After all has been said and done (almost) for 2006, I've observed the following things:

3 major sets of bannings.

No Christmas gil sale (that I know of).

This time last year, gil was flooding into the economy. Not only did the xmas gil sale flood the coffers of IGE, it also shot inflation through the roof. This caused the weak of fortitude to buy even more gil to afford more-and-more expensive gear thus perpetuating the cycle. This year, it appears the exact opposite has happened.

Do you think SE has successfully made this game less profitable for gilsellers? If so, do you think they have the chance of driving them out completely?

To be honest, the deflation has hurt me badly. A few weeks' worth of work that used to net me enough for 2-3 dynamis runs now barely pays for one. But, I'd much rather work harder in a fair game than have it easy in an economy supported by cheaters.

I will be a very happy gamer when IGE and their ilk finally have to say 'FFXI is too unprofitable for us, we're going to be moving on to other MMOs.'

Wasn't that gil duping thing in effect last year as well? I think a big reason they didn't have a sale was because they didn't have billions of gil to offer at low prices; whether it was due to SE's fixing the gil duping or due to the huge losses due to the bannings I couldn't say but that seems to be a plausible reason why it didn't happen.

I dont know the only thing that really affect me is NPC stuff. Like you said dynamis runs are the same price no matter how much 1 gil is worth so for those people it sucks. I mean as AH prices raise, prices on other stuff raises so its still the same amount of work just the amount of 0's is about the only thing that changes.

I do think SE took a good step in the right direction. There are less RMT running around in the endgame scene. More and more people are getting end game goals accomplished which is what that part of the game is about. The deflation in AH prices is helping the newer players who's only income is quests to get new gear. In general I guess SE finally realized that the game will not survive much longer if they dont do something to show the customers they care about the game.

That was a significant part of it, no question, but there had been a similar if less pronounced spike the year before. Lately, SE has been making life difficult for the RMT, whether the average person sees it or not. Note the steadily rising price of gil on the market, the shortages in supply, etc.

Now they just need find a way put some that gil back into the system. Vana'dail lottery {can I have it}... Or maybe some nice gil giveaway after the destroy these gil seller accounts... Or maybe once they finally bring out chobo racing they can make it bedding like... raise amount gil droped off beastmen...

Hey a Cat can dream:wink:
