Smoking wha????

Is rape still morally and ethically wrong? Because the old movie "The Generals Daughter" was hot.

Yar. So has CO. Can't smoke on the fucking sidewalk here anymore, gotta do it on your own private property. Not that I smoke cigarets, but I think it's the stupidest fucking thing ever, can't believe it passed. No one's gonna enforce it that heavily.

Thats actually the best law they ever made. Alot of people quit smoking because of these laws.

-less fuckin cig butts on the ground
-less assholes blowing smoke thats gotta drift in my air
-less losers at work taking cig breaks every 15 mins
-less people I gotta listen to coughin thier guts out like the knuckleheads that they are
-less stank ass hoes with cig breath
-I don't have to wipe the insides of my car windows more than the outsides because some fucker can't wait to light up
-my car smells better
-less people borrowing money, and bummin a cig
-did i mention less cig butts all over the place?

Even when I smoked I hated all that shit, now theres just less of it, which is good.

Good points, but the bottom line is most people that smoke enjoy it, and it is an annoyance to us to not be able to smoke in public places. Its not a drug, nor is it illegal, so why enforce this?

What about the drug that leads to rape, murder, automobile accidents, and poor decision making? Oh yea, thats called alcohol, and you cant go five miles without finding a place that serves it. I call bullshit.

Ninja: Typo that made the sentence not make any sense...

The thing is, your smoking in public areas is an annoyance to everyone that doesn't. I can't stand smoking personally, I get sick if I'm around a group of smokers for too long. Just walking by someone with a lit cigarette hanging out of their mouth usually makes me cough.

I wish they'd pass something like that where I live (the Colorado law).

The movie thing's a little over the top though. Maybe PG-13, but not R.

I don't smoke, tried it when I was 12 once and it made me sick so I got kinda scared of it. Anyways, I don't smoke, but I don't mind people that do, my brother and most of our friends smoke, I don't think it stinks and it doesn't make me cough. It's not gonna give me health problems just standing next to someone outdoors who's smoking. I think we need more resrtictions on alcohol and not cigarets (or pot, vote YES on amendment 44 if you live here in CO this month!).

It is a drug, drug is called Nicotine.

Second hand smoke used to be one of the leading causes of cancer, thats one good reason.

Being a former smoker I know first hand good reasons to enforce this. This law simply is a start at making it harder to be a smoker, and hopefully give smokers more reasons to quit, which for some people is next to impossible.

-To save you (smokers) money
-To save your lives
-So you arn't the grouchy bitches that you turn into in the mornings before your cig
-So you have less stomach problems like acid reflux and ulcers
-So I don't have to watch you die of lung cancer
-So when I'm an old man I have the same old friends I did when I was young
-So you don't influence some young relative or friend of mine that thinks your cool to start smoking
-1 less cherry to fall in your lap when you fall asleep with the cig in hand
-Women's hands will smell nice again escpecially the two that hold the cig
-so more women have nice teeth
-It may be an annoyance to you (1 person) to have to go in a private place to smoke, but it is an annoyance to everyone else when you smoke next to them.

I tend to side with you in that I also believe the law to be unfair, in a sense.

But it is for the better. IMO

And for those that think Alcohol is worse than cigs, here from the AMerican Cancer society. estimated 40,000 deaths a year from non-smoking people.

I do think they need stricter laws on R movies. PG-13's are just as bad or worse then some R's. Which isn't good imo none the less I think that's a bit exsentric.

People bitch to much (on both sides i might add)... you dont choke or have a problem from second hand smoke unless your right next to that person, if your just passing by you wont get hardly any second hand smoke, and you wont smell bad either passing by...

If YOU make the choice to stand next to a smoker, then YOU canleave, after all, it is just a choice. You can speak to someone 5 feet further away and not have to worry about smoke. I garuntee more people will get mad if the law passes then if the laws doesnt. Infringing on peoples rights to smoke is terrible, because almost FORCING someone to stop smoking is far worse than FORCING someone to move FIVE FUCKING FEET.

my point is made, rebute it :D

ninjar edit: keyboard > me

ninjar edit dos: About the cancer link, although smoking kills more SMOKERs a year than alcohol kills alcoholics, Alcohol kills more innocent people a year than smoking does.

