Slipknot bassist Paul Gray found dead in Iowa hotel

Sorry to hear that Slipknot lost their bassist due to death.

You can count me as one of the haters out there for Slipknot. I was living in Des Moines in '98-'99 about the time their first album was released. A co-worker begged me to go see them as they were "the thing" in Des Moines. So, one night I went to see them with her. After the show, I told her never to ask me to a concert again. I thought they were nothing but a bunch of GWAR wananbes and the rest of the night she was doing her best to defend them saying how well she knew them and how she was going to be listed in the "thank yous" on the first CD.

I laughed at her when the CD came out and she wasn't listed.

Did get to meet Corey Taylor a couple of times though. Sadly, he was stinking drunk both times.

Still, RIP Paul Gray.

Wow sad to hear that =/ I like Slipknot ):

This is sad. Slipknot is quite awesome. Hopefully they bounce back from this tragedy.

Sorry to hear about the drummer, but from what I understand this guy's had many problems with drugs in the past...go figure on that one.

In regards to whether or not Slipknot sucks; I like them, I like their style but not their theatrics (referencing GWAR is a good start, but we know GWAR copied/built on KISS's theatrics themselves). I just wish Corey Taylor would make his mind up whether or not he wants to be a rocker or an easy listening singer.

Don't insult GWAR like that. They're actually funny and good. My former guitar teacher opened some shows for GWAR when they toured places in northern Illinois. He only had good things to say about them, and how normal looking they are when not in their stage gear.

With that said. RIP early death is never a good thing.

Heh. No insult intended. LOL.

Metal is not my preferred genre of music and I've never cared for bands that went "over the top" in their shows. Bands like GWAR, Slipknot, early Mudvayne, etc just never did it for me. I know there are some talented musicians in there, but don't let your gimmicks overshadow what you can do.

I did meet Oderus Urungus, Balsac and Slymenstra before a show. My brother said to me "They're preppies!" due to them wearing Izod shirts and such. Before the show, Oderus looked me and said "You DARE speak to me without first grovelling on your hands and knees and then ritualistically disemboweling yourself?" I chuckled, but I knew he said that others.

I read earlier today that the autopsy on Gray did not show anything conclusive that caused his death. This has me concerned. The article also said that he was staying in the hotel room because he "wanted some time alone." I'm wondering it will turn out to be an overdose. I hope it's not the case.
