You know why it's hard to cap guard? Nobody let monk tank in exp party beside cannon party which most don't got the skill at the lvl of the mobs to skill up. Few monks in server got high skill b/c they actually spent time skilled it up from weaker to stronger mob or solo all the time. I knew a few got high lvl guarding such as Odhinn (Not sure but guarding alot in ballista), Makzilla (190 or close to 200), Ujio (110-120), and few other. I ballista with them few times, powerful monks. Easy way to skill up guard is monk/pld for extra defense (Sentinel) lower AGI, evasion and tank fast hitting mobs + mages spam cures. Trust me, guarding is so much easier to skill up than parrying. My lvl 45 monk got 45 guarding skill.
Parrying on other hand is slow as hell, you need alot of AGI but lower evasion and you need to keep up the shadow while tank fast hitting mobs, the proc of parrying and skill up during recast shadow while mob hitting is higher. Parrying not hard to go from 1-225(PLD) but from 225-269(NIN) cap is a long journey.
When my redmage friend not busy, I always asked him to come with me to Den of Rancor and help me skill up on those tough mandies. The average of getting .3 at 250 is 1-2hours if lucky or 2-3 hours just for .2 or even nothing for hours. I'm only 6 lvl away from cap but would probably take at least another 4-5 months.
As for the weapon about 2 handed or 1 handed weapon, I don't think it's really matter. The proc rate does increase but skill up rate not changing. At 263 parrying, easy prey mobs -> even match mobs; I parrying alot but not as much as pld shield. I can't wait until it's actually cap and put some merits into it, wonder how much it will active compare to current activation rate.
