doesn't include being in classes this semester.

Romper, coming back to IL is still in the plans Columbia or not. It's just a matter of time.

Awwww Iso I'm sorry to hear about this. :( No matter what, keep practicing on your own. Keeping improving yourself and you can always go to school later. It is hard when you don't have much credit to your name. I hope that you can somehow manage to get a loan to go to college. If not, I recommend getting a low limit credit card to help build up credit. Charge small things on it and pay it off before the grace period. That's what I did to build up my credit. At least that way you can make some progress to try for it later if you can't now.

Go get it girl! I'm cheering for you!

What about the military? Don't many branches offer some sort of financial aid or free education?

absolutely not. I respect the people in the military have lots of friends who took this route; however i don't like the military, so I don't think I would ultimately benefit from the military.

Awww Iso, very sorry to hear about that. I know you were very excited. Keep your chin up though, just because you might not be returning now, I'm sure you will soon. Who knows? Just not the right time, maybe something better will come out of the delay!

There are other options besides pulling out loans.

If you have not filled out this yet: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
This posted in bold on the site: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/hera.htm

http://www.fastweb.com/ (avoid anything that requires you to pay for the application or asks for any kind of money transfer) Usually, most of these require writing a paper which is not too traumatic. ;p

The thing about the loan company not approving because of bankruptcy seems odd. It is probably a good thing that they did not accept the application. I also believe you might be entitled to a grant because of the bankruptcy record. Not sure but I do remember a friend of mine being able to receive money because of that. Do the research and good luck.

the moment i read Khidir's post the words "no" jumped in front of my eyes. Iso is to free spirited for the military. She would hate it from start to finish.

Have you tried online classes Iso? thats what im doing. Finacial Aid was pretty easy, although lengthy, to do.

*Edit*
FAFSA is what i went through to get FA for college. thanx Ranpha for posting that.

I'm working with my admin at school, she thinks we can get something figured out in time, though I am skeptical (semester starts in like 3 weeks.). Just gonna see what happens and do what I can to get into school.

Though I've been thinking about just waiting until I'm in a better position financially, that I wouldn't need my parents help so much. (read: I want to gtfo of there so I can actually have any sort of privacy lol)

It's really all up in the air at this point. I'm a little disappointed that it may not happen, but I know what I want to do now at least, and I think it'll happen one way or another.

/end ramble

Iso you should really consider Zalts suggestion if you haven't already. Although the institutions may not be as widely recognized on line classes are becoming more and more valuable than full time college studies in the workplace. Specific courses for specific industries!

I know this will come around for you, life tends to have a way of unraveling the messes it creates for us.

This is an option I could use for the 2-3 Gen Ed courses I have left, but I don't think it would be something that I couls use to take my core major classes. It's alot of hands on, figure drawing, 2d design, webdesign etc..

Well if you haven't already, look into it! You never know what may be available out there. Plus as far as I know you can have online contact with professors, I think. I only took two online courses and they were in no way related to arts and technology.
