Skilling up Skills

I've been skilling up my ranged puppet in the approximate zone where a player would have that same skill level (that is, with an A- ranking). It has worked so far, and I moved from 37 to 86 in a 3 hour session (I know, ridiculously low, but whatever lol).

I've only soloed on my PUP since I started (currently 66), and hardly ever/not used the ranged puppet, I've been thinking of the daunting task of leveling it up, it's skill is only 60, so it misses so much on like every mob. I'm still not going to bother skilling it till I'm 75. Haha.

I just got a feeling its going to get harder in the later levels with no cure :|
I guess i'll have to level up WHM/RDM too!!
Is there any sort of level breakdown guide, where it tells you what skills cap where?

No level cap guide that I know of, I try and cap my skills as soon as I can, it saves me alot of trouble ^^;

Well, it's fairly rudimentary with the puppet's kills and other players' skills. It's based on the same formula, apparently, that any A- weapon/skill would follow for the master.

Level cap parties are also great for capping severely underleveled skills. I went from 0 ranged skill to 100 in a little under a week cuz most of the pties I was in were level capped, and then I'd just skill up in those zones (Dunes, Qufim). Also, equipping Harlequin head makes it melee w/o having a crippling delay on ranged attacks, so it using Arcuballista more often helps too.

Are you not deploying right next to your mob? Sharpshot frame/head still melees if you deploy nearby, its just that sharpshot/mages like staying where they are when you Deploy and they are inside their functional range. I do this all the time and he gets tons of TP. Now, I don't know if Harle/Sharpshot suffers any penalties to ranged acc/atk, but it does lose 13 levels of skill at 75.

Edit: Thought I'd might throw a bit more in; Using all Sharpshot, Hiko will melee 2-3 times in between each ranged attack with a Turbo Charger attached and one Wind Maneuver.

Also, using a skillcap guide on the Wiki for a job with A- skill in a weapon should pretty much cover where your automaton is at in level.

All skills except Evasion/Parry/Shield/Gaurd can be easily leveled in areas containing the Beastmen such as Beadeux just progress through the areas until you reach mobs that are giving you the skillups. Test the different mobs as you go through when you get a skill up stay there until they start to diminish then move a little bit farther in till you reach new mobs that give skill ups, capping may require you to goto another area but you should be able to get skill ups and small amounts of gil easily.

Been AFKing in quifim shooting worms with my ranger puppet, heard it was good up until 80. The worms do not hurt him at all really with their magic and he takes forever to kill them because they can not run up to him so he melees.

I went from 12-44 in about half an hour-hour this way and was playing CoD5 the entire time. :P Going to move to crabs soon and then have a bst buddy help me out in kuftal for a crab skill up.

The problem now is I am moving to colibri soon and I really wish my ranger puppet was capped...anyone know if the melee puppet will perform well on them?

People don't want you to bring melee puppet. Luckily for me I had a static so I could switch it up, the damage was ok but Ranger puppet outshines melee on birds. especially when Daze is involved.

WHM FRAME ONRY!

I have a static as well, we usually pick up two more, sometimes three if one of us is working/busy.

I will try to have it capped, it is being a pain though lol.

Thought I'd share,

Skilling up magic generally isn't hard, but if you get stuck trying ti skill up, look for courels/toramas. They Para and Silence like mad, single target. Your pup will spam all kinds of cures on you. Just avoid the Lynx mobs and the CoP cats, they got different TP moves, and really fuck your shit up.
