Well I'm sitting there in this PT with a rank 3 Mithra THF. She started at 32 and ended at 34 in Citadel. A few things I noticed.

1) She never onced pulled a link.
2) She had the best gear, she had hairpin, leaping boots, ext.
3) She had an alternative sword allowing for fast blade until getting Viper Bite.

It pains me that I can't remember her name, but if I can I will post it later.

Now let me tell you about some other THFs I've partied with lately. All rank 5s+. All of them useless. No food, just dagger pre 33, no good gears.

Last night I PTed with Wackygamer, rank 6, was 32 BLM. Elvaan.
He had an astral ring, a +2 dex ring. He had half a seer's set, and no pants or belt. He used a staff(a low level one). No food, even though apple pies are only a fricking 1k/stack at this moment.

Now here's what set me off. I hear Wackygamer talking crap about his last PT. These bunch of noobs I'm sure had gear better than him. I mean... a solid wand is what, 5k? Some int rings can't be more than 10k. Never seen a piece of seer's set less than 10k. I ask him about it, and he says well your a Taru of course you'll have better stats than me.
Duh! That's why you need decent gear. I don't know about most BLMs, but being outdamaged by a RDM would put me to some serious shame, specially when they're freaking focused on MND gear and using up their rings slots for astrals.
The answer? "I'm not as rich as you Fire."
What the hell? I could assemble a better setup than he has for 100k! The obvious answer is this is his subjob, and he's just leeching exp.
While all this is going on, rank 10 Ninja lvl 32 Devifoxx. Nibbles ask him where all his gear is. Meaning his rings, neck piece, earrings.
The answer? "This is just my subjob."
I don't know about all of you, when you're rank 10 and rank 3s are way better equipped than you, I think there's something to be said.

Things I won't do>
1. Call someone a noob based on their rank.
2. Bother a newer player about expensive gears.

Things I will do>
1. Call someone a leech based on their obvious means versus output.
2. Get pissed off and make an angry message board rant about the situation.

In closing, noob is a state of mind people, not a rank or level. And I'm sure as hell having better experiences with newer players who give a shit than older ones who want to just leech exp. I mean come on, it looks like some of these guys just scraped together whatever they could find in their fricking mog house.

But that's just what set me off, the idea that because they had higher level jobs they were better players, even when they failed to give a damn about their current one.

I can understand that.. now.. I am not taking my warrior past 18... maybe up to 37 for future jobs.. but I'm trying to get the best I can for it... to be a DD Warrior.. I dun really wanna be a tank >< but I do bring tanking gear with me.. you know.. just incase... and I'm rank 9 but ya..anyways... it's not hard to get better gear at earlier levels.. things like empy pin, leaping boots.. that stuff.. that's a pain >< but I'm still gonna try.. however right now I only care about giving an empy pin to someone else since he'll be using more than I will be anytime soon

Rank stopped meaning anything awhile ago... The way I see it is that anybody and their cousin can take a job to 60 easy, once your at 60 its easy enough to leach the more basic rank parties. So many sloppy players in the game its sad/annoying.

Its because the n00bs learned if they where running around as level 50 Rank 1, people knew they where a n00b.

i know what you mean. No matter what job im playing i always try to buy the best gear for it, even if it is my subjob. If you look at my gear for any of my jobs, its at least decent, no less.

There is a point to where no matter how good of gear you have, if your a crappy player it doesn't help. still, that doesn't give you the right to say, oo i am a 70+, my gear doesn't matter because i've played the game so long. I'll be good no matter what. And i always buy food, it makes things go so much faster :-D

*edit* i'd also like to point out that a lot of players these days are going from rank 1-10 in all 3 cities, its possible that this person was just getting ranks for a diff city.

Worse thing is that those people that u mentioned are from QCDN and moo about bad parties as well.

Since when does a job being your subjob make it so that you can ruin exp for someone who might be leveling their main? Please, dont be a fucking selfish asshole.

Thank you

I just wanna clarify in case you get the wrong idea, I had PT last night with Lanien and Antra with a THF in it. I'm not talking about you guys, was a good PT and no complaints. Talking about other PTs I've been in lately with higher level players on low jobs.

hmmmmmmm
cripey gear......
if EVVVEEERRRRRRR i go back to leveling my whm that 1 more level so its actually a capped sub, i will wear the WORST gear!!!!!!
thatll show you firestreak.... ill never level it!!!!
muwahahahahaaaaaaa

as for rank, i dont discriminate against the low ranked, meaning i wont not party with them and stuff, but i take rank more as a warning. If someones rank 10 and i don't know who they are, i'd figure theyre JP :P
If someone is low rank i will keep my nooboscope handy just in case its needed.

