School... just can't do it anymore. CANNOT do it!!

I've been in school off and on for about 3 years now, going this semester, sitting another out... and I finally got to a 4-year university (Southern Mississippi), and I'm completely burnt out. I withdrew past the withdrawl date, so I'm going to owe money, and my grades are going to be awful. Please, PLEASE don't let this happen to you!

For now, it appears that I'm going to be cooking at Cracker Barrel full time. I'd love to get a job on a newspaper or something like that to make my money, or hell, even a radio station as a personality, but that's not something you find by looking in the classifieds. Seems like my life's in a downwards spiral and there's nothing I can really DO about it, because school just seems so... pointless to me. I can't handle college anymore at all... it's the same stuff I've been taught before, over and over, it's a waste of my time and money, all for a piece of paper that says I've done the same stuff for about 8 years in a row.

Am I a bad person for quitting college? :-/ I feel awful about it, like 3 years of my life have been completely wasted. I have like a void now... Just thought I'd get this out there because I needed to get it off of my chest, to tell the truth. Not trying to hold a pity party or anything, so please don't take it like that. Just don't let yourself get burnt out on something you thought you'd enjoy... I guess that's all.

Well first off, I found my job in the classifieds and I am a radio personality.

Second, my mom went to college off and on for about 10 years before she finally got her degree.

Third, don't try and do what everyone else is doing just be yourself. Nobody knows you like you so do what you feel comfortable with.

If it takes you 5-10 years to finish college so be it you can progress in a trade until you finish then when you do get your degree you can just take it as a opportunity to get better employment and a sense of job security.

No matter what it won't be easy but hey nobody said it would be.

My advice:

Just stick with it, don't take too many classes and burn yourself out like you did just try doing maybe 8 or less credit hours in a semester.

College was a blast for me but I made the absolute most of it. (parties, chicks, and lots of cool people)

Study groups helped dramatically!!!!

But yeah do it at your pace and nobody elses.

I started in Radio just because I know computers and progressed into a on-air personality.

All is well and I continue to take at least one class per semester until I finish my next degree.

Btw, I studied Botany and Agribusiness Technology which is far away from radio which I work in at the present.

Hope this advice helps.

Take Care,

Mohoso

I've been in and out of college 3 times already and I'm thinking about going back a 4th. I hate college. Hate it! I live a fairly comfortable lifestyle but I am realizing that I have progressed as far as I can in my current field without a degree. (Development Tech.) When I started working here at Roche I was 20 years old and I was veiwed as a smart young man with a lot of potential. I had what people concidered a huge upside. Now that I am 26 my upside has diminished and in a few more years I will have no upside. I'll be a guy that had a lot of potential and squandered it. Also while I have no problem if my future wife (whomever she might end up being) has a carreer but I would like to get myself into a position that she wouldn't have to work.

I work with idiots every day that know less than me but they do have that "piece" of paper. So they make 2x the amount that I do. The job market for the most part respect a piece of paper more so than real life expertise. So now here I am stuck at a decent job. I couldn't leave if I wanted to. There is no way that I could leave here and find a job that only required a high school diploma and get paid what my lifestyle requires me to make. I would move to Phoenix if I could find a job that just paid similar to what I make now. :(

If you can tough it out I will suggest that you do. The older you get the harder it is to go back.

You could try the Military. It offers some Great Experiences. And no that was not Sarcasm.

I did that and loved it.

Unfortunately, in my personal opinion, NOW is not the time to join.

Not with Capt. Crazy at the helm at least.

That is all,

Mohoso

mmm barrel of crack *drool*    cant believe noone noticed it!

I agree with Mohoso there about do what you want, even if you go on and off in college a lot...

You aren't a bad person quitting college, it just means that you aren't interested in what that college offer's or what your field is...You don't want to get into a field of work that you don't like to do...

I'm in pretty much total agreement with Kurgon, and also in a similar situation. I also dropped out of college, and got myself a "decent" factory job.

People I work with are total twits, and yet make the same or more money than I do. The best I'll ever be without a degree is a King Among Idiots, but still an idiot. Honestly I don't know how some of these people even managed to live as long as they have. In my mind I now refer to them as Perma-Noobs.

P.S.--Lol, maybe you should think of college as the Genkai 1 of Life
It's a huge pain in the ass, but you'll never progress in life until you get those Limit Break items

P.P.S.--For those wondering....No, I don't REALLY think of my life in terms of Final Fantasy, honestly, it's true....

Runekane i totally hear ya man. This is my third year and its getting old. Im not gonna quit cause its always been a goal of mine and my parents would slaughter me. Sucks about it is Game design doesnt really need a degree so I could just be wasting 4 years of life. But at least you are having some fun. In reality most people still dont get a degree so its not like you NEED one. Just take a class here and there like other have said...sure it will take a lot longer, but never know when it will give you the extra boost you need.

Game design is one of those fields where if you have that extra penis extension you will get farther....but yeah I guess it also depends on what that degree is in...