40,000 smoking related deaths...
100,000 alochol related deaths...

smoking is worse my ass

Its funny how smokers will try and fool them selves into beliveing anything just to say its ok for them to continue smoking. You just pulled a bunch of bull shit outta your ass.

The 40,000 was people who die indirectly from tobbaco, they don't use tobbaco they die from second-hand-smoke. These guys don't even use tobbaco, they get it blown in their faces.

People who die directly every year from tobbaco, 440,000 deaths per year.

Quoted from the CDC website.
"The adverse health effects from cigarette smoking account for 440,000 deaths, or nearly 1 of every 5 deaths, each year in the United States.1,2 More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.1,3"

http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/factsheets/HealthEffectsofCigaretteSmoking_Factsheet.htm

Got that? COMBINED

And I do choke when someone is smoking very far away from me blowing smoke. You don't choke because you smoke.

And like I said, while I do believe that it is UNFAIR, I think its for the better. And if you can't see why by now, your in denial.

I'm glad for the CO smoking law. To anyone who argues how good it is, I'd hafto say it's around for the same reason the "public drinkeness law" is...

Though I think making anything with smoking rated R is pure stupidity. Nearly half the cartoons shown on TV have had a character smoke, unless it's some badly watered down thing that was grabbed by 4kids to be aired on the WB network (i.e. Zoro and his...lollipop)

Hasn't it already been proven enough that hiding these things from kids is what makes em so taboo in the first place, and if anything would just do more harm in the long run?

But then, sad to say, most people also just don't seem to care whats games and movies are rated nowadays ANYWAYS...

I think that first line is bullshit. I think that's their estamation based on the number of lung-related deaths, they can't back their shit up if you confront em on it.

And about the second statement, grow up and quit bein such a pussy about a little smoke you whiney Rob Reiner wanna-be. I've never choked being around cigaret smoke, even in a room full of it, with the windows closed. And the only cigaret I've ever had is 1/4 of one when I was 12. Watch more South Park.

Comparing Cigarettes to Alcohol.. laff. I don't think people realize exactly how restricted alcohol is compared to cigarettes.

You can smoke outside. You can't drink outside(even on your own property.)
You can smoke in your car. You can't drink in your car.
You can go about your daily business after smoking a pack of cigarettes. You can't go about your daily business after getting sloshed off your ass.
The list goes on.

Boo hoo, poor little cigarette addicts can't smoke in public places, so they try to pass it off like it's harder to smoke than it is to drink.
emot-psyduck.gif

Cry more.

Sure, the Cigarettes you personally smoke might not stink that bad. But there are some rank ass smokes in the world, like Pall Mall and Camel. You can smell those two several yards away. Hell, you can smell people who smoke either of those two several yards away without one lit up.

Trust me on this one as someone whos worked in several stores selling both products, that Cigarette smokers are a lot worse than alcohol drinkers in both appearance and personality.

This more sound like a political stance then anything else. Some party tring to get some positive spin before elections. This bill will never become a law.
As for the bar smoking law they have that down here in florida. I must say it much more enjoyable going to a restaurant and not having to smell someone elses smoke. My ohio friend hate it because he one them people that get stressed and irritated when he dont have a cigarette. I agree with the post above about smoker being normally worst then drink.(even though 9times out of 10 they go hand and hand. The laws as they are now are pretty fair, but I do see the cig tax going up agian just for the fact they know people will pay it and it is a preventive action.

You'd be suprised. (More)

There is a chance this may get passed. There was a huge debate on videogame violence when Mortal Kombat first came out, and violence in videogames in the US was nearly outlawed. There was also a huge war when "My Neighbor Totoro" was released in the US due to OMFG CHILD NUDITY, in which people wanted any cartoons/anime showing such things being unallowed in the US. (Hell, Tweety was originally featherless in his first cartoons, and that got banned from TV due to complaints of "nudity".)

As moronic as some laws sound, it's not at all impossible that some of these laws don't go into effect...we're just lucky that most don't.

*edit* ...There's no age of consent in Japan?
