Silent Hill - The Movie - spoilers within!

rone it a good movie you dotn have to had play any of the games to enjoy the film. film critics usually read to much into films and in the case of this 1 if you read way to much into it your gonna leave confuse. basically cuz like the game the movie leave alot of stuff up to you. like alot of ppl think rose die at the start and there for a ghost at the end. while other ppl dont think that and just belive she under alyssan influence toward the end.other belive she a moster since she make this phone call near the end which is weird and all static like. it a dreamer movie. it leave you with alot of stuff for you to basically play with after it done. if it suck hey not a big lost only 8 bucks lol.

Penny Arcade's review is a joke if you're a fan of the series.

All the people I went to see the movie with are Silent Hill fans and we all absolutely adored it. In fact I can't wait to see it again.

I've played the first three games and I saw the movie with Neyla over the weekend. I enjoyed myself; I didn't have high hopes for it, but it turned out fine. It was gruesome and scary and captured a lot of the stuff I liked about the games, which are primarily about atmosphere anyway.

I was also pleased to have a movie which treated West Virginia pretty well. We weren't portrayed as ignorant, slack-jawed yokels... other than the crazy cult people

I sorta got cracked up after Pyramid Head attacks Rose and Cybil by stabbing through the door. When he leaves, Rose says "We're going to be okay. We'll get through this." All I could think was "What the hell gives you that idea?"

The climax in the church was nifty, too.

All I could think of during that scene was: "This would be the appropriate time for you two ladies to make out!"

Seriously, if it would have happened, there would have been no better time ..., and even though my avatar granny doesn't look it, she too would have approved.

Hahaha...So I wasn't the only one...

Hey Sculli, I found this on wikipedia. Further insight into the character of Pyramid Head.

His role appears to be that of a hunter of the cultists butchering any he comes into contact with; unlike the other monsters he doesn't appear to be representative of any part of Sharon/Alessa entity psyche. Based on the theories of what it is that Pyramid Head symbolizes in the second game, it can be assumed that he is a manifestation of the guilt that Dahlia Gillespie carries regarding the burning and near death of her daughter Alessa, and like how James (Silent Hill 2) tortures himself through the two deaths of Maria, Dahlia somewhat expresses this with the disrobing and skinning of the character Anna, which crudely represents the loss of skin that Alessa goes through, though whether this is masochistic to Dhalia is questionable, as she is clearly capable of controlling the appearance of Pyramid Head. Also, it is possible to assume that the reason why Pyramid Head retains his masculine appearance is not only for homage to the game (as opposed to Pyramid Head representing Dahlia in some way so that it is more of a direct representation of her guilt), but to also represent the fact that Alessa is fatherless, so quite possibly related to Dahlia's guilt for the lack of the father figure and her inability to protect Alessa from the sexual assault of the janitor.

and that all that you said means what? the dimension silent hill works around? first off noone really know that but the ppl who made the games. in almost all silent hills games with the exeption of 1 and 3 silent hill itself is changer new aspect to the story is added.and unlike you im not gonna say "im not gonna tell you go play the game." that a cheap answer. if we are wrong please tell us why.

part 1 and the movie.
Both the movie and the first game are grounded in the premise that a young girl (Alessa), was badly burned and her torment manifested by twisting the reality of Silent Hill into the nightmarish reality portrayed in the movie.

In the games, the reason behind her burning was that it was part of the ceremony used by the mysterious cult in Silent Hill to bring about the rebirth of their god, who Alessa would be the mother of. Dahlia is directly responsible for willfully burning her daughter. Alessa actually survives the burning and lives on in an unhealing state, induced by Dahlia and a fellow cult member who is a doctor. Though not stated outright, it's implied that the combination of her torment, the natural power she posesses as the 'mother of god' and some rare, powerful drug produced in Silent Hill combine to allow her nightmares to twist reality.

There are four possible endings in the orignal game, and my impression is that the movie has an ending that would be seen as the 'bad' ending from the game. Cybil is posessed and you're forced to kill her, and Alessa becomes posessed by the 'god' that she births and you're forced to kill her as well. Despaired over his loss, Harry does not esape the hell of Silent Hill, and the game ends on a shot of Harry dead behind the wheel of his car. The parallel I'd draw here is that Cybil is obviously killed, and Rose does not really save her daughter, but just helps Alessa get her revenge.