But i must admit, alot of level 75s these days are pretty newbie.

It honestly depends, I can cite a million examples supporting or disagreeing with your argument.

For my subjobs, if I don't have the best equipment, I at least use food. I don't have wonderful gear on my WHM, my sub that I hate playing, but I have a decent amount of MND+ and MP+ and use Rolanberry Pies (50 MP+ at level 25? hell yes) or Sweet Rice Cakes (Minor MP boost, but the hMP helps a TON), depending on prices (in bazaars in Jeuno). At level 25, there isn't much that's very good for WHM in the body, gloves, boots, or pants slot; I'm holding out for seer's gear. So I guess my point is, use food! It's yummy!

I dont see whats so hard about buying the best gear for your subjob... I mean you will be selling is back in such a short time you wont be losing any money.. chances are the way inflation is going you are only set to make money.

i can be lvl 75 sam being rank 1 windurst or bastok with about 10,000 gil

because, rank is PURCHASEABLE. you can go out, using the gil you bought on IGE and basically pay a party to do everything from rank 1 upwards (to at least 5, far as i am now). unless i'm mistaken i think it's Phraust who has a little mule at like rank 8.

buying new equips sucks.
big problem with equips though is that it takes up inventory space.

yeah sure i can mule stuff, but i can only mule so much.

My blackmage has alot of equips. 2 shields, 2 ele staves (yeah screw all 8, i dont got invent space), 1 wand, 1scythe, 1 mythic staff.
Then i got AF hat, optical hat, emp hairpin (ok those last 2 not so much for my blm)
bah im lazy to think up the rest of my equips right now....
point being, i have alot of RARE/EX. i have equips for promathia missions, at least 2 equips for most slots on my blm. i have a bunch of equips for thief, i have lower level equips for theif going into promathia capped areas. I have nin equips (ok those are mostly muled). Inventory space usually flies around 54/55 for me. If i cant manage to fully clothe my whm (bad example since i got seers gear), then i simply wont level it^^

My whitemage will forever be 1 level low.

MUWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

ya.. drew brings that point... I have so much crap in my mog house and inventory >< and my mule has lots of crap that needs selling from synthesis >< so ya.. I am trying to sell off a lot but I have lots of equipment for things >< and going to be getting more :\

I made my first mule this weekend...

...I started leveling it... ><
My friends always laugh at me cuz I'm like mule-phobic or something. But I made this cute little Taru... and THF right now is just frustrating the crap outta me cuz the 10k of xp that I've gotten on 71 is from weapon trials... /sigh. So I think I've made my little mule a second character...

As for the thread topic itself, I remember being THF45, and was in a PT in CN and the party I was in was talking about rank, and how they thought a NA at Rank 3 didn't mean something anymore and Rank 5 was something that stood out more in the person's abilities. And I agreed with that and the following weekend a couple friends of mine and I went to rank 5. Feeling better about things. I'll level subs or WHM on my main character and after I get invite I usually go /anon. I just want to sit back and see how other higher level jobs leveling lower jobs act and what they do.

Sad really... I'd have to agree with the person who started this thread that some people take their subjob... toss on some crap EQ and not have rings or earrings or back pieces. And all I can really do is scratch my head. Cuz it's like... well.. o... k... a... y...

And then I look at my moghouse praying that one day I'll have enough fame to do my last mog house quest so I can have my big huge safe. Cuz I'm outta storage, I have two sets of gear for my nin already plus all my old stuff for THF that I don't wanna toss (AF) and now my gear for leveling WAR. Can no longer level WHM or BLM cuz I had to sell all that gear for making room.

/sigh.

Not only is rank easily attainable.. but pretty much it doesn't take too many higher level characters to help walk some level 30 all the way up to getting rank 5. It's like Power leveling. These new people get power leveled and learn nothing of their jobs since they were babied through the leveling process and don't really know how to perform or act.

Rank stopped meaning anything when I was level 27 with rank 5 almost done. You get the whole LS alliences that go do them all in one night, and its really not that hard. I joined a new LS a few months back, and I saw everyone pre-level 30s with rank 5, and I sat there wondering what the hell was up.

My friend, on his second charecter, now a level 42 theif, is still rank1, he just dont care. But look at his gear, his playing style, and you will know that he is not that new.

I parteid with a JP whm, level 8, no subjob, she never missed a cure. From her style, I could easily tell that this was not her 1st charecter. She would Dia at the begining of every fight, made sure to control hate, and used chocolate to help her recover MP.

To sum up, rank stopped meaning anything in this game a long time ago. Look at most the NA and they are rank 5. I saw a level 73WHM with rank 5 still, and when I asked why she didnt want to go higher, she said she didnt care.