The best ending is Cybil survives, the 'god' that Alessa gives birth to is prevented from posessing her, and can be killed safely, letting Alessa 'reincarnate' one more time as a baby, which Harry and Cybil take with them away from Silent Hill. The best ending leads to the sequel, Silent Hill 3, where the daughter is now older and the cult is trying again to have her give birth to their god. The implication is that Harry definitely survived his experience in Silent Hill, and is back in the 'real world'.

Silent Hill 2 and 4 are set in or tied to Silent Hill, but are not directly tied to the story in 1 and 3. However, a lot of the monsters from 2 were used in the movie. In 2, the idea is that Silent Hill's power goes beyond Alessa's condition. The place has the power to manifest a person's inner demons, with a lot of the monsters being symbollic of the main character's guilt over his relationship with his wife. in part 2 new aspect of the game come into play, there no allyssan yet silent hill still has both the real the foggy and the outworld the 3 realms mention ealier.

then part 4 introduces a new aspect to the entire story line. the main character in silent hill 4 henry lives in South Ashfield, a town half a day's drive away from Silent Hill. in this game we get to see a diff spin on the entire allyssan thing with a serial killer name walter who he himself has the same dimension creating ability as allyssan. which once again give prove to the entire diff dimensions. in this game you also start to notice the influence of silent hill itself on the out side world. which now changes the entire concept of the game. in part 4 you dont even have to be in silent hill to be consume by it evil. The themes in the 4th game are very tightly tied to motherhood and birth, in the way that the 2nd is tied to masochism.

so saying go play atleats the first 1 is a dumb comment the movie itself is base on all aspect of silent hill. they involve alot of the demons and concepts from part 2 and when PH come out and touches the wall that red stuff thingy that spread about that taken diretly from part 4. the only game which doesnt really influnce the movie much is part 3.

like i said earlier what make silent hill story line so great is that silent hill itself is still a mystery. yes we do learn something about the town but then, it completly changes/new info is giving out which explain pass event but bring about lot of new possiblity's. the games are 1 of my fav because that fact it leave alot of room for your own interpretation of what going on and so forth.

I beg to differ. Part one explains all deminsional questions and everything about Silent hill... end of discussion.

Guess I'll have to go see it after all. I commonly enjoy many of the games PA shoots down, so not really a big surprise.

I just went and saw this tonight and oh man..

This movie is just pure awesome. I loved everything.

Best part: Alessa's revenge. Oh my fucking god this rocked. Wasn't even expecting it and it just owned so hard.

i finally got to see this, this past saturday and i LOVED it.
having played and payed attention to all the silent hills since they came out, i really got into this.
This movie is more than a movie, its an expierience. They really do make you feel like your there.

Pyramid head. FUCK YEAH!!! ripped that bitch a new one lol.

I understood the movie perfectly, tho my friend who sat with me and never played the games just gave me a "what the fuck did that ending mean!?" at the end.

sculli, Silent hill 1 i know of is at least on PC.
not sure on 2-4.

when rose walks into the church at the end and that dude slaps her,
am i the only one who thought the words "SHUT THE HELL UP BITCH!" when that dude punched her in the face?!
XD

I will NEVER understand why the butch cop didn't get into the elevator.... That was so horrable, it actually kinda made me not care when she got burned to death. A little intelligence would have gone a long way.

I also don't understand why when the cop shot the acid vomitting fiend, the main chick ran away. Hey, finding my daughter would be fairly important, but so would not being alone in fucking silent hill.

I'm following the gun.

All-in-All...it was just OK.

well. The elevator wouldnt go down if the demon didnt want who was in it.
Cybil knew this, cybil is a smart woman. The demon wasnt going to accept cybil if she got inside the thing.
and im sure she wouldnt have passed the test when she got there if she did.
she woulda died either way.

You sure about one? I'd love to find that though I've never saw it ported to anything. However, three and four were both ported to PC and are now dirt cheap.

One wasn't ported to PC as far as I know. 2-4 have been ported. My friend has SH2 on his computer right now. You could probably get the original through on an emulator.
